That's a micro SD card adapter, sorry.
not to roll deeper into the pedantry of this exercise, but…

it’s just an SD card

not an adapter

god y’all are making me feel ancient today

Ahh, now I see the beveled edge people are talking about. Expanding on it with the replay editor I suppose makes sense, but I dunno, the colour scheme in particular very much feels intentional as a Switch cartridge. Really, only thing that would make a difference is if the console exclusivity contract is longer than six months. I suppose it makes sense to not let hype go insane but it'll be cool if it did make its way to Switch

it’s literally one of these run through Photoshop’s cutout filter

I’m sorry, I stand corrected, it’s most likely the 256 GB version of the card

source: I just ran the Photoshop cutout filter on the card and then the 256 GB version of the card

I know random encounters are generally hated by like literally everyone but are they bad in every single case? Like on a world map?
For me as long as there is a toggle that you can activate with a button press to turn them off I’m fine with them. The most frustrating situation is being forced into battles when you just want to focus on something like solving a puzzle or are just traveling through an area you’ve been through many times for a quest/exploration.

I would say only include random encounters if you're doing something interesting with it. In other words, if removing random encounters doesn't ruin something important in your game I think it's probably better without them

The Batman 2 was announced at CinemaCon, with Reeves returning to write and direct, Pattinson returning to star, and the "entire team" rejoining.
I’m hoping Greig Fraser returns.

Tho it’s funny to see Pattison as a headline when he has been asking for a sequel lol.

I think Indie World is, above all, tied to GDC which is long past. So I just don’t think it’s happening.

There could be a Direct within the next two weeks though. Crazier stuff has happened.

Some people are upset that we haven't got any news for Mario Strikers for 2 months while F-Zero fans didn't get any news in... I don't even want to type that number.
TFW you realize that outside of NSO releases Punch-Out!! has gotten more attention than F-Zero lately

I was at a pub quiz yesterday and one of the questions was "Which popular 90s video game hero's arch-enemy is Dr. Robotnik?"

And the group sitting next to us put down Mega Man.
At least they picked a character who’s nemesis also has a doctorate.

That cat has good taste 😻

This is Miyamoto. Nintendo is doomed. My deepest apologies.
Please understand

I'm not sure how remasters normally work, but wouldn't they just emulate or transfer the original game? If these are actual remasters and not remakes anyway.
It depends. They might just use the Creation engine from Fallout 4/76 and Skyrim Special to remake the games. There was a number of paid mods that had content from the original games they can reuse.

they’re sure as fuck in my game so I don’t think they’re bad!

I wonder what the odds are of getting Kena Bridge of Spirits on Switch someday down the line? Personally I'd love to see it.

We know it's only a timed exclusive, and it feels like something that would be very much at home on the Switch as it calls to mind a lot of classic Nintendo games like Zelda.

It's running on Unreal 4 which is an engine with a strong track record on Switch, and in terms of performance it doesn't seem to be more demanding than a lot of other ports already running on the Switch like Hellblade, Dying Light, Witcher 3, Dragon Quest 11, etc.

Maybe I'm just being foolishly optimistic, but it's something I hope for. :)

If its coming, it will at least mid 2023 when the console exclusive with Sony ends.

It will likely come to a Nintendo console, if its not Switch, lt will be on the next HW.

Totally depends on the game, but I prefer my world maps with no random encounters. 2nd choice, you get a vehicle that gets rid of them.

I'm tired of 80 year old villains getting reused all the time. Give me something fresh, WB. Give some of that creepy Snyder shit. Court of Owls or Batman who Laughs.

They're so much simpler than having enemies spawn and roam a map, yeah. On the other hand, people do seem to hate them.

I guess an option to remove them is a good balance, it lets people who don't want or need to grind have a more pleasant experience, while still letting others who do need to grind have that choice.

Might kinda do a hybrid, where they spawn randomly but far enough away that it feels like they're not popping up out of nowhere.

Johnny vs amber is a very interesting case. I dont know this forum's stance on it but i sure hope that evil woman loses everything.
If anyone on here is AGAINST that they're getting an instant ignore from me. Protect all abuse victims.

I know nothing (I try to stay out of any celebrity gossip/news as I think it is a waste of time) except I saw the video of her snacking and smirking when they replayed all her recorded audio seemed very damning.

Yeah, the nicest balance imo is what they did in World of Final Fantasy (iirc? there's a handful of games that do it but I'm not sure I remember right), where you just have a slider in the menu that goes from "2x encounter rate" to "no encounters", and you can adjust it anytime you want. Makes it easier to farm and it still lets you skip them whenever you're not in the mood (which is especially nice for puzzles or backtracking).

Honestly when it comes to random encounters more games should copy Pokemon, where there’s specific areas where the encounters happen and you have several options for turning off encounters. Of course we also need to consider that random encounters can be fun in Pokemon because the tall grass becomes a gacha machine. I’d imagine that a survival-themed RPG for example could benefit from a random encounters mechanic hiding the monsters the players are about to face. You could also make the encounter rate customizable like in Bravely.

Definitely. That woman should be punished.

actually, you know, I have been thinking about this more

I’m doing mine PokΓ©mon-style (shockingly), so you can fuck around in the tall grass or the water or (off the path in) caves to get more pals.

But I’m considering having either a slider or items that increase / decrease random encounter rates?

The combat I’m building has less complexity but quite a bit more interactivity than PokΓ©mon, and there’s the draw of any random encounter being a chance to catch a weird new guy

and it’s not just creatures β€” sometimes trainers pop out too. all overworld trainers are optional, so you can technically just run amok over the map.

should I have the encounter rate adjustable? is that a good idea?

and do those light twists on random encounters make it more fun?

So... despite not playing for about 2 years, I got an Overwatch 2 Beta invite. I'm gonna go check it out and see if its managed to turn out OK in between all the crap and terrible people at Blizzard. If anyone has any questions related to the Beta I can answer them once it finishes downloading (looks like it'll be done in about 40 minutes?)

I'd think about at least putting in a slider for testing purposes, even if you decide not to let the player use it in the final game implementing it would definitely make testing and balancing a hell of a lot easier, not to mention being able to turn it off when you're trying to rest something else and don't want to be bothered by encounters.

Mario Strikers Battle League isn’t real.

Somehow I’ll be missing 60 bucks plus tax from my bank account on June 10th tho.

But it isn’t real.

Whenever I see "I Put On" I immediately think of that song by Young Jeezy that the Cavaliers used for the intro for the 2008-2009 season.

This is a public service announcement to remind everyone that James Newton Howard co-composed the scores of Batman Beings and Dark Knight. It was not just Zimmer.

I have seen no one give Newton his dues for these 2 films. Even all these popular YouTube film critics who would call out people for not getting credit.

Sorry. Just something I’ve noticed a lot last 2 months. Rant over.

On topic. I bought a few 3DS games. Need To finally get Kid Icarus before it’s too late
