(If anyone is interested in embracing some existential dread of having recently turned 30, I have a playlist I'm slowly growing but it should also come with a host of trigger warnings/a personal note that I promise I'm in a good place)

I turned thirty today.

And it’s fucking terrifying.

But nobody is taking my EDM away from me.

I might be raving in my living room with my two-year-old but we will be raving.

A) Happy birthday! Much as I want to believe I'm just 28 round 3...yeah, there's no escaping it lol

B) Godspeed, and rage, rage against the dying of the night

(Actually the playlist is a mix of emo pop, emo rock, emo rap, and emo synthwave. The lyrics bely the otherwise cheerful, high BPM and catchy melodies haha)

2021 racing games that give you the Raw Thrills: Cruis'n Blast
2021 racing games that DON'T give you the Raw Thrills: every single other racing game

I can't handle my thrills raw anymore. I need them processed a little bit.

First off, happy birthday! And second, being way past 30 I can tell you there's nothing on this side to be afraid of. Joints get a little sassier but that's about it.

Happy 30th!

It gets easier to cope with the faster they come, because you don't get time to ponder it. You just start to go, "Thirty five? But I just turned thirty.. eh whatever, oh look here comes forty."

It didn't even occur to me how fucking pointless the "Content Creator of the Year" award was until someone else pointed it out recently. I probably didn't notice last year because I actually quite like Valkyrae lol

They did not nominate Tim Rogers so I didn't even bother voting on that one.

Happy birthday! This is the best birthday week, clearly, although I’m probably a bit biased

Maybe I'm jaded but I feel the content creators who end up winning TGAs (if they're not openly shitheels at the time of nomination) have something blow up in the following months that just lends a certain toxic air to even holding the award.

Also a possibility I'm looking for confirmation bias that gamers are the worst

Tim Rogers is someone I'm glad exists and makes the content he does, but I never want to watch it

I'm glad Jason Kelley and Ozioma Akagha are being recognized in the performance category, but it's honestly a shame they can't both win. Their banter in Deathloop was honestly a pretty big part of the experience for me. On the other hand, I do not agree with that game getting a nom for Best Narrative. That game needed either more narrative i.e. (very minor spoilers, depending on your threshold for what counts as a spoiler) actually explaining the various timeline mysteries they established, or less narrative i.e. not having those mysteries in the first place and just having the game be a fun time loop game.

To be honest, even the nominees who aren't shitty people often confuse me with their nomination. I know a lot of this is me having different tastes to the majority of Twitch viewers, but often my opinion of the nominees is "they seem nice, and their content is fine, but honestly not that great, and it's weird to me that they're getting one of five nominations out of thousands upon thousands of content creators"

My biggest double take was Alanah Pearce, I feel like she's barely a content creator

I went to double check to see if my beliefs held any water, but it seems most of them were just in years past when it's fans voting for Dr Disrespect, Boogie, Pewdiepie and Ninja, but that was at least three years ago at the latest it seems. So, gamers as a whole remain the worst for choosing precisely what's worst for them 🙃

Yeah, I remember thinking Alanah Pearce, good for her, but...

Maybe it's just me not being in tune with Twitch culture and just reading the articles of whatever the latest drama is going there.

Dream is the strangest "content creator of the year" inclusion imo. Didn't he have a huge scandal recently where it was found out he cheated on a Minecraft speed run or some shit?? Lmao
AFAIK he tried to claim he just got lucky, but I remember someone claimed to do the math and found his 'luck' would have been basically statistically impossible. Don't know enough about Minecraft or the speedrun to say for sure, though

For me, the other weird thing about Dream getting a nom is him not showing his face. Seems a little strange to me to nominate someone whose identity you don't even know

And then they found out he was a trump supporter in the past I think, the whole story with him is wild

content creator of the year (like every Game Awards category) is literally just a popularity contest and should hold zero weight

like I enjoy the awards on the whole but the actual awards??? whatever

I think the last Activision game I bought was the Spyro Trilogy which I got for like $20. Before that I think it was Overwatch on PC in 2016. It's fairly easy to avoid Activision games nowadays considering they only do COD and whatever Blizzard is doing. I did play Black Ops 3 when it was on PS Plus and I COD Infinite Warfare which I got for $5 used.

