Oh shit Triangle Strategy this week! I don't know how I forgot about that lol.
 
Ah the starter poll. It's that time of year again. Already. Didn't we just do this? Once again, chill, GameFreak.

Chose Sprigatito out of grass starter loyalty mostly (but also they're really cute and I'm a cat person), I tend to wait for final evos to make a final decision. All three look fantastic and I'm hoping their evos keep the trend up even if it will make my decision harder

Close call between Quaxly and Fuecoco, so have gone with my tried and true method of ‘when in doubt, pick the water starter’.
 
Hey new thread! I can't believe Triangle Strategy is out this week, but it'll be a really nice switch-up (no pun intended (okay maybe slightly intended)) from Elden Ring, although I'll probably have to finish that before I move over.

March is going to be super awesome for gaming! I’m picking up Triangle Strategy, Phantom Breaker Omnia, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, the Mario Kart 8 Booster Pass, Rune Factory 5, and Kirby. On the fence about Chocobo GP after the battle pass news. Hope the single player and local multiplayer is substantial.

  • Kirby this month! Mario Kart this month! And I still gotta finish Arceus! And I'm buying a ton thanks to the 3DS/Wii U shutdowns. Too many games, and I'm not even playing the non-Nintendo zeitgeist games...
  • Quaxley has warmed its way into my heart. An earnest little boi, I love that description. All the starters are grand, though.
  • I'm calling the inevitable Happy Mar10 Day thread. Will Nintendo do anything meaningful that day? Who knows! Will there be good sales? I doubt it! But I wanna talk Mario and Mar10 gives me a good excuse for it.

That’s pretty wild. I think it’ll come to Switch. Have to imagine it sold the best there, PlayStation, and PC. I bought it on launch day and haven’t played it yet.

Honestly? My real fear is that the Mario movie isn't a fun kind of bad but just a boring, bland kind of bad. The casting suggests the former but Illumination makes me think of the latter. It's 50/50.

And if we end up with a good movie? That's a miracle.

Yeah I think boring at worst is more likely than bad. But I am optimistic it will be good.
 
The Mario movie is doing some weird things that i'm curious to see play out.

Cranky Kong? Foreman Spike? Returning to the older Mario lore you'd see in US media (merch leak for a Mario Bros. Plumbing van like the one in the 93 movie)?

Can't say I expected any of that when the news of a Mario animated film first broke years ago.

I'm definitely curious to see a modern take on the US/retro lore. There's something interesting here, but it all comes down to the execution.

(also i'm very curious to see that merch leak so if you wanna spoiler tag it here or DM it to me I'd be thankful 👀)

But that's great because it means Kirby is about to dethrone all the other Switch darlings as the GOAT Switch game... until New Donkey Kong drops!

And of course, the impossible dream; more Mario Kart is finally coming to Mario Kart! And who knows, maybe this will be the month GoldenEye finally gets an official reveal?

sigh But probably not lol.
 
I hate that both Donkey Kong and Cranky Kong are in the movie. Now, I'm religiously obligated to watch it or I'll go to Kong Hell.

The van is the only interesting bit since there's no images of the products or anything, just listings. Best article I could find but it doesn't include every detail (Mario, Luigi and Peach alongside the 5-inch Toad; and the van playset includes a Mario figure).

Yeah it's cool that they aren't just using the bare minimum NSMB material, which was definitely a possibility.

Now I want Foreman Spike in Strikers as a tie-in.

I’ve watched Marvel’s Eternals and Peacemaker recently.

I can definitely see why Eternals is rather mixed. It’s got some very poor pacing and rushed character development. Too many characters in my opinion for this type of story, plus the editing is weird, felt like scenes out of order. But it looks visually nice, some nice shots of actual locations. Reminds me of the First Suicide Squad, only it’s not terrible. Just mediocre overall, don’t feel like a film that was taken from the director, but a film that had too many characters and a thin script. Shame.

Peacemaker was pretty good overall. Too many jokes that should’ve stop sooner and too much force swearing. It’s like watching Goodfellas and all that swearing feels natural and then watching Peacemaker where about 30-40% of the swearing is like reading if from the script and not coming out naturally. But still enjoyable in the end. Did enjoy some of the social commentary Gunn inserted. And John Cena is the best of the wrestlers actors. I was actually impress by him here.

That’s my short review of these 2 things I watched.

It's weird.

I'd love nothing better than the film to be a springboard to fill in the gaps and rollback things that I never thought made sense when it came to "the deepest lore". I just never expected a film to be the place for such, when a game (especially the RPGs) could've been doing this type of thing ages ago.

Ah, well. I'll take Kamek being voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson, and thus, Bowser "technically" having a "black parental figure" as a W!
