the engorged cash cows, now towering above the earth, scream “LET ME DIE, LET ME DIE” as thousands of nimble hands sew their bodies together in a monument to nostalgia’s profitability and humanity’s peril

the day that two billowing spirals of franchise intertwining is considered “justice” is the day I want off the ride

it’s already happened hasn’t it
Allow me to point you to a franchise called Super Smash Bros and the discourse surrounding it. 😏

If we get Star Wars in this, I want every single Disney/Fox franchise making appearance too:

Alien
Avatar
American Dad (Roger and Klaus included)
Lost (Jack, Hurley and Locke playable)
Boy Meets World (Mr Feeny boss battle)
I was all "eww, eww, eww" until the last one. Now my interest is piqued.

Oh so you've seen the new Space Jam, then

DQ11 is not retro inspired, it's just have an additional mode that allows you to play the game in 16 bit. The game itself is gorgeous gigantic semi open world 3D RPG, it's as modern as it gets.
DQ11S is definitely retro-inspired, hell the majority of complaints when it released were about how retro the experience was. The 16-bit mode you're downplaying was marketed as a major selling point for the game in addition to the new character scenarios and while I agree the 3D world is beautiful it is just as limited as past DQ worlds which is why it translates so well in the 16-bit mode. Then there's the battle system and menus which outside of a few tweaks (HP/MP bars and Skill Board) are just the same as they've been since the series began. There is also that sidequest were you travel to past DQ titles and explore memorable locations from those games. DQXIS is not just retro-inspired, it celebrates its retro heritage in plain view.
I just want Square to consider Switch as a platform for other big budget 3D JRPG's, stuff like Star Ocean or Valkyrie Profile. We might have not got these games but there are other Square series that deserve bigger budgeted sequels and I want them on Switch, like Mana. I don't mind pixel art or 2D-HD dungeon crawlers on Switch but I also don't want majority of the JRPG library on Switch to be like that. There has to be balance between them. Switch is a pretty powerful machine for its size and that power deserves to be used.

That said, I'm very hopeful for the future of Mana and SaGa.
While I sympathize with your want for the 3D JRPGs like the upcoming Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile entries I think it's disrespectful to label titles we are getting like the Team Asano games as insignificant due to their graphics and retro inspirations. Who cares whether a game is 3D or 2D as long as it's good; rather then lament what we don't have I think its important to support those titles we are getting to show SE that there is an audience on the Switch for JRPGs regardless of graphics or budget.

As for your Mana and SaGa aside, while I could see the Mana series expanding on what was in the Trials of Mana remake if you're expecting the SaGa series to go in a big budget 3D direction then I think you may be disappointed. Kawazu and his team are more likely to build off of what they have in SaGa Scarlet Grace then anything else.

Been playing Skyrim for the last couple of days. Haven't touched the game since launch and never played the DLCs either. Anyway, I'm just here to say that the books in this game are so underappreciated. Also, despite being over a decade old, the game still looks amazing (even vanilla). I have no way of seeing the fps on my Mac, but it runs smoothly and looks great. I'm sure it'd look great on Switch in handheld mode too.

No in game brightness slider, but it is fun on the switch.

I will say I will more than likely get Xenoblade chronicles 3 when that releases, I have played tge remaster of the first one and loved it. The second one has been a blast so far.

At least I’m more willing to tackle some longer games in my backlog like bravely default 2 and skyward sword

It's really funny to me that many people today had to point out that KH4 being real is another thing that gives the NVIDIA leak legitimacy.

I think that we're way past the point when you can be doubtful of that list, except for the Nintendo first-party stuff on PC since those were probably there just for testing purposes.

I care. I have played more than enough 2D/pixel JRPG's and I think, as a mainly handheld gamer, I deserve some great 3D JRPG's. I love those immersive, big 3D JRPG's and I want more of them on my only handheld. Looks of the JRPG's matter much to me, I really don't want that 90's feeling in my modern JRPGs. Can't stand nostalgia.

And I do believe SaGa will be a higher budget game. The series have been getting much attention through the remasters unlike Star Ocean and Valkiyre, so a big 3D SaGa shouldn't be out of question. We had a bigger budget Mana game on Switch anyway.
Today sucks for video game news, goddamnit...
Number one rule of the free market economy: Market decides on what's in demand. You can't force it or create an artificial demand, if you do, that market is no longer free.

And that's only if it's a part of a subscription, right? Let us consumers never allow corporations to sell us things that we'll never own.
We don't own Netflix or Hulu or Disney+ shows either. I'm fine with the subscription model as long as there is alternatives.

I saw people blaming Sony for the lack of multiplat jrpgs. Like outside of some SE project, FF, which are time exclusives, if an jrpg does not come to xbox its not sony's fault lol.

Cloud streaming yes. NFT'S hell no.
I'd say no to both. Cloud streaming means we go further away of really owning our games. You're totally dependent on how long companies want to keep the products online, the servers alive etc. With Nintendos closure of the Wii U store but especially the 3DS ehop, you can guess how indiscriminately and random this can go.

So in France the left was at 1% of beating fascism

At 1% of competing with Macron who wants to introduce a "Don't Say Gay" law in France

I know it's not Nintendo related but I seriously wanna kill myself cause my kids will never grow up in a good world now

At least with virtual stores if you have them downloaded (at least in 3ds and Wii U case in other platforms it can be different) they can never remove them from your console , cloud once the company closes servers you are not going to be able to play ever again. I have no issues with Cloud streaming being a thing though just don't want any games to be exclusive to it , it's not a digital game situation where I can understand due to economical reasons that some games can't have physical releases.

