did I somehow miss the Amazon CE pre-orders? I could've sworn there used to be a (disabled) button for it on the game's page, but now it's gone

Anyone mentioned this? The shrine-line icons on the map are the swirly egg things now confirmed, the symbol resembles the actual thing.

Well they're definitely shrines then, that's the nail in that proverbial coffin

As someone who's not really expecting them to drift aesthetics between shrines, hopefully these ones have a look as great as the Shiekah aesthetic. Don't fail me now Zonai

I wouldn't be so sure. One thing clearly speaking against it is that the shrine symbol has a cut out door crevice which makes it look more like they have a normal entrance.

I was doing so good, having fun with the games Im currently playing, then this presentation shows up.. and now I barely want to play them games and just go back to Hyrule.

Curse you Aonuma

I wonder if bombs have been replaced by the fuse power. Ultrahand replaces Magnesis, bringing over the telekinesis ability but applying it over a wider ranger of objects and adding the ability to attach these objects. Today's footage only showed three of at least four powers, so I suppose bombs could be a fourth, but in the way Ultrahand makes Magnesis a bit redundant, if you can fuse any two objectives you can presumably apply an explosive attribute to anything—in fact, we can see that in the last trailer. edit: Wait, no, I forgot about recall. That's 4 abilities.

This Zonai cannon can be dropped anywhere there's a puzzle that requires a bomb the way that bombflowers are used. You could also probably fuse, like, acidic monster guts with chu jelly or something.

Do we think the sky islands have any unique names like shrines? I know Aonuma said that "we are calling these sky islands" but I would not rule out any concrete naming just yet altough when he arrived at one of these, name of it didn't pop up but there are so many of these that they are probably not named then.

Something interesting is that the Recall ability is the only ability to use kanji as well as not using the green arm energy but golden light instead. All the other abilities have icons like you would expect. The totk collectors addition comes with 4 pins with one of the pins being visible and looking similar in style to the icon used for Recall. So maybe there’s a whole subset of abilities that use kanji and golden light? Maybe for the green arm abilities you get all of them at the start but the golden light abilities you acquire as you progress, or vice versa.

there will be many abilities. 4 Kanji and at least 4 icon ones. The 4th icon one we know of is the stone bird, with the feet instead of ultra hand. You can barely see it on video but here's the bird.

Hey...imagine fighting a Lynel with a super long fused pole-spear. Scary shit.

edit: Also, if you look at the game footage, you can transition to a dive anytime from you glider, even over "normal ground". It doesn't have to be when you're skydiving skydiving.

If Zelda isn't playable, I'm going to end up being pretty disappointed with Nintendo not going with Link having gender options or being canonically non-binary.

Not a massive deal, but wish one of these things would happen.

Graphics don't look great, but I'm very enthused by the gameplay options shown here.

These look like giant size fans to me, and we get a closer look at them as Link lands on one of them, similar to the ones we would use as updrafts in some of the Shrines in BOTW. We hypothesized awhile back that maybe some of the Sky Islands can move and we would be putting them back together. So crazy thought of the day, maybe we simply rotate the fans to actually move this sky island. If you look up at the islands above as Link is riding up the on the rock, it does seem this particular sky island would fit nicely into the one above it, so kind of like a giant jigsaw puzzle.

how does link get the caveman outfit? is that our link or the link from many thousands of years ago? do we swap between the two links with some time travel shenanigans?

yeah it looks like they have octagonal screws holding them together. Wonder if we can disassemble them and make our own structures?

Seriously tho, I have no idea what is for. Maybe so you could better spot stables when you are jumping from the sky?

Yeah, it's probably so you don't miss Stables when exploring. I imagine that the unique puffs of smoke will let you know where a stable is, as opposed to a house with smoke coming from its chimney.

All of the weapon attachments/fusions they showed were cool, but the boulder stick fusion looked like something the BoTW modding community made with a beer in one hand.

Yeah it looked a little goofy unfortunately because the animation has zero extra weight to it. Looks like a theater prop. Would have made a lot more sense if it turned it into a two handed weapon.

Boulder breaks apart and a relatively small piece of it fuses to the stick and becomes a 2h weapon, yep.

lmao not sure I’d be shocked at this stage
Just look at the art book. Like at this point I'm about to start spoiling it for people.

I fully respect your opinion but I've never understood why some feel like the series needs a gender option of some sort. The discussion has always felt forced. I'd like to play as Zelda because Zelda is cool, I don't think it needs to happen tho.

