Spoiler The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Pre-Release Spoiler Discussion Thread (Tag Story Spoilers)

As was said previously, having the artbook leaked isn't really that huge deal but when the street date for this game is broken, which will be like 7-10 days before launch, that's the time to turn off everything and just wait to play it.
I haven't even thought about "the final week" until now. This is honestly going to be rough. Not even game files leaks that will likely happen, but the whole inevitable "influencers' coverage" thing. I am not the most patient person of them all and such approach ruined my experience with god knows how many titles in last couple of years.

Yeah that whole period is going to be a giant pain

I wish I also had a way to break the street date lol

I've stupidly agreed to do a professional thing the weekend the game comes out, so I'll miss launch weekend. Boo.

Welcome to the loser zone.
I think we are slowly gaining in popularity! I felt, before the leak, that a good way for the Marketing department to keep the hype for this game going would have been to release a piece of new art work every few days after the last trailer. We just happened to get it all in a leak, that’s how I’m viewing it. We have been doing the Marketing for this game all along as far as trying to keep the hype going. If I had to guess I would say it’s at least 50/50 now on who’s seen the Art book.

And after seeing it, it’s not that hard to surmise what the last trailer will probably look like in my opinion. It will probably play out similar to the Switch reveal and last trailer in 2017 for BotW. Some story info with more context, intro to new characters, lots of cool combat scenes, flashes of new places to visit etc. I would put money on it that we hear a young Impa giving us the story background either at the beginning or middle of the trailer as well.

Gotta be honest if I had early access to the game I'd
Rush through it as fast as I can
Only so I'd be able to tease things about it
On Famiboards. I wouldn't outwardly
Spoil people but hide small hints
Everywhere and then come release
I would quote myself and
Show people what was under their noses all along
Brining my elaborate plot to
A majestic end. Just to prove that while I
Could have spoiled Tears of the
Kingdom for them, I didn't.

(I can hardly imagine Rauru sitting on a throne with the amount of hair he got though)

he went super saiyan 5

Has anyone seen translations of the japanese text that are particularly interesting other than the name of dragon/bunny/goat/saiyin guy? I think most of it might be boring but I’d bet there’s at least a tidbit or two.

Smh you had a golden opportunity for "groose is loose"

Fish with transparent skin and the second photo is supposed to show that its organs glow in the dark. Not sure if that says anything at all about underwater stuff, but still cool.

Looks like a nest with eggs in it? Pictures hanging on the walls look important in that concept art.

Zonai wall tapestry probably reused throughout the game for lots of generic Zonai architecture. This is interesting because the above looks like its essentially deteriotated to its fundamental materials and carvings while the below is a fresher version where the paint and polish isn't gone yet (think of the Pyramids of Giza and their deteriorated appearance now vs how they originally looked like). Some more fuel for the time travel theories.

I took a few notes with the (Google) Lens of Truth, nothing I think as big as Rauru's name but still interesting. More to find still.

Hm there's some interesting stuff there

Confirming another large aerial enemy that we've seen no hint of besides this wing is nice, as is the existence of weapons that can switch from one to two handed (especially if we can stick weapon parts on them). Oil pots are a pretty solid and intuitive addition (actually were they already in BoTW? Feel like they should've been).

There's a lot of musical stuff in the artbook, I wonder if a music mechanic is in again.

And of course, can't wait to bomb some Dongos

Awesome, thanks!

Oil pots are interesting. I do wonder if that could break flame-based puzzles if you can craft and store a lot of them.

“Refinery” could relate to the enemy mining and the spotlit towers. It does seem like Ganondorf’s minions are more industrialized this time around. Pulling a Saruman vs Ents kind of vibe.

I keep noticing details every time I skim through this book.

In case the camels and sand seal art weren't indicative enough

Gerudo temple fo' sho'

Could we get a 'tear' from every tribe?

Gerudo, Rito, Zora, Goron, Sheikah, ... Korok?, Hylian / Zonai? That would make 7. Or the remaining 2 don't have to line up with a tribe.

Hopefully my eyes aren't deceiving me. They look way smaller than I anticipated if so.

"Armor designed for stealth, passed down through the Sheikah tribe" is mentioned in the description of the Chest Guard from BotW. In Creating A Champion the dev comments also mentioned that the set was worn by Sheikah Warriors, which by the time of BotW didn't exist anymore.

It's the same building only upclose. The fauna surrounding it looks quite different in the second one.

If you zoom in on the background you can spot some stuff like red flags but also this:
PM 05:30? English time?

Anyway, that's everything of interest I've found (and haven't seen mentioned anywhere) when I went over it a couple of days ago. Also, shoutout to the great photo quality provided by the leaker.

