You shouldn’t have reminded me of this, I’m already having way too much fun
Exactly this. Everyone is saying Twitter drops for years but they have no idea that it was due to COVID and only EPD4 games like Game Builder Garage, Brain Training or Ring Fit are revealed like that, nothing else."Twitter drop" "Twitter drop" "Twitter drop" they all scream
But what was the last first party retail twitter drop? Origami King...? Even Bayo Origins got a reveal, just not by Nintendo.
May it is then!free your minds from the shackles of June
First of all, thanks for the update.True.
I will add that I have not heard anything about any impending Direct.
How dare you! /jkI will add that I have not heard anything about any impending Direct.
I think they can die if E3 is truly dead and Nintendo just continues to not look at Summer Games Fest in a light similar to E3. It could also just be that the Switch is at an interesting point right now and Nintendo is tweaking some of their marketing strats. Then once the next system comes out they are back to "normal" and we don't have to speculate if there will be a June direct.Apropos of nothing, I believe the general Directs will be twice a year now (Feb/March and August/September). The June Direct is dead.
not stricly related to the topic, but are you and MVG planning some video predictions for the summer events like Playstation Showcase, Xbox Showcase etc?True.
I will add that I have not heard anything about any impending Direct.
Everybody Guess (I feel like it wouldn't be posessive fsr) sounds like it could be a real title of a strange EPD4 game thoHad a dream about the next Direct:
- Miyamoto and Aonuma host from within a box fort made out of pop vinyl figure boxes
- Luigi's Mansion HD from Next Level Games. Every screen of the game has a GameCube logo watermark in it.
- Everybody's Guess. This is some sort of Mii based quiz game/life sim.
- Tears of the Kingdom DLC: Kass's Quest comes this summer, with the bigger Second Quest following this winter (I've manifested this idea so much I'm dreaming about it)
First of all, thanks for the update.
Second, if I may ask: correct me if I'm wrong, but the timing you / others hear about a Direct happening greatily varies from one Direct to another. In the sense that you got the first hints of a Direct happening in late June back in April (going by the other post) but IIRC this is more of an exception and there have been times when you received the first rumblings of a Direct much closer to its airing date.
We'll have a Sony predictions episode on Monday morning. We'll do an Xbox predictions episode when it gets more near.not stricly related to the topic, but are you and MVG planning some video predictions for the summer events like Playstation Showcase, Xbox Showcase etc?
That's not how this works.
I posted that over a week ago. How about leaving it alone instead of bringing it up seven pages later for no apparent reason? Can you engage instead of giving vague dickish comments
My b, it's where I left offI posted that over a week ago. How about leaving it alone instead of bringing it up seven pages later for no apparent reason?
Imagine having the best Direct ever and calling it a mini...Direct Mini or whatever you like to name it with...
- Everybodys 1 2 Switch (June, shadowdropped)
- F-Zero GX Remaster (September)
- Metroid Prime 4 (November)
- New 2D Mario (October)
- DLC of current titles
- Third party announcements
I imagine everyone should be more or less pleased with these.
As the days/weeks pass by and you possibly hear about something Nintendo Direct related, will you also do a Direct predictions video? Furthermore, are you going to withhold said video when it becomes clear what sort of presentation it's going to be if it does come to fruition? (ex: cutting out first party predictions if it's a Partner Showcase, etc.)We'll have a Sony predictions episode on Monday morning. We'll do an Xbox predictions episode when it gets more near.
Nintendo doesn't really announce new games on Twitter. The only exceptions are 2020 and certain types of games that are either very small or not super aligned with the Direct audience. They certainly wouldn't do it for a big end of year game.DLC trailers + one new end of year game will be Twitter reveals in June/July is my guess.
Yeah, nice summary. The thing is that Mini Direct never had a new EPD release in it, highly unlikely that they would announce new EPD10 game here, or MP4 as you said. Direct Mini is also shadowdropped (or at least was until now) so another reason to say that a goodbye. Even with 2D Mario, MP4, some smaller eShop games, 3rd party and DLC for 8 Deluxe and Splatoon they have a solid Direct. People need to remember that the last Direct had exactly 0 new games announcements from Nintendo, or how September 2019 Direct only major announcement was XenoblaDE from Monolith, other was just recap of AC news, SNES Online, Fighter Pass 2 + Terry and bunch of reminders for existing games, that was that Direct that even started with Overwatch lol.Y'all need to accept they ain't Twitter dropping a 2D Mario trailer, or the first trailer of Metroid Prime 4 (it has to happen some time), they ain't shadowdropping the F-Zero remaster, and they ain't waiting for September to make announcements.
