I’m new to Fire Emblem, only played Three Houses and Engage, but I did a double take and legit thought they were bringing Fire Emblem to Xbox with that Metaphor game. Did FE people work on the game (I didn’t recognize the names they mentioned)

They were confirmed to come to switch?
Nope, nor were they confirmed to come to PS. They're probably gonna be confirmed by Atlus after 2 days or so like the P3-P5 ports last year.

They're definitely coming to Switch tho(P3R and P5T, because Overwatch II is on Switch already), and the leaks pointed to that.

Square's obvious absence from Xbox made me think: do they actually have anything announced for this year after FF16 besides the DQ spinoff? There's Foamstars, but I don't think that was given a window.

That and Level-5 needing to date their games feels like something is happening before the end of the month, whether that be a regular direct or partner showcase.

Maybe Square Enix actually did launch all their games between September last year and February this year...

(There's also no Nintendo-published timed exclusive from Square Enix for Switch this year, yet)

We'll get our annual announcements from Asano and Kawazu next week

Front Mission 2 remake is still due out this year at some point as well

Fami never changes when comes to "waiting on reassurance from Nate"
Let's watch the Xbox Showcase first, after all... things for Nintendo Switch should also coming from this presentation
Hmmm... okay. It seems you know your stuff about Directs..

I can see the similarities with FE. But no, Sojima (mostly done Atlus games) has an art style than can be similar to FE.

The last 5 FE games have brought external artist to help out with the designs so at some point an artist style might appear similar.

So those Banjo-Kazooie rumors from last year just went nowhere, huh?
Just because they haven't shown it off doesn't mean it isn't real. Unless the rumor was "new BK nearly completely and ready to be shown/released soon", a new BK started around the time of that rumor probably isn't launching until 2026-2027.

I'm surprised we didn't get a new Team Asano game announcement during the Spring Direct. An irrational part of me is assuming the reason why is because their shifting development in preparation for the Switch 2.

More fuel for the Direct hypetrain?

Wish we could move discussions away from ranking and framing everything in regards to the better, best, and worst. Always makes discussing games so reductive and to prop up your favorite you frequently throw others under the bus in the process (the if it's not the best it's the worst stuff). Mario, DK, and Celeste all do cool different things. We can have preferences without tearing the others down. Same deal with discussing the games within a franchise like pitting all of the DK games against each other. I'm glad we have seven cool main DK platformers, plus a bunch of other cool games beyond them.
Liking or disliking the games is obviously subjective, but for the time being I understand even less the idea of trying to put Topical Freeze and Celeste in competition as they are in fact totally different propositions. Personally, I think both games are wonderful, and I absolutely understand why you might not like either or both of them, but it makes no sense to put them in competition with each other in my opinion.

Like intoxicate said, I feel a lot more in control playing Mario games. Yes, this is at least in part because Mario games, especially the more recent ones, tend to be easier, and because of my own bias having spent a lot more time playing Mario than either of the other two, but Mario games have a lot of strengths (level design, power-ups, movement) that I feel are overlooked because of an oversaturation of a single style of 2D Mario, and the 3D games skewing in a similar direction around the same time.
You're probably right to talk about saturation, and I say that as someone who absolutely loves Mario. However, it's very interesting that you talk about level design, because it's certainly on this point that I find Tropical Freeze to be a masterpiece, and it's also on this point that I found NSMBU a little too generic, which explains my excitement and impatience for a new 2D Mario that would be more creative and modern.

You realize Don Draper is in the wrong in this scene, right?
Yes, but his facial expression pleases me.
Also, for a group that doesn't think about Team September, ya'll certainly love to post about them.
This is the only Team September joke post, though?

I think it's fitting there's no talk on that front, though. If you don't expect a Direct till September, no point in spending 3 months speculating!

I feel like, short of saying "Nintendo are definitely doing a June Direct", Nate has indicated that's what he expects. But I also don't blame him for not making definitive statements yet because of how often that stuff is taken out of context and becomes the source of arguments.

All he has to do is make the predictions video, probably this week, and release it just after the announcement that probably comes the following week.

I'm not even Team September. I'm Team "We Don't Have Enough Information to Go Off Of Right Now So I Have No Team". I'm basically anti-anyone-with-strong-convictions here.

If nothing gets announced this week I’ll get a little antsy but I can’t imagine they’re gonna do twitter drops for their post-Pikmin 4 games

the internet is a funny place, we like to argue about when a company will reveal its latest reel of advertisements to the point that some of us get deeply offended and start butchering people’s character because the company didn’t give us the advertisement reel we so desperately crave.

you could literally replace "September" with "June" and "June" with "Everyone Else"

that world map could mean:
  • open world... something
  • international release of a region specific game
  • Wind Waker (oceans)
  • Tomodachi World

Has there been a showcase announcement I’ve missed?
No, a bunch of us have convinced (or deluded, ymmv) ourselves that the Direct will be sometime next week.

Could be that, or they don't have anything ready to show since they just released Octopath II simultaneously across 4 platforms.