What if it's tied to a subscription service? That way you're not technically buying it and it's more like Netflix.

we didn’t grow up in a good world either

all this shit is fucking terrible but giving up now while the people doing awful shit with no weight on their conscience just leaves more of them and fewer of us

I know how awful it is and I’m frequently in a bad place with all of it

and I know saying this doesn’t make it better and may in fact make it worse

but please hang on

I’m sorry

you are not alone in this

Aren't you already a crossover between the concept of suspicion and a personification of the .wav audio file format?
who is this sus.wav, I’m water / physical sound / maybe even conceptually a genre

Sega is probably the second to last company (after Atari) to take seriously when discussing “the future of gaming”
They are as modern as any other Japan publisher imo , what makes you think they are still in the past? Especially when you consider their focus on PC and the effort they have put in online and mobile games. Nowdays I think Sega has lost what made them unique the arcade aspect and it's now just a company more even if they have a couple of great franchises. (I'm talking Sega Japan only , Sega Europe/Atlus are quite independent and different)

As a dude that's lived in Florida all my life, getting snowed on in April is really fucking weird lol. Back at home it's super hot right now. Talk about weather whiplash.

Which anime series should I watch, friends? Needs to be easily available in the United Kingdom of Plague Islands and Clown Cars.

The only anime series I've watched are Neon Genesis Evangelion, Castlevania, and Vinland Saga.

Sneaky edit - a friend in the Real World (omg) has recommended Violet Evergarden.
Cowboy Bebop, hunter x hunter, attack on titan, demon slayer, and this one might be a surprise considering my name but TRIGUN!

No, no, that's fine. Helps the rest of us be aware of what's going on throughout the world. As someone who feels pretty depressed at the state of politics in the US, I can relate. Hopefully, things really can change in France and people there don't lose hope

Cruel King and the great hero is amazing and it floored me with how engaging it has been so far. Great artstyle, music and the battles are fun.

Today sucks for video game news, goddamnit...

They are not the only ones to say that unfortunately.
Can these companies just stop with this type of nonsense. I remember when they though putting cd keys in games was the best thing since slice bread to stop the proliferation of used games.

Baccano is another great 1 season story.

Hats off to Fujimoto’s new one-shot “Goodbye Eri”.

The man is already a powerhouse of the manga industry and one of my favorite authors of all time.
Yes. The man is incredibly talented and now has managed to make a manga that took the world by storm and will do it again with the anime and 2 one-shot masterpieces back to back. Can only immagine what he could do with Chainsaw Man part 2 now that it's moving to Jump+.

+1 to Cowboy Bebop and Baccano. I’d also recommend Madoka Magica, Fullmetal Alchemist, and if you like piano and Chopin, Your Lie in April.

My favorite anime of all time, though, is Wolf’s Rain. I’m not sure it’s accessible, but I highly recommend looking it up if you can.

I’ll recommend in no order:

Madoka Magica (my favorite!)
March Comes In Like A Lion
Yu Yu Hakusho
Hajime No Ippo
Nichijou
Symphogear
Mob Psycho 100
Re:Zero

I'm always thinking of the future, like, on May 1st do I go back to my original Molly McGee avatar or select something new from my folder of avatars? Decisions, decisions...

Time to go back into Dragon Quest VII that i had dropped back on November to play SMTV.

I already had played for like 30h, so should have just 200 more to go.

YuYu Hakusho is the one of the best animes ever with one of the most disappointing final arcs ever. I get that the author was stressed and wanted the series to end but damn. How could you not have Kuwabara involved, at all?

The anime version is still way better than the one in the manga lol. Despite how abrupt it is, I cried like a baby at the final episode.

I honestly liked that arc in the manga. It was really really bold, like, Togashi wanted to end the story on his terms and he did it. No fights, no climax, just letting the characters be themselves and pursue their aspirations, whether that would be hype enough or not. Felt very mature for a shonen manga. He did the same thing with some arcs in HxH later, and it was always good and unique.

Then the anime had to turn that into a regular shonen arc with a tournament and that was the worst of both worlds lol

I think it really is something generational, you had to start play the series as a pre-teen/teen to really enjoy it now. Kinda like Harry Potter if it was made by a decent person and not by Hatsune Miku
Yeah, it's clear from the people I follow on Twitter and see on places like Era that a lot of the love for Kingdom Hearts is the kind of deep, long-lasting love that a typical Harry Potter megafan has. One that's been built up over nearly their entire lifetime.

Like, I don't begrudge it but... damn, does it get a bit obnoxious at times lol. I don't know whether KH love or Final Fantasy VII love is worse in how much it makes me want to just say "YES, I GET IT!"

Ooh never knew the ending was different. I got every volume of Yu Yu Hakusho as a bundle on sale and haven’t read them yet. That makes me more interested in checking it out sooner than later.

Who's optimistic that we'll get rumoured Final Fantasy IX Remake on Switch or the revision?

not me... :(
Sony were pretty clear about PS5 being the house of FF this gen , I don’t expect anything that’s isnt more than a remaster/direct port to make it to the Switch (or Xbox) , only PS5 and a year later PC (Epic ofc).