Every single year of the Switch's life they've had first party games in September, October and November (2017 didn't because it had Odyssey at the tail end of October and Xeno 2 in December 1st).
They won't shadowdrop the September game or announce it two weeks before release because whatever it is, it's not a limited release of 3D Mario remasters and it's not 2020, they won't announce the October and November games in September because again they don't have to and September Direct is mostly new information on those games and H1 next year announcements.
To me the absolute worst case scenario is Mini Direct in July just before Pikmin 4, with Super Mario 2D Next as the main holiday game being the only major new game announcement, with a couple of remasters, and later a casual game is announced via Twitter, so that H2 looks like: September has F-Zero port, October has the casual game and November has 2D Mario.
But I think that's highly unlikely. 2D Mario looks like the most likely major holiday game, and they don't really need anything of they are releasing a 20M+ selling game in October or November, but I mean look at 2021, Pokémon didn't prevent Mario Party and Metroid Dread from happening, nor last year where we had Pokémon, Splatoon and Bayonetta.
I think 2D Mario as the major holiday game, maybe a casual game that surprisingly gets in the 10m territory, niche remasters and a surprise game that both appeals to core audiences and sells well(MP4 if we're really lucky).
Nintendo patterns are liable to change at any moment and they themselves have mentioned they're in uncharted territory, it wouldn't surprise me tbhNintendo doesn't really announce new games on Twitter. The only exceptions are 2020 and certain types of games that are either very small or not super aligned with the Direct audience. They certainly wouldn't do it for a big end of year game.
You're not one of the people I was replying to. You weren't even involved in the conversation. You want to call me out the day I make the post? Fine. I understand that it was a little bit rude. But throwing me a stray over a week later is unnecessary and a bit of a dick move.My b, it's where I left off
Unless you have concrete proof in front of their plans in front of you you'll never be 100% of what Nintendo is going to do.I mean, I for one think telling people that something isn't "how this works" is both condescending and inaccurate when no one can say with any certainty what Nintendo will do with no E3 but almost no forthcoming games.

That isn't the point though? I don't understand the need to bring it up now. The subject has been dropped. How would you feel if I randomly quoted a earlier post of yours and called it stupid?I mean, I for one think telling people that something isn't "how this works" is both condescending and inaccurate when no one can say with any certainty what Nintendo will do with no E3 but almost no forthcoming games.
This is so true. Remember when 2020 was strictly because of COVID and there was no chance they'd skip June again?Unless you have concrete proof in front of their plans in front of you you'll never be 100% of what Nintendo is going to do.
Go ahead. I'll eagerly atone for my mistakes. That isn't the point though? I don't understand the need to bring it up now. The subject has been dropped. How would you feel if I randomly quoted a earlier post of yours and called it stupid?
This is a bit of a mischaracterisation, though, isn't it?This is so true. Remember when 2020 was strictly because of COVID and there was no chance they'd skip June again?
I see what you're saying, but Nintendo itself did skip June last year. You make a salient point to be made about Nintendo Directs now being about the state of the Nintendo Switch platform rather than just the state of Nintendo, but with E3 cancelled and a previously packed schedule Nintendo took the opportunity to save some announcements for September. This is a bit of a mischaracterisation, though, isn't it?
I mean, I get it; we're in Direct speculation territory and often that simply means "general Direct with first party news", but last June still had a Direct, and it was pretty full of stuff, but it was third party only. Equally, June 2020 still had stuff like Smash and Pokemon Presents if I remember rightly. What's especially overlooked, I think, is that Directs - whether Partner Showcases or the regular format - remain Nintendo's preferred method of communicating software announcements. That has even been the case in the pandemic and last June, when they've used the Partner Showcase Direct format.
