So what’s the overall consensus on Bugsnax? Is it actually fun to play or is the focus more on the narrative/twists? Should I wait for a deep discount? I feel like that game got a ton of hype during the PS5 reveal > launch period, but then the conversation got buried away out of sight faster than a Japanese sales thread on Era.
I thought it was ok but not great.
Catching bugsnaxs never gets that interesting imo, I thought the game would come up with more creative ways to catch them as the game went on but it never happened.
The story as well I thought was a bit of a letdown, you can make a good guess what happens like an hour in

Just curious...how often do people dig into the retro libraries on NSO? I feel like they get a lot of discussion and hype but a lot of people don't actually play the old games very much.

I've got something like 35 hours on SNES, 30 on N64, 15 on NES, and I haven't touched the Genesis app yet.
I forget about the games so often. I wish they had a feature where I could put the icon of a NES/SNES game on my home screen as a shortcut. I keep forgetting I can play DKC Trilogy and Earthbound (+Beginnings) despite having started to play them on the Switch.

Same, I have a cross-body bag that's just big enough to hold my some combination of my Switch/iPad/current read, two out of three.
bruh wild that they make body bags in the shape of a cross

I really liked it. The characters end up being way more charming and involved than I was anticipating, and the gameplay is fun (though a bit clunky).

I strongly recommend it, based on all that.

I haven't used NES and SNES much but I've played a lot of Mario Golf in the N64 app.

I’ve got around 50 hours on the SNES app, 20 on the N64 app, less than 10 on the NES app, and I’ve barely touched the Genesis app. I’m playing through Kirby Super Star today, so I’m using it right now actually!

One of my friends has over 200 hours in the N64 app alone, and over 100 hours in the SNES app. He loves Zelda and recently did 100% runs in every Zelda game in those apps.

The retro libraries are a little... too retro for me. Most of my nostalgia is tied up in Gamecube/GBA. Would spend dozens of hours in the app if they added those consoles but that doesn't look like a possibility (at least GameCube) so I have to resort to begging for Wii U ports of the Zelda games, and other rereleases...

So far I have spent ~3 hours on the NES app, 75 hours on the SNES app, 45 on the N64 app, and 3 hours on the Genesis app.

N64 has taken up most of my retro gaming since it launched, and I still have several games I want to play through/relive like the Zeldas, Sin & Punishment, F-Zero and others. I would probably have twice the amount of hours played if I never lent my controller to my brother. I'm sure when it is all said and done, the N64 will be my most played app of the four.

The SNES app finally allowed me to play through Zelda: LttP and Super Metroid for the first time. That and my 3,234th playthrough of Super Mario World, among other games of course. There a few things I want to hit up, like that 100% DKC trilogy run I always talk about. That and I'm hoping out for Super Mario RPG.

I want to get more into the NES and especially the Genesis apps. My backlog just keeps calling to me.

You know what would be a perfect game for these times? Wolfenstein 3. Killing some nazis and mecha-Hitler would be cathartic as hell right about now.

Nope. The starfield discussion reminded of the horse armor dlc debate from oblivion and I found a hilarious meme relating to it
Oh dang, I was thinking about the June album by Japanese Breakfast. πŸ˜…

Oh my goodness, that looks good

Animal Crossing is a successful franchise because it fulfills the millennial fantasy of owning a house with a yard and having friends.
Wolfenstein fulfills the millennial fantasy of fighting Nazis. 🀘

0 hours on NES - I replayed a lot of that stuff on 3DS and Wii
5 hours on SNES - replayed a lot on the SNES Mini literally the month before I got my Switch, but I am tempted by Earthbound on Switch seeing as I only played that once, on Wii U
35 hours on Mega Drive - Gunstar Heroes, Phantasy Star IV, and Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
35 hours on N64 - Star Fox 64, Sin and Punishment, F Zero X, Ocarina of Time

Do you think we will get online play test for Mario Strikers? Probably too late for this.
I'm not counting on it, but some kind of demo seems like it would be good for that type of game. Just let people play one match or something with a set team/field or whatever.

About 200 hours all apps combined. I've replayed most first party games at this point, and am currently replaying Earthbound Beginnings.

Just found out about this.

But this one looks better:

Seriously, I should take some of these outlets off my RSS feed because I just end up wanting every game in existence...

:cautious:

SNES and N64 apps are my most played games this year. I love having quick access to many of the best games ever made.

Man, there are so many Smash-likes now.

Anyone playing Multiversus? Any good? Do people even play the Nickelodeon game still? I feel that one got a ton of hype and then nothing

I wish Nintendo would revive their label and put out more music on vinyl. I 'd love to have like a Nintendo 7" Club where you can subscribe to and every month you get mailed a 7" record with on one side a well-known track from a videogame and on the other side a cover or reinterpetation of the same track by a well-known artist.

Whenever I leave the house I make sure I have both in my bag. Except when I go to work, in that case I just take a book with me.
I used to take books to work too! Back when I still went into the office anyway. Now that I'm working from home I sometimes play my Switch but still mostly read.

5 hours on NES (entirely for Kirby's Adventure)
55 hours on SNES (and I haven't even gotten into LttP or Yoshi's Island yet, those will bump it up)

They're like quick in-between snacks for me. I appreciate them a lot. Although I really want Nintendo to release more on the NES-app. Like the Sunsoft- and Falcom-libraries.

We need a new Kirby's Block Ball.
No.

But also:

This box-art is pretty baller, ngl.

Anyways, done going through my RSS feed.

How are y'all doing this fine afternoon?

Multiversus is pretty promising. Gameplay doesn't have the polish and crunchiness of Smash Ultimate but in a vacuum it's fun enough

I think I’ve got 15-20 hours at most on both NES and SNES. There’s a lot less friction getting into the games than on Wii and save states is a huge boon. Got through most of DKC and Kirby’s Adventure this summer playing primarily during lunch breaks.

I just realized Stranger Things 4, Obi Wan, and the season finale of the Owl House all come out this Friday. You gotta be kidding me. DO Y'ALL THINK I HAVE ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD?!
And Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex 2045 Season 2 dropped today, just to add to things 😫

If we're spared the likes of the Square-Enix "here's 20 minutes of GOTG and then 10 seconds of FF pixel remaster" presentation then this is fine by me
That won’t happen anyways since they kicked Eidos to Embracer earlier this month

The news that Konami is maybe thinking of making new games in the Castlevania series is great and I'm all for new games. But it would be great if Konami would rerelease Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness, preferably as a double pack. I have such fond memories of those games.

Every smash clone feels like some fake game you’d see some kid playing in a movie. There’s just something weird/off with the presentation in basically all of them
