Pre-Release Hollow Knight: Silksong — Pre-release Discussion Thread

Finished the original yesterday after 56h with 102%, incredible game! Can't wait to play the sequel, the trailer from 2019 already looks fantastic!

Although 2022 has to be the year, and I think it's totally right to expect it before this year ends... that seems really like a placeholder, doesn't it? I mean, why would they, of all possible versions, give an official date just for mobile?
I would believe it to be just a placeholder date as well. I just think Team Cherry are taking their time, and we know time is something people need when making games.

I love Hollow Knight but I don't understand this sense of urgency that has appeared from the fact we haven't seen it much for a long while; if the team was able to do the first game that's reason enough for me to give them confidence already. When it's time for us to know something, we'll know.

I'm replaying it right now. Definitely my favorite game in the last 10 years. Can't wait for Silksong.

it it's in the direct, i hope it's not a shadow drop. i'd rather have time to prepare and put time aside for it because i know it's gonna consume me for 50+ hours.

I don’t want a shadowdrop either. I want at least a couple weeks to prepare, speculate, hype, etc.

I don't want a shadowdrop since I do want to finish Legends Arceus at some point and Silksong randomly dropping would not be conducive to that

Though I don't think it'll shadowdrop here, if anything we'll get a release date but even that I'm somewhat doubtful of

Silksong won't be shadow dropped. The first game had been out for almost 18 months on PC when it shadow dropped on Switch. That's not the case here. It's a brand new release.

I hope that Hollow Knight: Silksong is in the direct so I can get information on Hollow Knight: Silksong and imagine that I am playing Hollow Knight: Silksong every single day until I am playing Hollow Knight: Silksong

Yeah launching less than 2 weeks before Elden Ring would suck. And I could get an OLED before it launches, if it comes a bit later.

I don't know guys, i think there is a high chance of it being shadow dropped this Direct: Its going to be 3 years next monday ever since the game was announced, and Team Cherry has been more quiet than usual last year.

It's a highly anticipated release, they don't need to speculate and hype with a release date; i think it would have a bigger impact for them to simply shadow drop on the Eshop after the direct, and releasing the same day on PC.

There is no precedent for a release as anticipated as this one being shadowdropped. But history is made of a lot of moments that had no precedents either, so who knows?

Do I think it will be shadowdropped? No. If I had to bet I'd say we are not getting any mention of Silksong whatsoever. But I don't think we should eliminate the possibility of a shadowdrop because there is no precedent.

Yeah almost no chance this would ever be a shadow drop. This is a huge console exclusive game for Nintendo, indie or otherwise. No way they don't have a hype/marketing campaign.

At this point, I have two assumptions when it comes to Silksong. I am not sure if both are correct, but I am confident at least one of them is.

1. They probably announced the project (which was originally meant to be DLC) had become a full-fledged game not too long after they made that decision, which means by that point they had to do all the work necessary to turn a DLC into a complete standalone release.

2. They are ambitious fellows who know quite well the expectations that are hovering over this game, so they have gone absolutely bonkers with scope and polish to surpass the original. And that's considering Hollow Knight is one of the largest Metroidvanias ever (if not the largest). Given they are a small team, they have had quite a lot in their hands during all this time.

Either way, when it comes, I am sure the wait will have been worth it.

I mean, I figure they could have had her record voicelines at any point, since it's not like there's a strict pairing between her voicelines and the text (there are only so many ways you can record "SHAW")

But voicelines are generally done towards the end of a game's production so this could be a sign that it's almost done

Saw this thread on the front page and nearly had a heart attack. :p

At this point I am betting on a pretty big showing when the E3 Direct comes around.
