are we seriously doing this to punch-out too

wasn't star fox enough...

Expecting anything Punchout-related is probably setting yourself up for disappointment.

But you gotta admit, there is some smoke.

Edit: oops just caught up with the thread and realizing I might have misread your post lol

I mean you can update Punch Out without removing the arcade style gameplay; you'd just have to give serious thought to campaign length and options and difficulty modes; free updates to add content and keep people coming back; and especially I think you'd need to figure out good local and online multiplayer options.

Same logic goes for Star Fox. It can be a rail shooter in the 2020s, but you still need to think about what the entire package offers because odds are Nintendo ask 'full price' for these games.

I feel the same way tbh, he's just too iconic

He’s too iconic. I don’t think anyone has any issue with him. From the topic of black representation he always gets brought up for Nintendo. Him and Mac are forever tied together.

I actually came up with a concept for a new Punch-Out not too long ago

Oh boy, it's time to revive this thread! It sure aged like milk, huh?

The first party development thread is talking about Next Level Games, and to me Next Level Games means Punch-Out!!. Last week I workshopped an idea on Discord that I've become very attached to, more so even than my massive Wii Sports revival featured in this thread's OP. Unlike that proposal, I'll start with the title:

Punch-Out!! Generations

Take a moment to guess what the idea might be. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Have you taken a stab at it? Well, here it is:

The game would have three campaigns: one as Doc Louis, one as Little Mac, and one as his new protege. The timing works out shockingly well, per the Punch-Out!! fan wiki:

The Doc Louis career would take place between 1952 and 1956, the Little Mac career 1987 and 1991, and the new career in close to present day (2022 to 2026, I suppose).

The appeal of this approach is that it would expand on the title defense mode in Wii: young opponents that faced Doc grow and change before Mac faces them, and the same of young opponents of Mac. Their strategies, styles, and attack patterns could all change, creating a lot of meaningful content relatively efficiently.

Representing the different eras of boxing would also provide a lot of stylistic potential that I don't think I need to describe in depth. Just think of the music!

I hope my fellow fans of the series appreciate this idea. I'd love to know what you all think!

And, of course, there's always utility to an ideas thread on the front page. I hope you share yours.

I think that if they announce any new NLG game will not be a game they have made previously, other than Strikers/Luigi Mansion none of their other Nintendo games sold well and Punch-out on the Wii made sense because motion controls, nowadays is harder to justify the style of game. Luigi Mansion 4 is too early imo for it's release
I think NGL new game Will be released in 2024, there Is no need at all to rush it. I Hope It's a new IP

The truth is that Star Fox could evolve into Nintendo's space opera. I am thinking something along the lines of Mass Effect with on-rails shooting segments included. But that's never going to happen.

Also i actually think that if N is hoping for Prime 4 is normal to keep Prime 2 & 3 to launch in betwen a possible Prime 5

Beacise let's face it, if Prime 4 is critically acclaimed and succesful enough Retro for the next like generation is on Metroid Prime

Nintendo need to talk about :

- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC

- Mario Strikers future updates

- Mario and Rabbids

- Advance Wars release date

- Bayonetta 3

- more Splatoon 3 new info

- possible new announcements

They need a big fat Direct

I mean no disrespect to Mario Strikers and Punch-Out but those games are pretty small in scope, it's totally reasonable to expect them to be developed together
When Strikers was announced i thought it would be much ''bigger budget'', as in a vast improvement from the camelot games. Now that they released... idk if im glad or sad that they arent lol.

Dont mention that, Miyamoto and Dardan Sandiego might appear in the dark in your room this night

I like this idea, especially for the variety it would allow. It would also be interesting if, the first time you do the story (or perhaps each time you move through the campaign on different difficulties), there's some narrative to it to string it together and to give it more impact. If you're making memorable characters, give them a chance to shine.

I wish you the best future possible, switchum!

