Lots of interesting stuff this month. I'll definitely be picking up Gotta Protectors, as I really enjoyed the 3DS one. I also think I might be interested in Super Mega Zero, a game which I knew nothing about until I watched some footage, especially since it has a nice 50% launch discount bringing the price to $4.99.

On the fence about Switch Sports. I enjoyed Wii Sports, but I'm just not sure how much I would really play it.

What are you all looking forward to this month?

I'm not exactly looking forward to it or anything, but Toodee and Topdee stood out from the list as something I actually know about. There was a review on Edge a while back, and I remember finding the game interesting. People seem to like it on Steam, so perhaps I will check it out on Switch.

I really appreciate your work, OP. Even if these threads are not as populated as before, it's extremely nice to have them every month.

About the games, I don't know really. At this point I prefer to be guided by my instinct °_°

For example, I've just picked up Crown Trick for 6€ (70% off), I still check the new sales twice a day and I'm not done adding stuff to my collection. Never experienced anything like this with any system in my life, with such an incredible amount of games I'm interested in.

Have aegis rim preordered, though physical.
I think i'll finally play the stanley parable too.
Thanks for the thread OP !

May is a drought month so I should stock up as many Switch games as I can this month.

My buy list:
13 Sentinels Aegis Rim
Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga
Star Wars Force Unleashed
Chrono Cross
Zombie Army 4 Dead War
Stanley Parable
Neptunia x Senran Kagura
Sherlock Holmes Devil's Daughter

After some reviews:
MLB The Show 22
Parkasaurus
Tormented Souls
Don't Starve Together

Also whatever shadowdrops during the Indie World.

Atelier Mysterious Trilogy DX is on sale for 63 $/€ instead of the usual 90 $/€, each game individually are also in sale for 30 $/€ instead of the usual 40 $/€. I have been trying to get into the Atelier series for a while and was waiting for this deal to happen , usually KT doesn't do a lot of sales (once every 6 months) so it's a good opportunity to buy for the people interested on getting it (it's almost impossible to get the physical release) the sale ends the 20th of this month.
edit: This is part of a Koei Temco sale in general btw https://www.koeitecmoeurope.com/sale/

Thanks for the thread! I will be getting Chrono cross for sure, but might consider importing the physical version.

Thanks @Joedev for your hard work on these threads!

And thank you @juuso for mentioning Todee and Topdee. I read about it last year but forgot to put it on my spreadsheet of games I'm playing or interested in.

This review makes it sound really intriguing and I'm going to check out the Edge review you mentioned too!

---

I'm interested in Stanley Parable too. It's a walking sim type game, right? Super meta? Is the main appeal the dialogue?

Outside of the usual "hey there's a big sale" or "a surprise release" caveats, I'm not sure I'll be buying anything this month. I have 13 Sentinels on PS4, I can wait until a sale for Chrono Cross, and I'm interested in Switch Sports, but not in a "must buy day one!" way. We'll see.

I’m bummed out that Agent Intercept (if?) apparently is 30fps on Switch.

I’ve had the game for a couple years on Apple Arcade and it’s a little gem, pretty great and something you just don’t see a lot of (which is weird if you consider the power fantasy of being a 00 superspy with Bond-like gadgets in a supercar) and it’s just really well made. You can see a bit of its mobile-y design & budget roots in the UX/UI and the way the story is presented (artstyle, cinematics, how it puts itself into live gameplay, etc) and told (the writing has that certain blandness to it that you associate with Gameloft games and such).

But that “bland” feeling stops there. Because they’ve nailed everything else about awesome-ness when you’re playing.
It’s a great arcade game, the campaign is a lot of fun, and it prepares you well for the leaderboards fight.

But I disgress, the game really benefits from 60fps, you can choose to play at 30 or 60 on iPhone (for lower end models I imagine, game came out 3 years ago) and the driving is founded on the impression and feeling of analog movement/steering and the lack of fluidity hurts the experience. That isn’t to say that it’s not good anymore, absolutely not, just that it’s a bummer because it’s not something the Switch couldn’t handle but maybe it was too much to handler for PikPok (maybe resources/time contraints).

I didn’t pick it up yet because I was waiting for some reviews/impressions on the port, but while looking to see if there were any available, I’ve watched a few gameplay previews and I was pretty bummed but not entirely surprised that it was 30fps. I’d love to give Mario & co. my money (and probably will down the line anyway). I’m sure I’d enjoy it more with NSW controls but the game is built on touch controls/movement and it does it very very well, and I feel bad spending money to get a worse (imo) version of the same game (since they are both portable experiences and I don’t play Switch docked
I do but only on a second Switch connected to an arcade stick and a TV in portrait mode to get the true shmups TATE experience hehe[\spoiler]), with the huge backlog I have.

