I don't know if I can see GC NSO ever happening, despite the emulator existing and there being testing done for it. Think for first-party platforms it'll just be simple: Nintendo's first three consoles and first three handhelds; NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBA, DS. After Mega Drive (+ Mega CD games eventually) and PC Engine i'm not sure what to expect from third-party platforms but i'm hopeful for a fun surprise. M2 couldn't get Saturn working properly on the cheap hardware of a mini system, but on a full console...

It wouldn't be bad, that's why they gave Link's Awakening the full remake it deserved.
GCN for NSO won't be anything we see this generation. If NSO is a thing in the next-generation of Nintendo hardware, then we may see them introduce the platform on that.

GameCube games should be remasters in my opinion. Just better to bring them up to HD/widescreen. Nintendo can sell for more (not that I want this), so makes sense for them. If those were on NSO, we might get too few to be worth it with third party remakes or collections and the aforementioned first party remakes. Plus file size would get bloated over time I think.

Yeah GCN on NSO never made much sense IMO. The two biggest selling points (Zelda and Metroid) are getting HD remasters instead.

I really really really hope the current NSO offerings move over day 1 to the next system. Seems like a no brainer, but this is Nintendo we are talking about.

GameCube titles would obviously be an awesome addition to NSO, but my number one wish is still GB, GBC, and GBA. Maybe because they are much more likely to happen.

Nintendo is only getting me to upgrade my signature once they offer good collections for those systems.

The first letter of Byleth and Corrin's names are next to each other on the alphabet.
Robin and Shez are the same.

Clearly, this means that the next avatar's default name will start with either a J or L to correspond with Kiran's name /s
J-Lo is the star of the new fire emblem confirmed LEAKED HERE FIRST

i'm going to have to boycott it out of respect for mariah, tho

GC is a long-term thing, only way it's never added is if you think Nintendo will stop supporting NSO 'Virtual Console'
I'm of the mind that Nintendo are content with remasters for GC, Wii and 3DS titles; at least for the foreseeable future. Emulation for all three platforms is technically feasible; they have absolutely internally experimented with them; but I think it comes down to those games simply being too high in value for a service like NSO, from Nintendo's perspective. If they were to happen perhaps they would be offered the way Sony are now handling their classic games; individual apps per game, titles available for purchase outside of the sub (like the DLC now being added to the sub). Not impossible, I just don't see it as particularly likely right now.

Nintendo are already thinking about the long-term future of NSO; they were from the start. The whole purpose of the slow dripfeed schedule is to ensure they still have games to release on the service years from now (and that likely includes moving onto the next hardware; they won't restart this time). A lot of games are tested and ready to be released, they're still testing more fairly recently too. Here's a fun tidbit about the NES app specifically; every SP version released so far was prepared in 2018, before the service even launched. That includes the two anniversary Fire Emblem SP versions released in April 2020 and the Mario 3 SP version released in July 2021; and they are sitting on many more for future updates.

We're nearly four years in with only four platforms available, and the Game Boy family is still absent (but obviously on the way). This service will be drawn out for a long time.

That is less than Astral Chain, a new IP that has got a much smaller push than Bayo 3 by Nintendo. 2M LTD is the floor for Bayo 3
I think this is optimistic. Let's get back to Bayo 1 numbers before talking about 2+ million.

Any particular reason you aren't specifying Nintendo as the international publisher for Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes like you have Live A Live?

Because I forgot KT publish the Nintendo Warriors titles in Japan. Shameful of me, really.
It is a KT game with Nintendo licensed IPs like Mario+Rabbids (Ubi game with Nintendo license), the difference is that in Warriors case Nintendo publishes outside of Japan and M+R Nintendo only publishes it in Japan (and Korea). Of course it still counts as Nintendo published title tho

We also know from a hiring call that Vanpool is working on a remake using Bezel Engine. Probably something Kirby-related.

Nitpicking, but I think you should separate Nintendo-produced games from games published by Nintendo (Live-a-Live, Mario Rabbids, FE Warriors).

I specify where Nintendo are publishing (as in, location), so I don't see the point in separating them. I hadn't heard about Vanpool, so it's nice to know they're up to something.

Nintendo held a corporate briefing in late 2020 discussing their future outlook, and they were pretty clear in laying a foundation with the current account system and the services linked to Nintendo accounts. This has me pretty confident that there will be no 'reset' and that most if not all titles including eShop purchases and NSO games will continue to transfer to future hardware, at least for the next generation. Only having one console to support just increases this expectation.