Losing your dog is not a silly feeling and you are certainly not a loser for feeling lost in the aftermath. It’s devastating and sobering and something my wife and I have been dreading since we first rescued and fell in love with our little girl almost 3 years ago. I wish you safe passage through the loss. Your little friend lived a wonderful life because it had you, no matter how long.
Thank you so much. Your words are very kind and they mean more than you know ❤️

I know downtimes/maintenance usually don't point to anything but..

Why is the MyNintendo Store going to be down for TWO DAYS? Is it for the XC3 Special Edition pre-orders? Is Nintendo planning to open pre-orders for a lot of games at once? New Hardware??

I don't want to snort/inhale too much copium but

I genuinely can't imagine it being anything other than a Direct at this point. There's too much smoke

I really do think people need to realize that Star Fox was never really even meant to be purely a "rail-shooter", SF1 and SF64 were only even that purely because of technical limitations. Dylan Cuthbert has said this many times.

Star Fox 2 is literally living, breathing proof that the series was never going to stay on-rails for too long. There's literally no traditional rail-shooting in that game, just all ranged mode and third person shooting with the Walkers. Star Fox, if anything, was always meant to be a vehicular combat arcade shooter, not necessarily just a rail-shooter.

For the record, that means I do think turning SF into "furry mass effect" is a stupid idea. I just wish people had more imagination and realize there's still a lot more one can do with a "arcade shooter" outside of just "uh just make Star Fox 64 with new levels", I think Star Fox 2 is a perfect example of that. There's lots of things one could properly build upon from SF1, SF2, SF64 and even the "lesser" installments like Assault, Command and Zero.

For example; multiple different playable ships and characters, selecting a different leader character and three wingmen for different missions with those wingmen having different specific abilities that come into play in those missions, more weapons besides lasers and smart bombs, earning currency from combat and using to buy ship upgrades and items, Wing Commander-style hub worlds, more complex level designs kinda like the Zoness revisit from Zero that aren't really on-rails but are still linear in nature with different areas to explore with branching paths, third person shooter stages with the Walkers or even the pilots jumping out on-foot and switching between vehicles like in Assault (but actually good), etc

It stands to reason that "normal" direct airing time would be 6pm ET at this time of year, right? Or is it 5pm?

But in all seriousness. Before it gets too crazy in here over the weekend and next week and my posts just get lost in the mess, I want to sincerely thank you all.

This month has been a crazy wait. I lost my job and my dog in May, and my efforts to find new consistent work has been unsuccessful thus far.

So I don’t have much to look forward to at this point in my life, except this Direct. So I’ve been super active on Fami, interacting with you all and making new friends.

You’ve all been so welcoming and kind. So many smiles have genuinely been brought to my face reading your posts, responses to my post, Yeah!s, and DMs. I feel like I finally have a place within this community, which has never happened to me anywhere on the Internet before.

I know this post probably makes me come across like a complete loser, but I had to get it off my chest. You’ve all been so wonderful, and I’m having more fun with this Direct hype season than any before it because of you.

Thanks for sharing in this excitement with me, and for being so welcoming.

Now let’s hold on tight, grab onto the handles, and feel this rollercoaster’s DROP. 🎢
I wish you all the best!! I lost quite a lot of pets last year, and each time stung so much. You're not a loser, and you don't come across like one! We welcome you and I invite you to continue hyping with us, whereever it takes us!

There you go, Three Hopes tweet.

Endgame begins on Monday.

Also 💀

Unfortunately. I think Mario Strikers is finished lol.

There’s only new characters and stages to add. But stages are just cosmetic and the characters are just stats, their skill set is the same as everyone else. Don’t think they’ll add new modes or anything. Mario strikers never really had that.

Maybe add a classic mode to play like the original games or something.

Star Fox should try the multiple genre ruote starting woth another spin to Adventure games or a RPG in space with ship battles
Yeah, that second option is what Star Fox Adventures should have been, instead of a not-very-inspired copy of The Legend of Zelda.
