Apologies in advance for this kind of pointless mini-rant

I was listening to the Steam Deck episode of "Brad and Will Made a Tech Pod" (I recommend it btw, fun show) where they had two reviewers on to discuss the Deck. At the end they were asked if they recommended it and one of them said "I'd like to play certain games on a handheld, and why would I want to play Hades on the Switch when it runs at 30 fps and Slay the Spire when it runs at 20".

This comment made me itch inside my brain lol. Correct me if I'm wrong but both those games run at 60 on the Switch. I don't see the point of exaggerating Switch performance vs. the Deck, it's especially disappointing when its a discussion hosted by tech enthusiasts for an audience of tech enthusiasts. There are other valid comparisons to be made like ergonomics or the Steam ecosystem, or if comparing games, then more intensive ports like Outer Worlds instead of two indies lol. It just muddies the discussion and paints an inaccurate picture of both devices.

Rant over, sorry. >.>
I don’t count frames, so I can only use the eye test. Pretty sure Hades runs at 60 but Slay the Spire definitely struggles when you are paging through your deck.

Been playing though Hoa this afternoon, what a nice little gem. It's not difficult by any means (you don't even take damage), but it's a very beautiful, relaxing game. The music is superb as well. It's on sale atm, highly recommend it!

I read the title in Keanu Reeves' voice lol. But looks quite fun.

We talkin' Gamecube up in dis bish?

I got complimented by three separate people while oot and aboot in the city today for my hoodie with this show's logo

In hindsight this show is probably what elevated Gamecube from "cool, I wish I had it" to frothing at the mouth and being an unbearable pain in the ass to my parents until I finally wore them down and they conceded I could buy one

This show existed and yet I still can't get into casual Twitch watching

Hey Fami! I have a code for 1200 Golden Acorns for Pokémon Cafe Remix, (I don’t play this, and ended up with a code). I am not sure if dlc codes are region locked (I’m in the US). I don’t have a need for it, and would like someone to have it who plays Pokemon Cafe Remix. :)
If you’re still looking for someone to give the code to, I play Pokémon Café ReMix daily!

As a child of the SNES and N64, the Cube took some of my favourite franchises in a direction that did not appeal to me. It was actually the first system I bought with my own money, and I will always have fond memories of the wonderful games like Metroid Prime 1/2 and Resident Evil 4, but for me the Wii was something a return to form and reignited in me a passion for gaming that kinda slumped a little in the 6th generation. Something about that era of gaming just doesn't quite speak to me; I found the PS2 a lot less appealing than the PS1 as well.

Being experimental can be a good thing, I just personally prefer the flavour of experimentation the Wii and Switch have. I feel like with the latter especially they've struck a really great balance between innovation and tradition that combines the best of both worlds.

Post-N64 it really felt to me like Nintendo were trying to find their place in the 21st century, and with the Switch is feels like they've finally found it and have crystallized their identity in the modern era. I love the Nintendo of 2006-2010, but Switch era Nintendo feels like a person who's finally figured themselves out and achieved self-confidence and self-acceptance.

Granted, that's not to say current Nintendo is perfect, far from it, but for me, it's like they finally have that SNES mojo back.

The existence of the Steam Deck has made some annoying people a lot louder. I even kinda want one for the games that aren’t on Switch but I’m tired of hearing “just get it on Steam Deck” for certain games that should be on Switch.

What did they say?
basically

Cleared chapter 1 from Loop Hero and it's good. Somewhat additicting too, it's tempting to keep on looping :p

I have to say about the horizon dev situation , thats sad people are making fun of horizon devs as a whole when its just one dev who 'cried' about ER getting better scores . Also people that act like Ubisoft type of games are outdated just aren't their target audience last AC was the most successful one , they still have a place just because you prefer BOTW or ER type of open world games that doesnt mean other types shouldnt be made.

Just a few days left until .hack//GU finally comes to Switch. Gonna have to put Elden Ring on the back-burner for a while.
I’m emulating the first series on my Series X right now. Don’t think I’m gonna finish before GU is out but I’ll probably pick it up anyway. The game is a lot grindier than I remember (I only ever finished the first one)

It sounds like the guy just has an opinion. People know that's allowed, right?
Ehhh... yes, of course it is, but when you're a dev on a game and you're publicly saying things like this about another game, especially phrased in the ways they're talking there and not in a more constructive manner, it just comes across as sour grapes and whining. Not a good look indeed.

While it’s not a good look. I don’t see it as something that needs to cause major controversy.

There’s a bunch of verified devs on Era and say similar to worst things that really never get blown up like that tweet will, granted I feel that tweet won’t last long, sometimes emotions run high and said something out of fustration.

