This is expected to be Baten Kaitos remasters/remakes as Namco registered trademarks of the games a while ago. They're coming.

as much as i'd like to see that I don't think i'd really call either of the Baten Kaitos games a "3d action game"

I guess Origins is fast paced enough that it would fit if you really wanted to force it but it still seems like a weird way to describe it to me

edit: also looking at that article it says "HD remastering of 3D backgrounds" and the Baten Kaitos games have 2D backgrounds

i'd love to be wrong on this and the trademark thing a while back was interesting but I just don't see it with that article

While the images are pretty convincing, my BS detectors are going off here due to the timing. These images are supposedly from an early build and so presumably were taken a while ago, yet they don’t get “leaked” until the day after a more credible leak comes out and describes much of what is pictured. This reeks of someone quickly mocking up some blury images based on Emily’s descriptions.

I call fake.
Would somebody really be able to create a leak like this in such short time after Emily's info, though? The super short turnaround makes it more likely to be real, imo.

As someone who is really fan of TP aesthetics I had mixed feelings about the Tantalus port.

I would only triple dip it if they went with the same Wind Waker HD treatment.
Out of curiosity, what's wrong with Twilight Princess HD? Did they change the artstyle or something?

I've never been so conflicted on a leak before. How can something look so real and so fake at the same time?
If I had to pick, I think it's probably real, and the 'fakeness' feel to it is down to being blurry + really old build images. A lot of real leaks that look sort of fake have that feel, IMO. But I'm still a little conflicted, too

If it's fake it's the most impressive fake ever. I don't think it's been a full 24 hours since Emily's leak and this adds up 1:1 with everything she's said so far.
True and iirc the leaker said they decided to leak this because of the discussion yesterday.

I can say from experience that it does not take long at all to rip some 3D models and modify them even quite extensively.

Like, it could be done in under an hour for someone with some experience.

That said I'm leaning towards this being real.

do I need to break it down for you? some of the white pixels are apart of shoulders. some of the other white shit might just be jaggy pixels considering the switch is majorly underpowered

No, I'm confused why you're being so rude to me.

Folks, this is hundred percent real.

Not only does this look like a completely convincing early build, he wasn't even upfront about the fact that this is an early build. No fake leaker would ever do that; they would mention "this is from an early build btw" every second sentence from the start.

There is often high quality fan art of new characters / games within 30 minutes of a Nintendo Direct airing. Never doubt the ability of a dedicated and talented person to make something like this in a short time.

Of course one could argue a fake leaker saying these are "early build" is just an excuse to cover for any errors in the images. At the same time I'm more willing to accept any weirdness in the images being a result of then not being the highest quality of an early build of a game that probably is pushing the Switches hardware to it's limits.

I feel like the people who played a ton of SMT5 are making the hair look more similar in their mind then it actually is. As someone who's copy of SMT5 is still in the shame pile it really don't look the same at all outside of the general "long hair".

Also if this is fake I imagine there'll be issues with the Chinese translation once someone fluent is able to look at them.
Is shame pile another name for backlog? I like that better

Yeah, Switch 2 and the Direct are getting annouced tomorrow. They have to or they will both leak.
? Based on what? And Nintendo's not going to change their announcement timing for something, no matter what it is, based on the "chance" that it'll leak

I mean the guy literally said he saw that Emily leaked it and decided to post some images and clarify some stuff

What would they announce first then? Not sure. It would be weird to announce the Direct first, but not the Switch because there has been maintenance that has been happening behind the scenes for the OS, Nintendo Account, and First party games.

I get that, but if I was making a fake leak heavily based on another leak I would probably say the same thing tbh. I don’t think the aforementioned reference to Emily’s leak makes this any more or less likely to be real.

Perfect cover story. I really don’t know but having fun seeing the discussion. Everyone please be nice though (not saying you aren’t @snikdasnek, just a general comment since it’s gotten testy in here).

If the leak was only that one image, then maybe. Just walking through how all this could be fake though

Someone was already working on a fake leak for a new Fire Emblem game, designs several new characters and emulates the "gust" style on a whim. Then they hear the rumor yesterday and panic rush a "sloppy photo shop" of the mc using the smt5 characters hair when they could conceivably just made their own. They had no reason to rush the sloppy photoshop, they could have taken another day or two to iron out the "obvious photo shop" issues.

Sometimes the simplest solutions are just the correct ones, it's a low quality image of an early production build that was used to work on the Chinese translation.

For me any game that sounds remotely interesting even if I don't own it is part of my "backlog". The shame pile is specifically games I bought either at full price or impulsively when it was on sale fully expecting to play right away and it just didn't happen for whatever reason.

This is a good distinction, with one problem:

Under this definition, my shame pile is bigger than what I consider to be my backlog, lol

I don't think there's enough evidence to say any of that for sure. But, assuming that there is a new Switch model, I would assume they'd announce it before a Direct since Nintendo doesn't tend to reveal hardware in a Direct itself. I don't really believe new hardware is getting announced, however

What I meant about leaks is that Nintendo doesn't care, though. Not when it's only two weeks in advance. The new model could leak with crystal-clear images and everyone and their dog who's online might know it's leaked and coming, but Nintendo would still pretend otherwise until their original planned announcement date.

I have some feelings about those screens but I’ll hold off for the reveal because it seems unfair/pointless to analyze or judge

This is where I'm at; my eyes are telling me it's a sloppy shop job of a Nahobino rip and recolor pasted onto an asset from the new game. But it could still absolutely be real despite that.

My backlog is massive because I check sites like romhacking weekly for retro games getting fan translation patches. I've literally never heard of or seen Miho Nakayama's Tokimeki High School for NES until a few days ago when it showed up with an English patch. A collaborative Nintendo Square NES dating sim sounds so interesting I have to check it out for myself.

Imo the retexture work ranges from incredible to "nintendo hire this man" levels. Lakebed temple, for example, looks incredible while hyrule field has some awful grass and repetition patterns. Also expected some illumination update after wwhd and maybe models improvements. Gameplay changes were great imo.

God, please let that disgusting hair be real. I literally know nothing about this character and I already want to troll people with them in Smash like I do with Byleth.

Wonder if the leaks surrounding this game will extend to the rest of the direct, or just be concentrated on Fire Emblem.

I honestly think you’re underestimating how quickly someone could feasibly generate images like these if they were dedicated enough. There are lots of plain backgrounds and relatively simple menus here, it’s not like we have multiple high quality 3D environmental renders or something here.

Also IMO, I don’t think the similarities to the SMT5 protagonist are really relevant in terms of proving this to be fake or real - it’s not like long hair is some unheard of thing that Atlus just recently came up with, and I don’t see any evidence that this is a “simple photoshop” of the Nahabino like others are saying. Yes they look a little similar, but not identical.

Something is going to leak soon. I am actually impressed that only one first party game has leaked. Or maybe it's fake.

I just caught up on the Fire Emblem leaks. My gut was to say fake but seeing so many others thinking it's true has me unsure what to think. The artifacting on the left side of the hair doesn't look too different from the edge artifacts you see commonly in 720p games on Switch.

What sticks out to me more so is that several of the other characters faces in that unit select list look like the exact same face even looking in the exact same direction with the exact same expression and only their hair is swapped out. I know modern anime has a same face problem, but this is on another level.