Nah. We’ll just keep writhing in pain and complaining until Nintendo does any marketing worth a damn.
I mean it's needlessly pessimistic to assume that the shrines will look the same as BOTW and have the same theme. I won't spoil too much, but no that's obviously, as if it needed to be confirmed anyways, not the case. It's possible the new theme may be overused like the previous theme but we can't determine that yet.

I didn’t write some long winded Nintendo is doomed post. It was a small shitpost, albeit somewhat exaggerated, and to be frank it’s entirely on Nintendo that I felt it was appropriate. The mood in this thread is not all that positive, but we shouldn’t need to have seen the leak or use imagination and faith to sell ourselves on this product.

27:31 on is a interesting take on this direction for promoting the game.

and I think some here and other threads may relate to it in a sense.

Function over form is the right call imo. If you like using a 1H weapon fusing it to something new and it becoming 2H would be annoying.

It's frustrating to see people want more info but then shy away from said info for fear of being spoiled. Some of what's been shown in the art book I imagine likely will be seen before launch, not all of it, but I wouldn't say all of it's so spoiler heavy that it's something they're gonna avoid like the plague. That said however a lot of it is also just genuinely really damn cool and is stuff I personally wouldn't want to see before first getting to experience it first in the game, so there's this weird dichotomy of knowing the game has a whole lot more to offer and being frustrated by people pessimistically assuming it doesn't vs also whole heartedly understanding why Nintendo doesn't want to go ham and reveal a ton about this game.

Could they show off a bit more? I guess? But also I'm not sure why'd you want them to. A big part of the game is gonna be rediscovery, and each thing they show off that's different is one less thing you'll get to discover on your own. This game realistically was always gonna have marketing like this, it's not like something changed or went wrong, it's a game built off of a previous game, to make it engaging is the element of rediscovery. We're not nor were we ever likely to, get BOTW level marketing which existed to sell the new form of Zelda.

I don't think it's putting form over function. Fusing is about experimenting with changing your weapon. It's logical that fusing a weapon to something that huge would result in a much harder to wield item. The player would quickly learn this and know what to expect.

But the mechanic is fine as is, it was just a suggestion. The animation issue could be fixed simply by making the rock a bit smaller, and it would look just fine. Either way, it's not a huge deal, just noticed it looked off.

Link's arm is the monado confimrd

Ok so I'm going nuts thinking about the potential in underground areas.

Imagine if you go through a cave and eventually come across a newly established camp of Hylian explorers who are trying to make a base of operations to explore further. There could be already established Zonai railways that Link can then free-build a train for, complete with a storage compartment, setting out on the tracks to find special resources the explorers need to build up their new town.

Probably going overboard I know... but imagine.

My initial thought was when Link hit the water they didn't show anything underneath the water so no underwater exploration. But Link usually needs some kind of Armour or item to go underwater. Also when he hits the water the altitude meter coordinate stops at 8, so that means the depth of the water should be around 8 ft or meters depending on the metric used. So when Link travels into caves and underground, I'm wondering if the altitude meter will change to negative or will just remain at 0.
It also was a river and not a Lake or the Sea that he jumps into. I have always thought that if we do get underwater exploration it would be limited to deep lakes or the Sea. I'm on the fence still and leaning towards not getting underwater exploration now, but we really don't have enough information to say one way or the other IMO.

@ZeldaPY

Thinking about it, but every single Zelda game has had a item that's needed to be found to swim underwater/swim at all.

-Zelda 1 & 2 no swimming at all
-ALttP, Link's Awakening, Minish Cap, ALBW, and the Oracle games have the flippers.
-The N64 games have basic swimming but underwater stuff requires extra items like the Zora scale to dive deeper, the Zora Armor/Iron Boot combo, or the Zora Mask.
-Twilight Princess has basic swimming but only allowed diving with the Zora Armor.
-Skyward Sword again had basic swimming but diving was only accomplishmed through the water dragon scale.

Like every game requires something extra to swim underwater so I actually wouldn't be surprised if we do get something like that in TOTK. Otherwise I don't really get the point in adding water to the Sky Islands.

Might just be Hopium on my end but I really hope they have some hidden suit or something that lets us swim.

I agree it's likely we would need something to swim. But as for water being on the sky islands, it can be used as an obstacle just like it was in botw. We see it working that way in the video, need to cross the river, build a boat.

BOTW had the Zora armor that helped make water traversal easier (plus swimming up waterfalls was so badass), so yeah I could definitely see some item or armor or something letting us dive underwater.