Jerma is content creator of the year.

For those that don't know, Jeremy "Jerma" Elbertson is a Twitch variety streamer who is known for pushing the envelope in the Twitch space. Earlier this year he orchestrated a live Sims-like streaming event in which he was part of a cast in a house set and viewers "played" The Sims live. It was an incredibly ambitious project that is only one among other strange and inventive initiatives this year.

It should have been Jerma.

I bought a pair of Purple/Orange Joy Cons not that long ago and the purple one‘s analog stick creaks like mad when I move around while playing a game. To the point where it’s noticeable with volume on too!

I have to admit I don't know who any of the creators are. I don't watch twitch and I don't enjoy just watching people play games. I'm more into historical or informative videos. I'd rather learn about the history of the game, how it was made, that kind of stuff. I'm more into stuff like Matt McMuscles or Stop Skeletons From Fighting. St1ka, Top Hat Gaming Man and Sega Lord X are high up my list too. The real winner though is Joe from Gamesack, and that is just for his after video skits he does. That's the good stuff right there. #BringbackDave

I love watching St1ka and Sega Lord X. I also love the chronological trio of Dr. Sparkle (Chrontendo), Jeremy Parish (Video Works,) and Kevin Bunch (The Atari Archive).

Good choices. I view “content” as actually making something rather than streaming but admit I am way out of the mainstream on what a content creator is considered. I couldn’t even tell you a twitch streamer off hand. But these awards are mostly an influencer marketing ploy, so I don’t expect critical analysis to be out front and center versus people that will get eyeballs on things.

I mean, there are worse scandals in gaming these days, the bar has moved pretty far. 😅 (though yeah, cheating when going for a record is not zesty)

I think the only gaming-related content creator I paid attention to in the past few years is Lara6683, and musicians probably don't count. I'd love to see her do something at the TGAs, though, just because she deserves that sort of visibility.

I thought they were sony franchises as a kid, I was confused when I found out they actually were not
they were always owned by Universal Interactive, which was merged and dissolved into many different branches until ending on Activision's hands.

Sony only published and funded the early titles of each franchise; In fact, they didn't even own Naughty Dog as a studio until the PS2 days, and Insomniac they only purchased recently;

The flaw with 'Content Creator of the Year' is that they are recognizing creators with millions of followers. Why not showcase up & coming content creators that don't have a following north of 1m? All they are doing is rewarding those that are already at the peak of the 'Content Creator' mountain. Give those climbing the mountain some attention. Not those that are already at the top.

It's also flawed when creators like Digital Foundry, as an example, are not nominated. What does one have to create to be nominated?

Nate is so pissed that he wasn't nominated for Content Creator of the Year that he's going to leak all of the world premieres on Twitter before the show starts.

RE: Japanese City Pop

So, many years ago a friend introduced me to Sparkle.

Originally recorded by Japanese Funk Artist Tatsuro Yamashita in 1982

It was then covered in English by a Hawaiian jazz group called Greenwood in 1985 (who with a minor resurgence of popularity for this song finally convinced them to release their debut album featuring this song some nearly twenty years later)

And I learned as of 20 minutes ago that this song has an homage in ACNH, under the K.K. Slider secret song called 'Hazure02' that you won't get a bootleg of and make a typo in requesting a song. It definitely has influences, along with some other Japanese city pop songs according to the comments section of this video

E: oh no, bottom of the page :'(

Yeah, Sony wasn't planning on owning actual franchises themselves in the first years of Playstation. That was a bad decision, one of their first party franchises ended up on rival platform: WipeOut 64.

I wonder if Rocket: Robot on Wheels (by Sucker Punch) is now out of reach for a re-release on NSO; Sony retroactively should be the copyright owner of that game now that they own Sucker Punch.

Real missed opportunity at TGA is the lack of a Scumbag of the Year Award. The 'winner' gets fired out of a cannon into the sea, and is also fired from their current job.

I'm coming for you, Kotick.
