Shame about Dai reviews, guess I'll have to watch some footage to decide whether this is something I'll get on a deep discount or ignore it altogether.

Eh, Famitsu liked it and anything famitsu likes, I like too. I love "dumb fun" slasher games and there are not many out there nowadays, I'll get what I find.

Nah, Dai still got bad score from famitsu (31/40) especially compared to its rival Fate Samurai Remnant (that shit got 36!). One thing I like about Famitsu is their reviews are not over dramatic like "this shit is TURD! Stay away!". If there's fun that can be had in the game, they say so.

Longtime games critic Jeff Gerstmann spoke about Famitsu reviews on a podcast recently. He’s been covering games since the 90’s (and I’ve been reading and listening to him for about as long lol) and said (I’m paraphrasing) that Famitsu scores, to him, were worthless, because they’re often conversing with the publishers during the review/editing process. I can find the clip of him talking about this for you shortly, but the short version is that Famitsu reviews are, in essence, an extension of a game’s marketing cycle and should hold no actual critical value.

Edit: found it. NSFW language warning. Video should be timestamped but if it doesn’t work, go to 1:52:04

If that's really the case, I recommend Compile Heart to have a talk with Famitsu reviewers. They do NOT like CH's games. (they're ok imo)

8 Pro, actually. Cause in the US that one comes with a "preorder bonus" in form of the Pixel Watch 2.

So if that offer also happens to be in the german Google store, i'm getting that one.

If not, regular 8.

No matter who is or will be CEO of SQEX, Kawazu has dirt on them.

Kawazu has dirt on the whole company.

Sigh that’s a shame
I'm a huge fan of the anime, so I'll give it a shot but... fucking hell, I thought we'd be able to leave the Infinity Trash memes behind for gods sake.
Yup, it’s a bummer since it was even retooled. Guess Fate is the big one from this month I’m waiting for a sale on

Gotta say, i am actually interested in Fate/Samurai. And i have never played a Fate game before.

One of the funniest things about Rygar is how everyone pronounces "Diskarmor" like "dis karmer"

I think nothing will ever beat the "Engrish" localization of Gargoyle's Quest on the Gameboy.

Lil' me didn't even notice how bad it was because at the time i played this, i wasn't able to speak or read english at all.
But then, years later ... holy heck hahaha.

If Google Translate would've been a thing back then, this would've produced as less bad translation. ^^

I think the magical girls were just from not guessing the correct date and time for the Direct, not sure what the purple abominations stand for
I see, thanks.
These are from incorrectly betting that Prime 4 would be in the Direct

it obviously wasn't
Phew, thank God I wasn't around, then. I was absolutely certain that Prime 4 would appear on the last Direct, I would have lost the bet and right now I would be Paul McGann-less (fate worse than death right there).

Life without Paul McGann is feasible but not worthwhile.

Really? Man, how is that allowed for a journalism outlet?
From the sounds of things, that's just "how it's done" in Japan. Later in that clip I posted, Jeff talked about interviewing some Soul Caliber developer in Japan and then after the review, a Namco PR person was like "Okay, you can send that over to me whenever for us to edit before you post it."

So you mean i wouldn't be able to fully get the game without knowing about the rest of the series?
Oh sorry, it’s just a fandom joke where we caution newbies to the franchise about getting into Fate because there is a lot of lore to unpack. But I think Samurai should be perfectly understandable even if you haven’t played anything Fate before.

Shady. I might have to read up more about that. But a review culture like that is borderline worthless.

Me; I hope I win this Orbit books sweepstakes!
Also me; I don't know when I'm going to read all these books if I win this Orbit books sweepstakes!

It was interesting to hear about his experience in that interview and as someone who deals with both types (though not in games journalism), I couldn't really tell you which one I prefer. Some interviews were improved by "corrections" whereas others were made worse, to the point where we ultimately decided against publishing it. Though not everyone can afford to do that, obviously.

I found that depending on the interviewee and the topic I prefer the other party to take a look at it first. It puts them at ease during the interview when they know that they can read it before it's been published and you get more natural responses. Especially when dealing with company representatives this can be quite helpful. I've also had cases where someone regretted what they said after it was published and I had the paper trail to show that they agreed to it, sparing me a ton of time and headaches.

But yeah, it's a pretty tricky topic and some PR peeps definitely like to overreach. I prefer to circumvent them altogether lol.

I still need to watch some fate first but it’s on my sale shortlist

SR should be perfectly understandable without the rest of the context. The original story is about a specific “Holy Grail War” and SR is about a different one with different (and returning) characters. Thing is the returning characters usually don’t have any memory of their other appearances.

For some reason I thought that Rygar was underrated and panned at release but apparently the PS2 version has an 83 Metascore. Must have confused it with the Wii "remake" (52 MC lol)

Can't believe Netflix dropped that Tomb Raider anime trailer without a single spoken line of dialogue from Lara. The breathing sounded good though!

I've heard good stuff and I actually gave it a try but bounced off pretty quickly just because I wasn't in the mood and then life got in the way. Would you say that it's a good starting point for Tokunoobs?
I’ve been watching KR Fourze (as my first KR) and it’s great. The currently airing Ultraman Blazar is excellent, on YouTube and dubbed in English! Highly recommended.

Yep, for sure. Especially if you’re familiar with Urobuchi’s other works, it’ll feel familiar while introducing you to Rider’s whole deal
