A Totally On Time Question!

Weekly Question #3:

What’s your favorite video game moment that wasn't Nintendo?
Hmm, probably the portal reveal for the true ending of Jak &Daxter even despite the sequel having mixed execution on what it turned out. Alternatively the true final story to sonic adventure

The entirety of the Half Life 2 era i.e from the pre-launch hype to the end of Episode 2. To this day it’s such a masterclass in “there’s story in this game and it’s good and immersive but without being overbearing or getting in the way of the amazing gameplay” that I wish more AAA cinematic games of today would copy. It’s such a special place in time that may never be replicated.

What’s your favorite video game moment that wasn't Nintendo?
When I finally beat I Wanna Be The Guy.

When I randomly joined a Tekken 5 tournament in the arcade and made it to finals.

When I dedicated an entire week to The World Ends With You with my high school buddies, fervently discussing pin strats and the crazy story developments.

There’s a lot!

This is incredibly difficult, but to name a few:

- The moment and journey after when “I Believe” kicks in in Persona 5 Royal

- At the end of Bastion when you slowly carry Zulf through the hordes of enemy archers, and the enemies gradually stop attacking you. Goosebumps.

- I’m tempted to say literally all of Chrono Trigger but that’s a cop out so I’ll pick “Mine name is Glenn!” up through that following boss fight and plot twist

- Even accounting for recency bias, I legitimately think the entire ending sequence of A Space for the Unbound deserves to be here. One of the most beautiful endings to a game I’ve ever experienced and has stayed razor sharp in my memory ever since.

Knights of the Old Republic I: When the true identity of your player character is revealed. "What do you mean, I am Revan? That's so cool... I mean terrifying"

The absolute, ruthless and relentless tornado of feels that is NieR:Automata's endgame.

I'm never prepared for it.

That's actually incorrect, you can die at any time

In Germany, we have a saying: "Unkraut vergeht nicht."

Which broadly translates to: "Weed (not that one you hippies!) doesn't fade away."

So of course, i always believe in a long life for everyone! ;D

Also, it's still technically correct. You could die at any time. But you could also die at any time in a year!

FREEDOM! My work crunch is finally over! Even though I'm not the one doing the grind myself, the stress from crunch for a producer is crazy. I'm seriously impressed by the people I worked with for what I need to get them to do.

Never again!

So says the producer till he receives another important make-or-break offer that results in crunch next month

The final boss battle at the end of Yakuza (Kiwami) 2, maybe. Great and emotional fight against an adversary that you understand and respect.

Alan Wake 2 will be FINE

furiously huffes copium
It'll be fine when it's released on the launch day of Switch 2. Launch titles of highly anticipated consoles usually sell like crazy. That overpriced scam release of Ultra Street Fighter II had sold 800.000 in just 2 months.

Just recently gotten into Final Fantasy 14 and holy cow I love this game.

I'm a level 35 Paladin who's grinding levels in Armory and Mining. Just a super chill time.

Also helps that I'm playing with my partner and our best friend.

Man, i kinda want Armored Core 6 ... but i'm not done with Pikmin. And playing Vampire Survivors ...

I didn't know the PS5 tells you what percentage of the main story you have completed, at least it does for FF16 when viewing the game's page on the home screen. I kind of wish I didn't see it. It says I'm over 50% done and I feel like there's a lot of story the game still needs to squeeze in the remaining amount of time.

Man, the new TMNT movie got super screwed in my city. Barely any screenings, only a few in English, all of them in small theatres.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that because the movie rocks. A bit too reliant on pop culture references (which is still acceptable given that the Turtles are 15 years old lmao) but everything else is great! Just caught it Sunday.

Yeah, it really sucks. I'm happy for the success of Barbie and Oppie but they're practically sucking the air out of every other mainstream release here.

I was thinking I'd get one of these cheap movie tickets for this weekend, but there's nothing I really want to see. There's a place near me showing Oldboy, but only for another couple of days, and I'm not gonna be able to get out there. There's a Regal a little ways out of the way, maybe I could see the reshowing of American Graffiti, or the wife will bend my arm until we finally watch the Mario movie

Hey all. We're nearing the recording of Episode 3 of Famiboards Discussion Club, and it's question posting time!
We're currently planning on this episode to be more of an all-round one, focusing on a potential upcoming Direct, news regarding Charles Martinet, and more. Feel free to post questions you would like to see us cover on the episode.

That’s easily the game I’ve spent the most time on. I’ve had an active subscription for the better part of the last 10 years

Destiny 2: The Final Shape showcase in 20 minutes. People have been pretty down on the game but you can always count on Bungie to deliver a hype trailer and presentation.

One of these days I’ll break down and finally play it. It’s been on my list of “I should really play this eventually, someday” for such a long time now

An old friend of mine absolutely swears by that game. Agrees with me on pretty much all the FF hate I dish out about the post-Sakaguchi era, and insists XIV feels better than any other FF release since the PS2.

Also, Sakaguchi himself loves it and posts a bunch of his own screenshots on twitter. 😅

Glad it's clicking for you!
