I don't think anyone will be bothered by the main cast of SMTV being high schoolers for example because romance won't be an element (unless there's sexualization).

Sadly I think for now the two constants of Persona will be high school setting and homophobia (I certainly hope Persona 6 will not have any homophobic content but I'm not holding my breath. And I think homophobia is a big weakness in Persona 4 and 5).
 
Hm I wonder if the capcom arcade stadium packs will ever go on sale(or when additional ones they traded are coming) been taking a lot longer than the general capcom game to go on sale
 
Haven’t had much chance to comment as I was out of town for work/family functions. Just want to say Dread is way beyond my expectations. I can definitely start to see ways to tighten play-throughs and change up the progression. Not sure I’m skilled enough but think this will be great once it really gets a hold in the speed running community.
 
Target has finally shipped Doki Doki to me. I'm planning to do a DDLC/Corpse Party double feature later this month. I don't even like horror.

I hear ya. I've been patiently waiting since it went up in February. Hopefully sometime around Black Friday/Winter they will be in the next big eshop sale.

Oh good thought, wonder if they’ll do a double whammy of new packs/sales on the old ones. Plus they’ll definitely do some digital sales since physical is going to be pathetic this year

Ace Attorney 20th ann portal is open. Mostly just merch now, plus new artwork of the GAA cast from Kazuya Nuri (art director of GAA). Interesting to me that this anniversary stuff presents GAA and classic AA as if they're two branches of one series, when presumably the former is already finished. I know GAA is also just the most recent release, but hmmm..

I think that's a tad unfair here, it's fully remastered boards from 1-3, and fully remastered minigames from 1-9. Lacking in boards but plenty of minigames and fun to be had here. And the online allows for saving and resuming games later.
 
That artwork is phenomenal. I do hope we get AA7 information soon. Would be awesome if we get it next year.

Beautiful artwork.

I'm actually glad that I bought the physical version of the game because my god does the cover look incredible. Probably some of the best Switch cover I've seen.

Playing Ys 8 was so damn good on the Switch that I doubled-dipped and bought it on Steam for sale just to play it at a higher framerate.

I legit only do this when a game really impresses me.



Such a great OST.

Damn that makes too much sense.
The hate for femininity is some real stuff. I remember when Breath of the Wild was revealed and there were Brazilian youtubers or accounts commenting that I used to follow back then that were saying stuff like "why don't we get Link as a full adult with a beard?" "why can't we have Zelda looking like The Witcher 3?". I got so bothered back then because Zelda is all about growing up, living childhood and adolescence, why does everything need to be goreful or have sexual stuff? If it's not aimed at 18+ it's not good?
Not only this but gender norms in which every male character has to be hyper masculine and manly looking and every woman is either fragile or ultra sexualized.
I also love how JoJo basically laughs at this hegemonic masculinity and people that criticizes cute or feminine looking characters by making the protagonist super disproportionately muscular and masc.

I found Ys IX's soundtrack to be really disappointing compared to VII. It has some decent tracks later in the game but Ys VIII's soundtrack feels both nostalgic and adventurous the whole way through.

Regarding the "anime" debate:
When Xenoblade DE was announced the Xenoblade community I was in was trashing the game HARD, saying things like "Takahashi is chasing a fad and trying to turn Xenoblade into anime" and "Xeno used to be so cool and mature, why did they have to turn it into anime?" and at one point I started sharing screenshots from the anime cutscenes from Xenogears back in 1998 and they got maaaaad 🤣

I can only imagine how fucking weird if instead of anime-like and cell shading they had chosen to remake Xenoblade into realistic characters and shaders. I mean I don't even have an image in my head of Shulk looking realistic. In the original game he didn't and was polygonal and with a blurry texture lol. Imagine if they made those human Mario fan arts into Odyssey. Same energy really.

My team, the Football Team, just took our the Raiders by being such an abhorrent organization that even the NFL needs to investigate it and comb through all of the emails. We'll take out the rest of the teams as well once the dirty laundry comes out!

Yea that sucks to hear considering how fantastic the OST is for Ys8.

I still need to play Ys9 eventually tho because I do love the combat in these games.

Big same. IX's wasn't BAD, it still had some good stuff there, but nothing really jumped out at me like most of VIII's did. It had some of the same problem the game itself did, too many areas felt same-y and had similar structures and environments and blended together a bit too much

That was the biggest deception I had with Persona 5. I thought P4 had a good representation by what a friend of mine told me but apparently it doesn't either. Well, if they didn't solve the homophobia in P5R and didn't bother adding

same gender relationship when the only character it makes any sense for you to be romantically involved is Riuji[SPOILER/]

I don't think it's that much of a hopeful thing for the future. But who knows. Fire Emblem has same sex marriage system and is a global success, maybe they take the note. And also homophobia isn't something that will be turned a blind eye so often when P6 releases.

Just to think boomers spread loads of hate towards Zelda Wind Waker being cartoony and not a ""realistic"" game like the tech demo(lol in 2021 even that demo looks cartoony), I definitely lose hope in humanity. 2D Zelda and 3D Zelda artwork was always cartoony or anime esque but apparently the fanfics of western straight cis boomers never take that in consideration when wanting Zelda to be Nintendo's Dark Souls or The Witcher.

Lamar Jackson’s development in the passing game has been amazing (not that I doubted he would). Having him be able to post 400 yards in a team with the running threat is insane. Just needs to stay healthy. Helps that the receiving options actually catch the ball now.

Yeah no drops was huge.

Honestly beyond Lamar it's just insanely entertaining watching these ridiculous games that we need to keep breaking decades old records to win. This has been by far the most entertaining the Ravens have ever been, win or lose.

I promise I'll set up an NFL thread in the roost at some point so we don't have to derail this one (assuming it has a rail to begin with).

The Ravens are so much fun to watch. As are, since I've been seeing them a lot since they're in the Broncos' division, the Chargers. Justin Herbert is a beast. That game next week between them and the Ravens has potential to be a great watch.

Look I know we’re sick of Switch Pro discussions but I have to say the OLED model pretty much killed off the Hybrid nature of my Switch.

It’s a handheld now - a beautiful one. Only 4K and a new TV could possibly save docked for me now…

Ys 9 is fantastic. Not as good as 8 imo but it does have a stronger cast at least, and the new abilities add a lot to exploration and gameplay

Also the Switch version runs at a shaky 20 fps on a good day so maaybe not that version. It's one of the only games where framerate issues actually bothered me during gameplay, it almost makes Age of Calamity look like a technical showcase. Then again I still played and loved it so it didn't bother me that much

Ys VIII is my top 1 game i ever played. Everything about it is stellar - the story is phenomenal, interesting, keeping you on the edge of the seat, yet no obvious and has several plot twists, the female co protagonist Dana is amazing and best female game character i have ever seen, combat satisfying and my god is the OST one of the BEST, im still listening to it years after i played the game :) Ys IX was amazing, and had nice mystery element, and side characters were better developed... But man, only true ending of Ys VIII has ever made me shed a tears because video game ending (both the ending itself, and not being able to experience this game first time ever again). I cannot recommend it enough!

EDIT: Also about OST, you know other games final boss OST which are hype as hell? Here its first zone level of OST. And it only keeps getting better :) Sad OST makes you somber and almost cry, happy OST makes you smile, Boss fights OST makes your blood rush dramatically, and last ending OST makes you cry... a lot.

Holy cow, I somehow managed to snag the Metroid Dread amiibo 2 pack off of Amazon without paying scalper prices! I've been refreshing that page trying to get it since like, 4 yesterday! Perseverance really does pay off!
