Interesting that there doesn't seem to be much discussion about another possibility: no June Direct, but Nintendo announces a smaller-ish game like F-Zero at the Summer Keighleys, releasing in August/September and bridging the gap between now and a September Direct.
I could believe that.

It's always possible that they're a surprise but they weren't on the publisher list they shared already.

Seems like Nintendo is more into the Game Awards than SGF.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 4!

I don't know if a substantial July/August direct would make much sense considering how close that is to the September direct which is more often a staple of the year (partially due to its association with TGS). Unless they then just skipped September.

If Nintendo was planning to present something at Keigh3, they'd probably have been on the publisher list that already went out. No point hiding it.

  • Imagine you are Koizumi
  • hosting Directs ever since Switch era 2017
  • you are hosting a June Direct, finally announcing a new Mario game
  • but it's 2D Mario game and not the one you have been doing for years
  • He just reads the teleprompter and says "EPD10 shipped another 2D Mario game since 2019 and we need to wait for new hardware? sigh

Nintendo will save the next 3D Mario for Switch sucessor, this 2D Mario and hopefully Metroid Prime 4 are gonna be the fall/holiday games for this year

A new DK themed attraction will be available next year which will also be the 30th anniversary of DKC. Nintendo would be crazy not to reveal a new game to coincide the grand opening. While I don't remember Mario getting anything for it's grand opening, DK has been sitting dry for 9 years with no new installments. They can get away with it with Mario, but for DK they have to get it in gear if they want people to excited for the big ape again in time for the attraction.

I still want platinum games star fox…but you know, not with awful motion controls and with the style and bombast of vanquish or bayonetta

THANK YOU

I was so hyped for Zero, but I never could beat the game thanks to those awful motion controls. And I tried so many times.

...So we aren't expecting a Direct because last year proved that we are not owed a June Direct, and part of the reason there was no June Direct last year, or at least part of the reason the Partner Showcase wasn't earlier in the month was because Nintendo wanted to separate themselves from Game Fest. So it makes perfect sense for them to go to Game Fest this year, but not with a Direct, just with a single game reveal.

You guys are really just running in circles trying to think of things that'll happen "just because" just because we don't have any definitive proof of what Nintendo's doing this Summer.

Nate how many copies of Super Mario Sunshine do I have to ceremonially incinerate for you to grace us with teases and leaks again back in ye days of olde?

every time you miss leaks think about the hundreds of hardworking people who probably hated having information about their work disseminated

that's what I do and it's worked pretty well

That is actually true
The thing is I'm just impatient about this stuff, like things are coming that's inevitable but it's the wait and the not knowing

This is definitely true. I don't miss leaks at all, but I do miss when we knew about big events a ways in advance. I really miss E3 being that 'anchor' event that we knew, 100%, we were getting a Nintendo show and news. Especially with a company where you never really know when you're getting anything, that was always big to have on the horizon.

The wait for Directs would be more bearable if they were announced two to three weeks in advance instead of a day or two prior and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.

E3 Directs were typically the best because they usually were announced months in advance and we didn't have to stress about timing; it was always more fun to speculate potential games

I have always thought this. If Nintendo did it that way, like Microsoft or Sony often do, and it's announced weeks or even months in advance sometimes, it wouldn't be as bad. Just having that knowledge that yeah, it's coming.

This is why Nintendo ditching traditional E3 conferences back in 2013, and E3 ultimately dying, was a bad thing. Having a consistent schedule and announcements, from everyone, was a wonderful thing that people took for granted. Now everyone is a loose canon and it results in unnecessarily long gaps.

Maybe its a flimsy observation on my part but it seems that if an event is announced weeks before hand, the expectation is elevated (E3 directs have present big announcements). In addition these shows like to present games that are years away and Nintendo has stepped away from that.

Every direct, at least for first party, the games announced have a 2-6 month release window on average, Prime 4 and ToTK were exceptions. Maybe for the reveal of Drake they might do an announcement weeks in advance but I do not see them changing course. At least imo.

I would not be surprised if a random time on July 10th we get an announcement of a direct the next day lol.

I’m glad this thread is picking up again with announcement season upon us. Looking forward to PlayStation on Wednesday and Xbox and Nintendo in June. Metroid Prime 4, 2D Mario, and Mario Kart Wave 5 are the stuff I’m most hyped to see right now.

Mario 3D All-Stars also had references to Pikmin back in 2020, however I don't think it was related at all, due to how it used prefix and Pikmin 4 was in development at that time either way.

Star Fox to me makes a bigger sense as a middle to end life release on a console. It was refferenced in Switch Sports, yes but it does not mean it will be made at EPD4, I actually think it's impossible given what stuff they are producing. It does not line up very well with what they are doing.

Emily said that in December 2019, and I quote:
What I meant is Nintendo recently did some prototypes/demos with Star Fox. I doubt those demos will turn into a game, but you never know. My point was that Nintendo wasn’t giving up on Star Fox. Internally, they’re still experimenting with ideas and concepts. Star Fox is in the same camp as Pikmin. They’re two IPs that Miyamoto won’t let go (I say that as a positive thing).”

Yugo Hayashi was Star Fox Zero Director, he then moved to work on Super Mario Run, ARMS and latest on Mario Kart Tour. He was also part of the "Star Fox Team" in Star Link credits. So is EPD9 the most likely group to take over Star Fox? But I assume he was credited in Star Link just because of his ties to Star Fox as EPD9 is working on new Mario Kart either way. If DK can be back internally at EPD why can't Star Fox be too? There were these ideas that Ubisoft should make a Star Fox game and if that happens some day, then Nintendo is in deep trouble.

I don't think future for Star Fox looks to bright now however, Imamura already retired, Miyamoto is (was) busy with other stuff like theme parks, movie and Pikmin (yes, he is not that much involved in development anymore but he is the one who will be pushing for this project more). Not to mention that Tadashi Sugiyama (Star Fox Zero producer) was not credited on anything since Tank Troopers in 2016 so is likely that he left the company.

But probably in like 2025-6 we could see something, and hey there is always Star Fox Grand Prix.

I think they should at least put a remaster out there, i mean both Assult and Adventure will probably recieve better results now than in the Gamcube

the fact that Arms didn't get a sequel despite having one of the best character designs in Nintendo history is astounding
