I would disagree with a few of these. Some were just natural progressions and are still occurring today. You didn’t mentioned the first console Fire Emblem but mentioned Prime which was just a take of Metroid in 3D. No different then Kirby right now too
TTYD is pretty tamed compared Super Paper Mario went into insanity territory.
Zelda still continue to experiment greatly after Wind Waker. Art style still changing
Mario too, you went to space later on. Then a 3D multiplayer game and finally possesseing objects and real humans in Mario.
But while folks still continue to point fingers at Paper Mario and it’s characters, the reality seems to be that games were able to be created at a faster pace then today thus leading to more opportunities to work on different titles. Some IPs that are just seen not worth returning. Too much time and risk nowadays.
I guess Prime feels a little more "out there" than something like Kirby and the Forgotten Land because of its FPS perspective. A lot of people did freak out when they saw Prime for the first time and thought they were turning Metroid into some first person shooter.
I guess you're right about Zelda and Mario, but I'd say even though TTYD obviously isn't as out there as SPM was, it's still pretty wild in comparison to PM today. There's a boss with a foot fetish for crying out loud lol
