Realistically though, what other unannounced projects could Nintendo likely reveal other than the stuff that has been speculated to hell in back? We’ve heard/talked about

  • Metroid Prime HD
  • Zelda HD ports
  • DK
  • Horse game

We already have a lot for the remainder of 2022
But this is Nintendo they always have a curveball to throw. Perhaps we see those curveballs in a September Direct instead?

Who saw Advance Wars remakes coming at E3 2021? Warioware was somewhat unexpected. We just got Switch Sports and Mario Strikers announced in the February direct. There’s always something that can be announced that no one was really speculating on.

F-Zero is at the top of the list for me.

If DK is this holiday then yeah, a Direct is kinda "needed"

Splatoon arguably "needs" one as well, per the above

the other three are Tweet material imho

September would be too late to announce things for the 2022 slate. Maybe we could have a Twitter announcement, but where's the fun in that?

So we are on the pessimism part of the Direct cycle! Means we are closer to the announcement! (But not close enough)

Nintendo should be like "we changed our mind" and launch Splatoon 3 on the same day as Xenoblade 3, and also create a double pack of both games for $100 even.

  • Fire Emblem
  • whatever Grezzo are doing
  • whatever Good-Feel are doing
  • EPD 9 maybe
  • EPD 10 (2D Mario? Pikmin 4?)
  • EPD 8 (3D Mario, 2D game?)
  • whatever random shit Nintendo decided is a good idea

There are always more than 3 or 4 possible announcements, even if we only get 3 or 4 announcements tops. There'll be a lot under wraps we don't know about yet.

I get that saying there's no Direct until September is cynical, but me thinking it wouldn't matter if that was the case is quite the opposite

Isn't whatever Grezzo is working on still pretty far away? They just released Miitopia last year. Do they develop two games at a time?

But I want an excuse to eat popcorn. I'm not breaking my diet plan without a Direct.

He does that everytime... He Hype Up is Shows (SGF, Games, Gamecom Opening Night, TGA) and then he tells to lower expectations? Why?

Because the first news is the one people will actually register, the second one will get ignored but he can point at it when people are disappointed so that he can deflect the negativity.

It's a well known communication tactic.

I've seen a couple people say this and it's such a great idea

June is a little too early for a big Zelda blowout, too early to talk about new hardware (if it's even real), and too early for 2023 in general. Meanwhile, fall already has a lot of games detailed, and the rumored ones seem pretty low-key. Not doing anything until September would be a totally viable marketing strategy

No.

Depending on what they have to show that would be traditionally featured in an E3 Direct I’m inclined to agree. But let’s not forget that there’s also third party stuff (I know you don’t care!)

functionally i don't know how that even works. They are expecting one of their biggest software years for Switch in terms of units sold,. there will be lots of software to show off and H2 games to show.

September directs are usually 3rd party focued and previews of Q1 of the next year anyways. Nothing lines up. There's no COVID stopping them having a direct.
I just think it's a bit uncessary to even posit that.

I could also argue they don't need a September direct at all if they don't bother with a June one, but we both know directs are going to happen. It's just a conversaiton starter i suppose?

You know we still need a Sacrifice for the Direct? 😜

I'd sacrifice BOTW2 for a Direct with Prime HD and a new Fire Emblem... A Direct can't wait until September, but a BOTW2 blowout can

I'm ready for the new Zelda trailer that undelays it to September 2022 and the accompanying announcement of Splatoon 3 delayed to March 2023.

Doesn't matter when they air the direct for me because no matter what I can't watch it live unless they air it on a Friday or Saturday for some weird reason. So therefore the direct will fall on those days I can't watch it. You're welcome. Buuuuut real talk I believe it's on the 16th which is kinda bummer because that probably means no tree house.

The turn around from Link's Awakening to Miitopia was pretty quick, though Miitopia was a port. Grezzo could have something for 2023. I'd be surprised if they have anything for this year.

I get it, I wouldn’t say it’s a great idea though. They have been revealing a lot of info for July games, Live A Live and Xenoblade, and Splatoon can get its own direct. But there is bound to be multiple 3rd party games, and maybe Nintendo games in August and October that would need a reveal before a September direct. Add that with Mario Kart DLC, Strikers DLC, maybe a Xenoblade season pass I’m sure the direct the last week in June will be great 😀

They released Ever Oasis in 2017 and Luigi Mansion 3DS in 2018,of course 3DS games were quicker to make but they don't just develop one game at a time.

You know people have been saying a metroid prime and WW/TP rerelease have been coming for 3 years now and use it to say how the back half is clogged already. Its still literally never happened, and I'm starting to doubt they will happen at all, and if so not this year. I'm just saying to not assume they're coming, as has been the case for the last 3 years.

Also tomorrow we start resetting the clock

What we need is Nintendoverse, a digital world where all Nintendo fans can come together and talk about everything Nintendo with their 3D avatars, of course you can only choose from a selective palette of words from within the chat so that we don't need moderators. Imagine paying someone for that, ha! It'll be Miiverse all over again.

Here everyday you will be presented the latest Nintendo news and for interacting with the community you will be awarded clothes for your avatar and figurines in the form of JPG's of all the Nintendo franchises and you can put these on the market and sell them for actu... DIGITAL currency. We'll call them NFT: Nintendo Fun Tokens, it's all very novel.

I wish people could chill the heck out about a direct announcement

And by people I mean me. I'm people. I need to chill the heck out 😅

Seriously though I see white text on a red background and my brain activates. I should probably stay off the internet for a day or more lmfao

I didn't know that Ubisoft weren't in the logo list or even that there was a logo list; it was just a complete guess. Like I said, it could also easily be an indie; it doesn't necessarily mean there's some huge third-party title waiting to be dropped.

With Ubisoft not doing their own thing and them not being on the list for Geoff's event, then the Direct is the most logical place to see M+R 2.
Ah ok. Yeah, well to be fair it says "more partners to be announced" so maybe at the last minute Ubisoft jumps in.

I dont know if I saw this or was a rumor that Ubisoft will do an event but later in the year, they might want to get things in order first.

So given that as you said the direct makes the most sense.

I feel like we will get probably 1 or 2 games announced and the rest will be info on known titles. That Metroid prime remaster and maybe something more casual for the holidays.

In all seriousness I think FE4 remake is the only thing I'd want to make a great direct. Anything else would be icing cause I love that game and would be so happy to see it have the Echoes treatment musically/visually
