Pre-Release Bayonetta 3 — Pre-release Discussion Thread

Btw was this posted?

So, "same as it ever was", in a nutshell.

You had to figure this was going to be one of P*'s main paths going forward as it was, and Nintendo's own Yakao Yamane moving over to P* (as noted in the article) is only going to make that more so. Bayo3 should be a nice reminder of what happens when the two parties get together, and Astral Chain 2 will probably be something launching on the Switch's successor, I'd imagine.

Kamiya-directed StarFox when?
I can see Nintendo getting a stake in that company soon. Not a full acquisition, though I do feel like Platinum is actually a company that can benefit from one.
To be honest, I don't see it. Not only because P* isn't interested in selling anything, but also because Nintendo likely doesn't see the need for such.

If you're in Nintendo's place: Why buy, or buy out, when P* keeps coming back to you for work on a regular basis in between other stuff they're doing? You even got one of your own over there as basically as an "inside man", now, no less.

If PlatinumGames ever explicitly starts saying they're shopping around for a buyer, then maybe Nintendo might have to fend off some one like Tencent for the right to put a ring on the finger. But until then...

Because their contract work for Nintendo is only one slice of their work, and they're floundering everywhere else. Sooner or later the hits won't afford the misses.

For the time being, the risk to them is still minimal because the rest of their body of work has also been contract work. If stuff like their upcoming self-published work, "Project GG", also flubs? Then yeah, they would stand to be in serious trouble because there's nobody like a Sega, Nintendo, Microsoft or Square Enix to offset the costs in the case of failure.

But again, none of that has anything to do with Nintendo, at the moment.

will Nintendo bail them out if shit happens, though? we saw what happened to Alpha Dream, but Platinum is far more valuable than AD is

I think that depends entirely on if PG is okay with assisting on game development of the typical Nintendo title like Monolith Soft when the time comes.

We don't know why Nintendo didn't help AD at the time but I'd wager it had to do with them being rather behind the times when it comes to studio and development structure.

The cutscenes are running at 15 fps or something ridiculous in the Game Informer video. Coupled with the fact that the previews recently didn't mention framerate issues when they played the game, the problem is obviously with the video upload itself.

After watching that video, it shocks me that people thought that was the actual framerate. Did people not notice how uncharacteristically bad it was? Like 15fps cutscenes? Should've been the first hint something was wrong.

we are talking about Switch footage posted on the world wide web. It is either the biggest POS hardware or a Pro device. No in between.

Just finished bayo 1 and 2 for the first time. 1 was good but not great. 2 was amazing. Decided to try the series just because I knew 3 was coming out soon and didn't think I'd like it as much as I did lol. Might be buying 3 day one.

Amazon Mexico opened pre-orders for the Special Edition and they were gone in 20 minutes or so, I'm glad I got mine.

I am really excited for the game, but I also haven't seen a single bit of footage outside of that initial trailer. Ready as Heaven for those juicy surprises.

I love that platforming puzzle. Video shows off the extended exploration a little which is great to see.

Still, seems like Game Informer still hasn't got their act together. There is clearly a (framepacing?) problem with their video footage especially visible in the cutscenes.

Can't believe that video is still up. I'd be so pissed to see my game misrepresented like that. How long does it take to re-render and upload again?

The more I see demon masquerade, the more I'm convinced they looked at 2 and wanted to improve on wicked weaves climax moves.

Also nice seeing Jeanne there with Bayo for a bit!

Bayonetta 2 is a really important game to me. It came out during one of the worst times in my life. It helped take my mind off things and, as silly as it sounds, gave me a purpose while things got better.

Strangely enough, this year has mirrored that year in some ways and I'm glad that Bayo 3 is finally almost here to provide some needed relief. It really looks so good

Did they finally send Bayonetta to see a spine specialist? Walking around with your back in a half moon curve all the time can’t be comfortable at all.

There's also the notion that Kamiya and co. likely wanted to take a look back at DMC, because Demon Masquerade definitely looks like that next logical extension from Devil Trigger.

That said, Masquerades seem to go quite a bit farther with the idea than Devil Triggers have done so in the last 20 years of DMC games, and actually have incorporated ideas I've always wanted. Like it's one thing to henshin into a demonic-looking hero, but if what I wanted to actually transform into a full-fledged demon, which also has usages outside of battle?

Final trailer probably with previews too.
I really don't want to watch it though, I was sold since the beginning and I don't want spoilers 2 weeks from release.

I am so hyped man. Each trailer looks better and better. GOTY candidate for sure.

Yep, areas seem to be more like what I wanted (One of them seem to be even straight from Nier: Automata).

Although previews say that performance kinda tanks once the Kaiju appear.

Mari Shimazaki: “Here’s the potential designs I came up with Bayonetta’s new look!”

Kamiya and Miyata: “…. scrap everything we’re doing a multiverse story”

Hence the longer than expected development time.
