Reviews Metroid Dread | Review Thread

Do we have a shot of it getting back to 90? 😭 I remember Super Mario Odyssey fell to 96 and a couple weeks later got back to 97

Anyways 88/89 is neat already. And reading the non scored reviews we can see the game is getting a lot of praise. I'm happy and hope the release of it gets high sales. It absolutely deserves to do great.

It's my first post here, I'm really happy to join y'all ♥️

I hate when the unscored reviews are glowing, like damn help the meta out 😭😭
Lol exactly how I'm feeling.

Like an essential from Eurogamer is basically a 10/10. Polygon would be a 10/10 as well.

And those are big publications so those scores would have yeeted the score upwards

Damn, woke up hoping for a 90+ meta but 88 is definitely really frickin good!

Yep, high 80s was right around my expectations. All in all, we have one hell of a winner. Can’t wait, spooky season is DELIVERING this year.

Welcome back, queen.

Been listening to parts of the Soundtrack online, and I really dig it. But then again, outside of a few classic bangers from Metroid and Super, I lean more into I prefer the ambient, alien, creepy soundtracks of Prime and Samus Returns (and even the OG Metroid 2).

Man, those scores are looking good.

....how could I ever have doubted lol! With Dread this month and SMT V dropping next month, Nintendo goes out with a bang this year.

I've seen this mentioned a few times, but I had no idea this was a conclusion of any sort for any Metroid story.

The fact that the game is getting so many good reviews hurts me so much since I would only grab the game two weeks later (thx international shipping)... Hope everyone enjoy on Friday.

Sakamoto said this will conclude the "Metroid" arc. He already has plans for a new arc with the next game though.
Ah! Completely missed that. I've done well not to spend too much time in the marketing, and interviews, except for viewing that on spoilers trailer I now regret.

Awesome to see. I've been waiting so long for this game it's still a bit unreal that it's actually coming out.

Not quite a 10/10 but close (polygon, I mean).

Either way who cares I'm pumped

So happy about the great reviews. This is the game a lot of us waited two decades for! It's finally here!!!

I still don't get why Bustafellows is in the first spot with only 11 reviews while Psychonauts 2 has 147 and It Takes Two has 124. Or why it's ranked at all for that matter with such a low amount of reviews.

i think for them anything with more than a few reviews count (5 or 6, iirc). bustafellows would most likely drop out of the hall of fame if anyone else bothered to review it, but for now it's the king. as for why it's higher, it's because the scores are like 89.64, 89.52, 89.12 (for example), but the site only shows the integer part. this is the case with meta as well.

Damn those scores are looking mighty fine.
Just read the 4 low scoring ones because those are usually more critical but it seems that especially the Digitally Downloaded reviewer doesn't know what makes a Metroid game great.
I can't wait to pick it up saturday together with my OLED

i want to get this physically but unfortunately physical games take a few days to a week to get here. i'll keep myself busy with tetris effect until i can buy a copy.

“Metroid Dread mixes Alien and David Cronenberg films to create Nintendo's creepiest game to date” -from Digital Trends

Okay, honestly, this excites me more than anything. Matching Super in atmosphere and music be damned if I get dialed-up spooks.

This game is exactly the type of game I love to go to the store for, seeing it standing there on the shelf, grabbing it, paying it and go home with it. Just too bad there are no manuals anymore to drool over before I get home lol.

Fuck it! I guess I’m going to get it. Even though my wife wants to do another playthrough of Luigi Mansion 3 this weekend. Maybe I wait.

This sounds dope. I need it. Is it Friday yet?

wonder what review they put in

this is why I always stay with meta 💅💅💅
looks like it was some reviews that were already on meta but hadn't been added to open yet. there's not much new that wasn't already on metacritic.

IGN: "these are some of the best boss fights I've ever played in any action platformer"

GamesRadar: "the boss fights are poorly patterned and can be weirdly inconsistent" + focuses majority of the review on them lol

and the "digitally downloaded" review's main negative point seems to just be that... the reviewer doesn't like that it's a metroidvania and wanted it to be more linear? Hmm.