Looks like the Sheikah Slate weather and temperature gauges.
The fact that "concept art" would have that.... Uhhh

Kinda suggests much of this isn't concept art at all, just screenshots that have been stylized and edited. Kinda hilarious if true.

Good catch, how the hell did that end up on a concept art ?
Also the layout seems a bit different. temperature gauge is higher and there is enough room for 4 weather icons.

Now that people mention it, there's aliasing all over the place on that page. WTF?

(I could tell by the aliasing 🤭)

Some are a mix of concept art composited onto 3D renders, like the water temple art. It's fascinating to see work in progress.

Honestly didn't even think about the aliasing, it looked natural and expected to me for some reason.

Yeah, lots of "concept art" here is a screenshot from the game with the thing that is in the forefront drawn artwork.

Yeah, i thought that at the start, but it also makes sense, taking screenshots of places where they would want something to be, and letting the concept artist draw something over it.
The game, after all, is reusing the map and setting stuff into it.

... a new weather state maybe? story? (strong wind)

New weather state: It's raining monsters

I love opening up this thread and scrolling very quickly past everything to get the smell of hype without spoiling myself

thank u <3

I can't believe this is the first time we've seen the hud in the game haha.

Wasn't sure at first, but it's the same structure as in the trailer. Down to the trees, small pillars and patterns in the road. Hm.

Rewatched the 1:1 comparison and analysis vids - for sure the Great Plateau.

Ah I didn't realize people couldn't tell there were 3D models and environments in the art book. The same is true for the BotW Creating a Champion book for a variety of locations, so I wouldn't draw any assumptions from that. Game development isn't perfectly linear and all that. Nice eye catching the HUD, though.

Well the many hands began to scan around for the Great Plateau
Some said it was Labrynna and some said Holodrum
Some decided it was nowhere except for where they stood
But those were all just guesses, wouldn't help you if they could

The thing that stumps me by far the most.

I think that segment from the trailer (when the choir comes in) is completely misleading. It at first seems like it is only decipting the castle rising/aftermath of the 2019 trailer but there are mainly three things shown there:

a) a "normal" blood moon rise similar to BotW
b) a cutscene decipting the event seen on the mural from the art book where Ganon is directing his troops with the blood moon above them (the moon's size is way bigger here)
c) the castle rising

There are a few other scenes like whomever is exploding there and what looks like something around Death Mountain falling apart, but that's what how I make sense of all of it.

Gotta be honest if I had early access to the game I'd probably
Rush through it as fast as I can
Only so I'd be able to tease things about it
On Famiboards. I wouldn't outwardly
Spoil people but hide small hints
Everywhere and then come release
I would quote myself and
Show people what was under their noses all along
Brining my elaborate plot to
A majestic end. Just to prove that while I
Could have spoiled Tears of the
Kingdom for them, I didn't.
I'm doing this for like three things right now

jk

Now that we have caves and this Zonai research group, I would like to have some form of collectibles as rewards for exploring.

Finding the 20th weapon of the same kind or some arrows gets boring. Koroks were nice and fun but I would prefer more unique things.

Maybe little Zonai figures or other archaelogical artifacts that you dig up with your shovel (that is shown in the artbook).
And you can put them in a display case at your home.

I would just wish to be banned before the game is released. To tempting.

been doing some science just need to get it peer reviewed before i can publish
hm... did you try to reduce complexity with skalars?
2*BotW + 2*SS + MC = TotK

(two times Botw because its the base, SS because sky, flying, and the timeshifts stones, would take Ages away and works, since it fits the theory of selective time travel), and MC for the mole mits and the size stuff + another sky temple thing)

Not necessarily, it could just be a flashback cutscene.
I was thinking the same, like this is the beginning of calamity ganon’s revenge that was showcased in AoC of Ganon’s malice taking over the guardians.

Probably worth noting that all of them are directed by Fujibayashi
Ironically, his 2D entries where good games that i really can't go pack to because the overworld feels to restrictive, kinda like a big dungeon where the other dungeons reside.
SS brought that to the forefront, since its the first 3D zelda that took that design, and BotW is then the freeest zelda ever, after that design did not work in 3D. But i liked his takes on expanding the zelda world (minish, 2 new lands with a ton of new characters and mechanics, and he brought 3 out of 6 antagonists to the series (i count ganon, demise and ganondorf as 1 here).

Meaning, i really hope he brings this aspect of his games back into the game after BotW was so... "basic" in its world, it essentially reused most of zelda lore, but set it in the NEW context. That was fine for a reinvention of the series.