That being said, I recommend the game especially if you’re a fan of arcade experiences, it’s fun, looks good, and will scratch an itch that we just don’t get to scratch that often :) Hoping to see a sequel in the future!

Paratopic is good, right? I did a few runs of Fatum Betula and had a good time.

(I did not know I beat the whole site to the Wario thing)

  • Gotta Protectors
  • Stanley Parable UDLX
  • Slipstream
  • Ageis Rim

Are my picks for the month, although I will probably only get Splipstream day 1 simply because I’m trying to tackle my backlog (currently playing Death Door and Disco Elysium and both are amazing) and the only games I usually get anyway are the arcadey ones simply because they are games I play a ton of but usually in-between “meatier” experiences, so it doesn’t make sense waiting then out: I don’t really consider “backlog” a game that will “never end”, with potentially infinite replayability (while I hardly if ever replay a meaty game I’ve completed). At most I gotta get protecting :p Stanley and Aegis are sure-buys but definitely on hold for a sale of >30%; House of the Dead I will wait because I’m not sold yet on a lighgun game without at least pointer capabilities (wii-like), we’ll see how well the controls work; it’s also 30fps *afaik, which was a bummer for Overkill on Wii, meh.

Any fans of the original Monkey Target mode from the Super Monkey Ball games, I fully recommend picking Bonito Days it’s currently £1.19 on the eshop but it’s a ton of fun in multiplayer.

Nobody talks about

Grand Mountain Adventure: Wonderlands

but I heard that it’s an undiscovered gem. Personally, I’m really intrigued and only waiting because there is no demo, the launch price is a bit too steep to go in totally blind and well to be fair Microids does deep sales pretty often for their titles so I might as well wait. But man that one and Cruis’n Mix Tengoku Special (20%off atm in “EU eShops”) are looking at me every time I take a peak at my wishlist (for the latter it’s the lack of TATE for the arcade+ mode that is holding me back -and while Saturn mode has a TATE option (Flip Grip friendly) it doesn’t have the DLC ships and also no online leaderboards, bummer -

I've got Lego Star Wars and 13 Sentinels on my list for the month. Still playing Rune Factory 5, I'm ok with the performance issues so far but a patch would be welcome.

Baba is You is on sale for the first time ever in my region, I'm finally jumping in.

This looks great! As you said, the current price is a bit steep, but I'll definitely keep an eye on it. Thanks for the recommendation!

Found a good honest review, dang this seems really great! Also 60 fps, online leaderboards, replays, open world traversal and sandbox mode, double the content of the mobile version apparently (downloading now)… I want it!

I just love tiny isometric/top-down games, I get Atari’s Super Sprint/Off-Road vibes, it’ll be hard waiting on a sale but I don’t care about physical unless they are one-and-done/rpgs/story games so I can’t really justify its price as a download.

Well they are pretty different games, what are you in the mood for, and have you played CC before?
Personally, I’d go with 13S first because it’s such a refreshing and captivating experience

I haven't played either before. I been unsure if I want another visual novel to compliment my play of triangle strategy or if Chrono Cross adventure is not too overwhelming scale as a nice viable secondary complement to Triangle Strategy. I know a lot of the PS1 JRPGs have a reputation of being overlong even when they are great.

Hi guys, I've received some EU codes for a giveaway of Sockventure (to be released on April 14th)
Is it legit to share it on this message board? if not, sorry and I'll delete my post

bests!
I cant see why reason why not - but if you want certainty, there's no harm in PMing a mod.

(and I for one would certainly be interested!)

That's much more negative than most other reviews that I've seen, some of which are fairly glowing. I'm still interested in giving it a try, if I can make some time for it.

Being available on Game Pass makes that easier to say, admittedly.
90% of the time that’s what my GPU sub is for, to try out games I want to buy on Switch later. Saved me quite a but of money but it also helped me learn I would love a game and even more so in portable-form. It seems limited as a use type but in reality I feel like I get quite a bit if mileage out of it. And the exclusive game here and there to, although admittedly I game very little on tv (Some Xbox game, racing games with the wheel stand; my Switch OLED is only played portable, with an og Switch connected to a TV+arcade stick in portrait mode just to play shmups/pinball TATE’d.).
