StarTopic Anime |ST| Is Captain Falcon more anime than Fire Emblem?

Fuck me dead. This looks so good.

They've been working on it for like five or six years at least... 8 60 min eps covering one volume each, one to one adaptation pretty much - covers everything in the manga - they put in the work on it to make sure it was done right - labor of love

Pluto is a top 5 manga for me, to say that I am extremely excited for the anime would be the understatement of the year.

Onto the Dark Masters arc of Digimon Adventure. When I think "final arc," this is what always comes to mind first of any series. The stakes are higher than ever and the villains more powerful than before. It's really something special.

I must admit I find myself more emotional about certain moments in the show than I would think, rewatching in my 30s. The heart of this show beats so strong at its best moments, which is probably why I'm still watching it nearly 25 years later.

One nice thing about the Pluto anime is it looks like Viz has reprinted all of Urasawa's books ahead of time, Monster had been oop here for ages which is making me 👀 also seems like they made Pluto available digitally to read as well

(Sorry, a little off topic I know, but just exciting haha)

That's great news, I could never find the last three volumes of Pluto.

Haha I was actually in the exactly same boat! I think I'll make an effort to finish it this month ahead of the anime, that'll be fun

Don't forget the that the greatest manga of all time is getting its anime adaptation soon.

This will be fun. But personally I’m looking forward to the wrong way to use healing magic more

Pretty crazy that this, Pluto, and Witch Hat Atelier are all finally getting anime adaptions. Anime only fans are in for something special if they all live up to the source material.

I'm so glad Discotek put this release together, it's been over a decade since I rewatched Adventure and it still hits like a ton of bricks. A fantastic release for a fantastic show. Now I really hope we see a Tamers release before too long.

God was missing a lot the gundam build universe, glad to see all the previous characters. Now THIS is a goddam plamo

Fall season is rocketing out of the gates, I agree. The heavy hitters are hitting real hard, with a couple of them even going beyond that. I’ve also found a few surprise dark horses. Incredible stuff all around.

Yeah it’s been great. Got plenty of dubs I’m waiting on tho. No drops yet

I've decided to ignore my previous anime snz backlog in order to try and keep up with the new one. U_U I'll try to slowly chip away at it tho.

As for the new ones, I haven't watched everything yet, but Frieren absolutely stole my heart.
Most looking forward to that one, I even decided to get the first 3 volumes of it because of how good the 2hr episode was!

Shangri La anime was neat too! Ragna anime had a long first episode too, it was edgy but in a good way!

The only one I wasn't vibing with was the Vampire Hikikomari one so I dropped it.

Probably the best season for this approach because there’s a metric ton of shows airing right now, with a high concentration of quality.

Frieren, Shangri-la Frontier and Ragna Crimson have all been stellar adaptations, super happy with those. I do agree the shut-in vampire anime needs to cook a little more.

SpyXFamily is off to a great start. I really missed this show :)

Also watched the first episode of Undead Unluck, was a real rollercoaster to start things off, funny, kinda gory and even somewhat emotional? Really curious where this goes :D

I can't recall its English name(something Destruction of Kingdoms something maybe), but Hametsu no Oukoku's first episode was really dark.. seems like it'll be a very intense revenge story.

On a different note, theres 3 music animes ill be watching too, those being Hypmic s2 (its so extra i love it), Paradox Live, and Kawagoe Boys something something.

This season is already god-tier and we don’t even have Pluto and Scott Pilgrim yet
A friend of mine got me a Netflix gift card as a birthday gift two days ago (my birthday was weeks back) and it just hit me I’ll be able to watch the Scott Pilgrim anime which I’m now very excited for.

Incidentally, does anyone here have Netflix exclusive anime recommendations? I’ve never had Netflix myself until now. I’ve seen Little Witch Academia and two seasons of both Castlevania and Aggretsuko.

The disastrous life of Saiki K is hilarious. Romance Killer starts comedic but touches some surprisingly deep subjects. Baki. They’ve got Magi(with the dub) till the 31st. If you want to suffer something depraved there’s Devilman Crybaby, which is straight up Go Nagai darkness. Oh and Neo Thermae Nova is excellent

What do you like in terms of genres or stories? Though general recommendations include Violet Evergarden, Beastars, The Great Pretender, My Happy Marriage, Drifting Dragons, Tiger and Bunny and maybe try out Arcane too

I’m open to most things! Magical girls, fantasy, sci fi, adventure, music/idols, battle shows are probably my favorites, but I like to try a bit of everything!

