StarTopic Nintendo General Discussion |ST Oct. 2021|

I've recently returned to play Tropical Freeze and, outside of the fact that the first day I thought I was never going to be able to get good scores in the time trials and the day after I was counting all the golden Time Trial coins I was collecting (dat flexing), I fell in love again with that game. It's such a stellar platformer: the mobility, the attention to detail, the coreography...it's all at shockingly high levels. The biggest flaws are the bonus levels being pretty shabby compared to the rest of the game and the boss battles which, while very well-made, can take a lot of time, especially when compared to boss battles in other platform games (at least from my personal experience with the genre). Everything else is platform excellence, to the point I'm having a pretty fun time also completing levels in hard mode. It's tough, but it's still very fun.

Man I've had a very busy and productive day. Made pancakes from scratch, mowed my giant lawn, took my daughter to soccer, and I still managed to get in a good half dozen or so shitposts.

Hope you all enjoy my company here as well. I enjoy your company here. It feels like the Nintendo OT but without the mods breathing in your neck. Haha.

Will we have a sales thread here or in a new place too?

Would’ve been cool to have them both together.

It's a shame, because I really like Age of Calamity, but they've shown nothing so far to get me fully on board with the season pass. Throw in a couple more playable characters, skins, maybe a new map or two on top of what was announced. I don't know, the way it is, it feels a bit half baked to me.

Same (see my avatar). It's a shame that they weren't able to make more original characters or BotW-takes on old ones but alas...

Well it was just more I’m wondering how many people were in that thread, compared to the nearly 300 members we have here now.
Oh yeah, that's a good question. I do remember a lot of people coming out of the woodwork to get the discord invite.

Glad to be here, everyone. Thank you to all the staff that have no doubt worked tirelessly over the past week to bring us this new space to talk about our hobby on!

In the Discord, I did post in the "FamiBoards StarTopic Reservation" thread that I'd wanted to reserve both a general Metroid ST, and one for Dread, specifically, but I have no idea whether those were already planned to be worked on by someone else, or not. I've got plenty of past experience making OTs, so I'd be happy to throw one up, though I can't say it'd be super flashy, on such short notice. 🤣
Hey Aurc, did you get my PM? I was originally intending on making a Metroid General thread for ResetEra that would act as a primer (no pun intended) for people who are completely new to the Metroid series, and I've kinda been working on it since...June? I haven't been able to work on it due to real-life creeping up. I hope you were able to get my link to the Google Docs.

It took me a long time to get into Tropical Freeze. I bought it in the Wii U era and it didn't click, and then I bought it again on Switch and picked it up and dropped it two more times before everything finally clicked for me on attempt number four. Unusual for me, but it clicked eventually so all's well that ends well. Just a plain old fun platformer. Got all the letters and puzzle pieces and secret levels but I was not masochistic enough to put myself through the time trials and new game plus. It's my first foray into the series, and despite the old 'port fatigue' I'm sure plenty of people have with the Switch I've been quietly hoping on the down low that Nintendo pulls a DKC Returns Remaster out of nowhere so I get a shot at that one as well.

Feels good to be back! Not that I posted all that much beforehand but we'll see if that changes.

I hope those lurkers will participate though

More opinions are welcome!
Former lurker hoping to do just that, for what it's worth. The atmosphere here is definitely helping me feel more at ease to contribute.

I want to play and finish Undertale, I already know about the twist but not sure if my first run I should play it like a normal jrpg.

Still have it in my Steam folder. I keep telling myself "one of these days".

It is on Gamepass as well so I might just play it on Xbox.

I am so grateful that 343 made it so your flag doesn't have to be at your base in order for you to score. Really cuts down on these endless CTF matches.

Friends, @Jersh just updated the logo at the top of the site.

Should now be sharper and OLED quality.
good job on fixing the typo (?). it looks like it's cropped a bit at the bottom. maybe that's an issue on my part due to zoom/etc?

Fuck me does this game look fantastic. They even ironed out the performance issues that was happening during the Treehouse gameplay (Makes sense since that was older build).

Exploring in this game is gonna be fantastic just on the movement alone.

Between this and Metroid Dread. What a time to be a Nintendo fan.

Time to lurk again on a new forum! I might try and post more here though. Can't wait for Dread! Only game I really plan to play for the rest of the year, together with maybe Advance Wars reboot.
