There will be a direct this month, be patient. If Nate tells us when or if he doesn't, that won't change the date of it happening.

Okay so a while back I believed the 14th because I have a medical appointment scheduled that day, but it's in the afternoon and therefore wouldn't really interfere with a Direct, and now the 14th is shown to be Xbox's day. I shoulda known.

But now

My dad has a medical appointment that I'll need to accompany him to.. at 9 in the morning.. on the 16th. šŸ‘€

The other thing that makes me believe DK is happening is EPD. If that franchise was taken internally, I have to imagine that work on it is close to done at this point. EPD hasnā€™t put out much this generation outside of the first year. If theyā€™re stockpiling games itā€™s time to let some of them out.

The nice thing about that franchise is that since Ubisoft is publishing it, I can patiently wait and will get it for $20 rather quickly :)
Yup lol. Def feel better about missing out on that on day 1.

I have the dentist on the 16th. What is funny is that when I made the cleaning appointment back in January, my first thought was "What if this falls under E3?"

Nintendo really lives rent free in my head.

Move over jury duty rule, it's time for medical escort rule to shine!

Ok guys, so we have to decide right now which one of us has the most complicated and unavoidable appointment in the next two weeks, that's the only way for Nintendo to decide the Direct date

Thread's heating up, activity wise. Lots to catch up on!
So if Pikmin 4 does get revealed what would you like to see out of it?
Underwater gameplay. Blue Pikmin and Rock Pikmin can walk underwater, while a new mint-green Pikmin has a tadpole like appearance and can swim-swam around. They're too light to gather things off the floor, so you use the rock and blue Pikmin to pass things to the swim-swammers to get stuff out the water easily. The swim-swammers can also pass things up to pink Pikmin, who hover just above the water.

[edit - we probably had some sort of water gameplay in Pikmin 3 which just demonstrates how much I need to buy and play the DX version on Switch to remind myself of it; but I'd like more sophisticated combinations between different types of Pikmins in terms of environments, puzzles, and hazards]
Emily also thought the next Fire Emblem should have announced or released much sooner.
To be fair, and seeing as there seems to be an appetite for chat and supposition without 'insider talk', Fire Emblem would be 'due' around now anyway. My assumption was that it would be late 2022 or early 2023 based purely on development cycles.
Question, based on Emily's comment - do you think there's a chance that Fire Emblem could get annouced at this June Direct?
To build on the above, Three Houses had its first trailer and proper reveal at E3 2018 with a target launch window of spring 2019 (which it missed). By that precedent, I'm actually fairly certain we see a mainline Fire Emblem title reveal this month.
Switch exclusives?

Could be anything - it might even be referring to indie exclusives which haven't made it into the Direct. Or even Mario + Rabbids...
Probably some 3rd party who didn't want to pay for the Direct spot and opted for poor man's E3 instead
That's no way to talk about Ubisoft!
Question is, what is the most likely non-pokƩmon holiday game out of a new IP, Zelda game or Prime? I have a feeling that Metroid isn't oozing "holiday" really. Maybe Zelda ports, but I'm leaning towards new game we haven't heard of.
Said it before multiple times but I'm really not convinced we get a Zelda port if Breath of the Wild 2 is launching in the first half of 2023. I don't think Nintendo need another huge seller, either; Splatoon and Pokemon are two huge titles. If you stick Metroid Prime, Bayonetta 3, Mario + Rabbids 2, maybe Fire Emblem, and a 1-2 Switch sequel in the September through December period on top of that - plus perhaps something like Dragon Quest - then you've got a diverse line-up that ticks a lot of different boxes.
I think that it's important to note that some of them are slightly niche titles. Remasters tend not to sell quite as well as new titles as well, I believe.