The only stuff I super shy away from are generally intense violence and horror. I’m not generally into fanservice stuff either, but I can tolerate it if the show has other stuff going for it.

Oh definitely don’t watch Devilman Crybaby then. The original source manga caused mass outrage and panic by parents and officials all over, it inspired a ton of edgy shit including Chainsawman. Pushed a ton of boundaries, not all good. Super dark and violent

On a different note here is the entirely different and cheesy show Toei made using the series Bible Nagai made before making the manga

(Yeah those poor kids had no clue what they were in for when they decided to try the manga version.)

Yeah I appreciated your recommendations prior Mandos, but I knew for sure I wasn’t watching Devilman Crybaby based on what I knew about it haha.

Gotcha! I think my recommendations should be enough to get you started. Just going to add The Orbital Children, which is a fascinating hard sci-fi series about a child who was raised in space from birth.
Thanks for all of the recommendations meatbag :)

Bobobobobo
they only ever published one volume titled "Special Edition" in Germany. But I read that one so many times as a kid and it shapes my humour drastically. It was just 10 chapters from the middle of the normal manga lol, only learned that this year.

Watched the first episode of Frierun and Undead Unluck and really liked both. From my friends who read the manga they say UU cuts down on the pervy humor after the early stuff thankfully.

In particular, Andy completely stops harassing Fuuko, to the point that the perviness in the early chapters feel like a misguided appeal to hormonal teens.

Ah yes, I was talking about Magia Record the anime. Thanks for clarifying.
Wanted to continue this in the Anime ST to not derail General Discussion, but the anime is odd since:

From the jump it's obvious there's some divergence (there's a new character, Kuroe who wasn't there at all and Iroha never meets Madoka and Homura where she would in the game which obviously has an impact on her character) and tone change (from a positive story (about rallying a community together) to a more Madoka-like horror and loneliness) and then some major rule shifts on how stuff works especially with Doppels in particular (they also look awful in the anime lol), but basically it's once you hit episode 12 that it massively shifts away from the game in terms of plot with the back 12 then being completely different. It occasionally still works with parts of the skeleton of the game's story, but generally it just becomes something else entirely. To get a sense of how drastic it is, I believe the count is no one dies to eleven people die.

It's really kind of a bummer too in the sense it just doesn't really work as a standalone thing or as a connected thing either and doubly so for English game fans. The rules, themes, and plot of the anime universe are so wildly different from the game and it's unsatisfying that the very last scene presumably shows a tie in to an event in the ongoing mobile game. I don't know specifics, but the game did add Kuroe at some point who was not present at all in Arc 1. As a fan, it also just doesn't really work on a what-if level as seemingly the different part of the inciting incident (Nemu retaining her memory) doesn't really explain why the world is so different even though I guess you could come up with a butterfly effect-like explanation for it. Given how the game described the Magia Record universe in relation to the main one, the best explanation is it is a third universe entirely which makes sense when Ultimate Madoka hands normal Magia Record Iroha a book at the end of the anime.

I don't want to say I didn't enjoy it for what it was, I actually still really like it and it was so cool to get something so wildly unique as a fan. With the game shutdown, a truncated version of the main game would be more valuable to me as I like the themes and characters in it more (Iroha is completely different in the anime as she gives up multiple times, whereas in the game she overcomes her weaknesses to lead the group and inspire the greater community into action). That said, I don't think a truncated version of the original story probably would be too effective as it taking a year to finish was instrumental to giving you the time to care about the extended cast and it was tied up in thematic game mechanics including the global raid battle final boss.

But that's me having played the game. Curious what you thought! (You don't have to write three paragraphs back like I did unless you want to haha, I've never gotten to talk about it with someone lol)

I think that’s the thing, I didn’t play the game and I was lost on why the story was playing out like it did. I also thought the pacing was breakneck with all the girls being introduced and I got somewhat overwhelmed. I can’t even remember most of their names!

It's not traditional animation (more stop motion-y), but Rilakkuma and Kaoru is fantastic and very easy to watch!