I'm kind of surprised you wrote "if" NSO is a thing in the next-generation. To me it seems like Nintendo is building all of this for the long term. I mean, why put forth all of these resources to develop games, emulators, and build these retro game catalogs (at a glacial pace) only to dump it and start over with the next-generation? It doesn't make since at all, especially since Nintendo has emphasized to investors the importance of the Nintendo Account and how it will be key in retaining users and bringing them forward to new consoles.

I think there is a 100% chance that the next-generation Nintendo hardware:
A) Is fully BC with Switch games, and
B) Is fully compatible with NSO retro consoles and games

It's Nintendo. It's best to never assume anything with them.

No chance. Hasn't the director implied that the game is already good to go, he's just waiting on Nintendo?
Not the director, producer, but that's the jist of Kamiya's recent Twitter thread. He's asking people who haven't played Bayo 1+2 to do it now so they aren't burnt out when Bayo 3 launches. He mentions that Nintendo get to decide the release date and he can't say anything about it himself, but adds that if you trust the 2022 date in the PV from September last year you should play the previous two soon.

Not very subtle if you ask me, lol.

Are we sure Retro is doing the Prime “remaster”???
Very sure.

The person who works at Retro and said they worked on an Exploratory project, secret project and Metroid Prime 4 makes so much more sense now. I thought the secret project was also canceled until it came out Retro was doing the remaster.

-Exploratory project—-> New IP then turned into a new IP, but failed
-Secret Project—-> Metroid Prime Remaster
-Metroid Prime 4

I speculate that the Nintendo Direct will include a video game

In all seriousness, I wonder what surprises we could get? If the only two games announced that are unknowns to the general public are Everybody's 1-2 Switch and Fire Emblem, I'm sure it would be a tough pill to swallow for people who follow all the leaks and such lol, especially since 1-2 Switch's leak is all about how subpar it's been received. But, that's the nature of following this stuff closely. For me, I'll be delighted to get new Fire Emblem if that shows up soon

At this point the thing Nintendo really has up their sleeves that people want (other than fire emblem news/confirmation) is info on stuff like Zelda, or hell, even Splatoon 3. I think to me, Splatoon is Splatoon, and I'll be happy to have a new iteration, but many others want to see what the new hook will be, or if there will even be one.

Mario Rabbids 2, Bayo 3 are both games that could have a strong feature in the direct since we know very little about them.

Then there's that Donkey Kong rumor... I dunno, when's the last time a notable info dump has come out for that? I'll be really interested to see what that's like, if it's real

would have been so cool to experience Retro's Musical RPG but Nintendo decided to cancel the game... the same Nintendo that green-lighted 1-2 Switch sequel smh

I don’t get the complaints of a new Fire Emblem and complaining you wanted another franchise instead. IS doesn’t make Donkey Kong. They don’t make Pikmin. Why is this ALWAYS brought up when you don’t like a franchise is getting another game. This studio doesn’t work on the franchises that you want.

I feel at this rate I'm gonna have to wait for Project Dolphin to succeed with 100% emulation for Gamecube titles before Nintendo starts taking it seriously.

I'll still buy Pikmin 1 and 2 HD if they ever move their asses, but I might as well replay them with widescreen hacks nowif they're taking their sweet time on Pikmin 4.

Not to mention Custom Robo, Chibi Robo, Paper Mario TTYD and Starfox Adventures will be stuck in purgatory forever without NSO supporting GC 🙃

Monolith Soft is Nintendo's biggest studio (outside of Nintendo EPD ofc) so people expect them to do more than just Xenoblade+support for EPD. I don't see them making an ARPG but I do think we will get something non-Xenoblade from them (even if is a smaller title between Xenoblade or Zelda releases)
Yeah but they’re also the only ones that are making actual gargantuan games besides the Zelda team (that not coincidentally are getting MSI extensive assistance), so it makes sense in the end.

Anyway Production Unit 1 is big enough to make a major project (XC3) and a smaller one (XCDE) simultaneously, and Takahashi said he wants to make a smaller game if he has the opportunity… given the ambitious projects he likes to do it’s obvious he’ll need a big team for just one game.

Unit 2 is helping with Zelda but who knows if they’re also making a smaller game (maybe Honne is planning something behind this unit), and until further notice, Kyoto studio is only doing support for other games.

In any case, if the fabled “action game” existed at some point (I have my reservations), it’s been cancelled long ago or on indefinite hold, because after almost five years we should had know something about it. And no, I don’t think it’s because the misinterpreted “Nintendo only want Xenoblade” quote because Monolith wouldn’t hire for a pitch project that they don’t know if Nintendo will greenlight.