No, it wasn't the Direct many of us were looking for, but it's inaccurate to then say "Nintendo skipped June". It's why we get these predictions that Nintendo are going to pivot to one off game announcements on Twitter, or go months without announcing anything.
that's a fair point lolWith last September having the infamous farming direct, I often wonder what the hell it would have ended up looking like if Nintendo had most of those bigger announcements at E3 2022 instead.
Right - but ultimately it's Nintendo choosing to do the Partner Showcase. They're coordinating that, which is what I mean by 'not skipping June', and I think that's something that should be taken into account when thinking about the approach they take this year.I see what you're saying, but Nintendo itself did skip June last year. What I find especially interesting is that we're almost in the reverse of last year: last summer the third party lineup needed clarification while first party was functionally complete, while this year the third party lineup seems pretty solid following the February Direct (as well as some independent announcements) and the first party lineup is a big mystery. As such, part of me hopes for the slower-paced first party "Developer Direct" of my dreams, featuring Tezuka talking about their vision for 2D Mario and Miyamoto gushing about Pikmin 4, but I of course recognize thiat isn't realistic.Right - but ultimately it's Nintendo choosing to do the Partner Showcase. Yeah, this is the context that makes me think first party news is still the likeliest scenario. Maybe there is a change in format or approach coming, which is why there's not that much smoke. But then thinking back to February, I think we got close to the Direct itself before anyone in the know was willing to say it was happening. And that particular Direct, like September before it, was also one of the predictable ones where quite a few people had guessed the right window for it.What I find especially interesting is that we're almost in the reverse of last year: last summer the third party lineup needed clarification while first party was functionally complete, while this year the third party lineup seems pretty solid following the February Direct (as well as some independent announcements) and the first party lineup is a big mystery. Splatoon 3 had its DLC revealed 5 months after the game came out, tbh I can see somewhat of a similar pattern here, even tho I think the first teaser of TotK DLC in June, with release timing being similar. I can see it being 4 waves like FE and Xenoblade, with the last wave being the story expansion that works like a standalone game and releasing by late summer or fall 2024(tbh I hope that's the case, but Wave 1 this holiday and Wave 2 in spring 2024 being all we get is more likely).wonder if they announce TOTK DLC whenever the next direct is, seems likely if it's the same amount of content as BOTW's DLC. but if it's much bigger than what BOTW gave I could see it being a while before an announcement
MK8 Deluxe is updated with TotK Link skin, BCP Wave 5 has Samus(with Zero Suit alt), Zelda(TP, BotW, TotK alta) and Pauline (DK and Mayor alts) as the playable characters .They will show update to MK8Deluxe with TotK Link.
Yeah, they've had way more barren Directs lol. I'm sure 2D Mario announcement alone would make them call a general Direct. TotK DLC even. They've started Directs with Monster Hunter DLC and Overwatch, not to mention many times where they started and ended on Smash DLC, Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition being the only new game announcement and ending a Direct...Yeah, nice summary. The thing is that Mini Direct never had a new EPD release in it, highly unlikely that they would announce new EPD10 game here, or MP4 as you said. We are nearing the Switch's end that's for sure but we are still not there yet, new hardware is not coming this year and they still have plenty of games for this Switch, we will see it June. August? Too close to September. July? Too close to Pikmin, altough early July could work too. But it's June 14/15th for more obvious reasons.
It's pretty apparent that new 2D Mario will be more shown at Gamescom, with EPD members themselves, like Tezuka.
The thing is I think it is conceivable to think that Nintendo could wait until September to announce a remaster for later that month along with the rest of the lineup. Does that seem likely? Uhhhhh honestly as someone who doesn't believe in a general for June, no. I can't quite believe that without an issue lmao. Something goes off in my head as saying that doesn't make sense. I also think Pikmin 4 is a wild card. Are they just going to post a youtube video showing gameplay and the new things coming to it? Or is it going to be a major part of a direct. I don't know so I can't rule out some kind of first party focused direct. This is a bit of a mischaracterisation, though, isn't it?

I don't think so. I think a lot of us just see pretty much every Nintendo game not named Mario Party getting DLC. Plus BoTW got DLC. It's more of, uh, we expect it. Although I have no clue what they'll do if it does happen lmfao.Catch me up: is there any specific evidence that Zelda will get DLC? With the nature of its development creatively and the absence of any purchase disclaimer on its shop listing I had hoped it wouldn't see any.
