News Elon Musk and the End of Twitter

Yeah, a situation in which you can pick the featureset/policies you want but not be completely walled off is a pretty good one, not sure how it'll work out with Threads. It's Meta, wouldn't surprise me if they attempt to Embrace Extend Extinguish.

You can follow people on Threads, incidentally, there's just no follower-only feed. Their posts show up in the single algorithmic feed it currently has.
Ooh okay, I misunderstood with the whole no follower-only feed then. Still, funny that you'd need an outside service to be able to have a follower-only feed then haha.

threads is genuinely monumentally worse than current Twitter by a LOT

I signed up last night, used it for 5 minutes, and was so appalled by its algorithmic nightmare home screen that I deactivated my account and deleted the app

It's also worse because it looks terrible, I can't believe Instagram could get even blander.

All this entire thing has made for me is to finally get me to give Mastodon a serious try.

I've found an instance I really like full of queer shitposting and I've already had more fun than in a decade of birdsite.

Threads seems even more awful than I already expected from a Zuck project. Bar at the floor and they still tripped over it.

Obviously none of these websites are gonna be founded by good people but BlueSky seems to be gaining more of the cool posters as opposed to just banal brand-posting.

Zuckerberg is the man who helped Trump into power, enabled Brexit and all sorts of shit. He's just another scumbag who wants all your data and all the money at any cost.

Musk is doing a bit right? There has to be some deal in place between him and Zuckerburg were they compete who becomes the biggest troll. I mean live as billionaire must be really boring when you have nothing to care anymore, so why not fuck up the internet even more. This is too stupid to even care at this point.

I can't get Threads to work anywhere, whether it be the actual site being blank or embeds being broken wherever they're enabled. And considering what I've heard about it, I don't think I'll even consider using it anytime soon. I'm not keen on giving data to Facebook if I can help it.

I'm just gonna wait until Bluesky opens the floodgates or I get an invite. Maybe join a Mastodon instance in the meantime.

Twitter feels like its the worst its ever been. Stuff breaks all the time, Elon is constantly saying dumb crap and people are incredibly mean spirited towards each other.
I know I've said before that I (mercifully) didn't notice a difference because of how tightly I curate my twitter feed, but lately I've been noticing the ads are almost entirely far-right conspiracy shit designed to look like "news" or "science" reports. So yeah. Mark me down as finally having a shittier twitter experience as well.

I stopped using Twitter DMs when Musk took over, but still awful news.

They are limiting daily DM use for non Twitter Blue accounts if you can’t see the embed.

oh god he's changing the name of twitter to "X" with a new logo that looks like it came from a cologne bottle

that's the stupidest wannabe 2000's edgy cishet male bullshit I can think of

I'd share the link but I don't wanna embed anything from his actual account

For better or worse, everyone knows what Twitter is, everyone knows the bird logo and the lingo associated with Twitter.

So of course Elon's ditching that for something meaningless and generic, but a 12 year old would think is super cool.