Something like Bayonetta 3 or Advance Wars is really exciting for the people that want those games, and they'll probably all be 1M sellers just because of how popular the Switch is, but they aren't system movers. Even something like DK Tropical Freeze "only" sold around 4M lifetime on Wii U and Switch I believe. They can pack the lineup if they want and they actually might since of those games only Splatoon and Pokemon would be absolutely massive.
Others have said it, but Tropical Freeze on Switch alone is actually approaching the 4 million mark. People really underestimate DK.

I dont get the logic for M+R, Ubisoft and Nintendo's logos are not in their partners list.
I didn't know that Ubisoft weren't in the logo list or even that there was a logo list; it was just a complete guess. Like I said, it could also easily be an indie; it doesn't necessarily mean there's some huge third-party title waiting to be dropped.

With Ubisoft not doing their own thing and them not being on the list for Geoff's event, then the Direct is the most logical place to see M+R 2.

This is hilarious. The Game Awards, for many years, donā€™t be living up to expectations either.

He added: ā€œSo weā€™re doing some good stuff for you, but definitely manage your expectations in terms of the megaton shocks that youā€™re expecting. This is not The Game Awards. Weā€™ve got lots of good stuff to show you but buyer beware of some of the crazy rumors Iā€™m seeing out there in terms of things people expect to get announced.ā€

There's never been a good Geoff show so my expectations are highly managed.

the next direct will be in september. sorry guys.
I've seen a couple people say this and it's such a great idea

June is a little too early for a big Zelda blowout, too early to talk about new hardware (if it's even real), and too early for 2023 in general. Meanwhile, fall already has a lot of games detailed, and the rumored ones seem pretty low-key. Not doing anything until September would be a totally viable marketing strategy

I imagine Sony had a bunch of the third party showings for SoP and is saving their first party stuff for whenever their showcase is, Microsoft isn't gonna show anything at SGF when they have their own show, Nintendo will have their Direct soon (hopefully). It's probably pretty slim pickings. The way his shows usually work for me is they have a bunch of filler and one legitimately good reveal/showing that takes 2 hours to get to for which I'll have it on in the background.

Some of you guys are addicted to cynicism.

It wouldn't. There must be other games planned for the end of the year that weren't announced yet alongside those that still don't have firm release dates, and doing like 1, 2, 3 month marketing cycles for all of them is a terrible idea. As is releasing Twitter trailers for all of them on this season instead of a Direct

Splatoon 3 is a 10m+ seller and with a chance of selling 6m+ on Japan alone, Nintendo wants to show it in another Direct soon and probably announce online playtests during all summer. Splatoon alone 'forces' Nintendo to do a direct this month

This hits "my knee hurts, it's gonna rain soon" levels of sorcery. I love it lol.

Geoff last night: ā€œWow, this world premiere that I get to revealā€¦ā€

Geoff Today: ā€œKeep expectations in check.ā€

I think heā€™s padding himself as much as he can because there was one year (I canā€™t remember which exactly. Maybe 2019? 2020?) but he hyped it up like there was no tomorrow like ā€œGuys, the world isnā€™t going to be the same after tomorrowā€ and then it just kind of happened and it was over. So maybe heā€™s taking learning from that, but I dunno. All I know is I still love rewatching Geoffā€™s Reggie interviews lmao

E3, the show lived off the three pillars being Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. Everyone else like Ubisoft, Square, Konami are secondary. If you donā€™t have the three pillars youā€™re not replicating E3. No one should have those expectations no matter who is running these Walmart brand E3 shows.

Nintendo attended E3 and did the June Directs even when they had few of their own announcements to make for later in the year. E3 2019 didn't have a single first party reveal for later that year. 2018 had one. 2017 didn't have any. Those years all had a focus on Nintendo games for the following year and third parties.

2021 is the only year that Nintendo used June to actually announce the bulk of the second half line up, and that's largely because 2020 had knocked them out of their usual announcement pattern. The release schedule after July is bare enough that Nintendo need to make at least some announcements; and Directs always have third party news too, especially in June.