Unfortunate tho.

Those first four games need a remaster at some point. They've aged so bad and physical copies, especially for the fourth game, are super pricey.

He is the last one , second one is a developer of Nixxes Software (Modern Tomb Rider + Avengers support devs now bought my Sony) and the first one an Ubisoft dev
You know, I'm putting myself in the shoes of that Ubisoft dev, who from looking up his stuff does UX. Imagine you work on a bunch of games, making UX a particular way to service the AAA game design. And people don't exactly love it? I imagine a lot of people think Ubisoft's brand of open world UI is busy and guides the player a bit too much, but to an extent it does work for many players, so it's not like it's totally without merit. But people still critique it.

Then Elden Ring comes out. And it features the complete antithesis of your UX work. And people and reviewers adore it, even praising it for its UX minimalism.

You know what? Yeah, I'd probably be pretty peeved too.

Would you say the original Mario Strikers is still worth getting today?
Mmm, to be honest I don't have super strong memories of it, only played it a handful of times at friends' houses. It's fun, but truthfully I'd wait to see what the reviews are for Battle League on Switch. I'd say it has a good chance of maintaining what made the original so popular with the bonus of 8 player multi whether online or local with NLG still at the helm

I sympathize but it’s a bad look. It just reads like the guy has sour grapes because his very successful game isn’t getting as much love as another very successful game.

This is true, but also this complaint has been thrown at Ubisoft for years. Long, long before From Software went open world. Like, Ubisoft's style of game development received widespread criticism by the mid 2010's.

At this point, it isn't any other companies' fault that somehow Ubisoft hasn't seen the writing on the wall. But at the same time, I feel like they purposefully don't take that criticism to heart, because these games have a niche, a niche that likes that sort of thing, and these games continue to sell better, better than most open worlds. And that's fine. But that also means it's a bit weird for the developer to get upset like that.

So if the developer has a problem, I feel like he really should have a problem with the design philosophy of his particular team's parent company, rather than Elden Ring.

The Horizon dev tho? I absolutely get it. The online discussion around Horizon has been very, very down on the game, lol.

It’s very much an Arcady Soccer game. As in its very reaction base and how skill you can move around and tackle. Characters all play the same as well.

It’s ridiculously fun. But it has absolutely no content. You just play it for fun basically. Or with friends.

I don't necessarily disagree with these points - though I assume he probably does think that the UX in the games he's worked on is a better approach and just...doesn't like the Elden Ring UX (no accounting for taste). I just sympathize with the perspective.

Imagine being the guy that tells on a dev's company because they said "mean" things about Elden Ring.

Yeah I get that.

The way he said it sounded a bit arrogant though, he essentially was acting like the way he learned how to do UX is the only right way (probably because it's traditional). It just seems a little close-minded even if it's an opinion.

Doshin the Giant is back! On vinyl!

No, Nintendo don’t own the music so this release could happen without them. Shame GameCube NSO is so unlikely, because that’s the best chance the game has at being rereleased anywhere.

The Switch Online mobile app just got a whole redesign and it's nice to see a fresh new design after all this time (it comes with some new features as well)

Still weird to me that people praise Elden Ring about UI/UX, exploration not being hand-guided, basically being an anti-Ubisoft open world, when botw came out literally 5 years ago. As if Zelda doesn't count because it's not for the GAMERZZZZ despite selling more than 25 Millions.
I really like Elden Ring and it deserves his praise but I literally played the same kind of open world 5 years ago.

It is nice. Too bad it still is sort of useless. This makes me think I need to bump the old thread that was made when this site started up so that more people can add each other. Will be nice come MK8 Booster Pass

The worst part about that Guerilla/Elden Ring 'drama' is that Elden Ring genuinely has UX, accessibility, and quest design problems... it's just that it's the "GOAT!!!!" right now so even industry professionals don't dare criticise those facets of the game.

It must really suck to spend months of your life developing accessibility features and/or an intuitive UI for your game only for people to shit on all that work anyway. All because the latest Fromsoft "GIT GUD!!!!!!" title, predictably, fails to feature any of them - and is allowed to not do so because of "artistic intent."

Ooh, nice, got any more details or some screenshots? Doesn’t look like the update is live on iOS yet…

Main new feature is that you can access your friend list and the associated settings from the app. You can see what friends online are playing, icon included.

Don't agree with this josh guy here. He's basically threatening not to buy any guerilla games unless they do something about that guy.

Essentially trying to get the guy fired
Agreed 100%, it was just the first screenshot I could find
