I love Gravity Falls with all my heart, but a lot of the disturbing stuff was just on the surface level. With Avatar The Last Airbender and now The Owl House, it's disturbing on so many levels and it gets worse the more you think about it.uuhhhhh yup
In this episode alone we have...
- The reveal that Belos is a witch hunter trying to commit genocide on the whole Demon Realm. He's tricking everyone into helping him by acting like a prophet.
- Hunter is the latest in a line of clones. Belos killed all of the previous attempts after they failed him. This naturally causes Hunter to have a complete breakdown, after which Belos tries to kill him and Hunter barely survives
- Hunter is modeled after Belos brother/friend. There's easter eggs hidden all over the ending sequence majorly implying that Belos killed him as well (there's a painting of Belos facing down the first Hunter with a knife, then first Hunter lying on the ground with Belos staring into the knife's reflection in anger)
- Belos was manipulating current Hunter into getting ingredients for his next clone replacement
- We get to watch one of Belos' first mass murder attempts using magic. It doesn't fully work and the one of the victims is left on the ground in agony
- Luz unknowingly helped Belos in the past after idolizing his previous identity, leading to him hurting her family in the present and technically setting the series in motion
- The palismen souls Belos has been using as food were still living inside him all this time. Hunter unknowingly helps Belos presumably kill them all for good
