Spoiler The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Pre-Release Spoiler Discussion Thread (Tag Story Spoilers)

I think the cable drum and the new shiekah slate are a way for Link and Zelda to communicate. Both of them have it and maybe the cable is used for connection
That's what I was thinking, it's meant to be a contextual way to hand off control from one to the other or something. It can travel deep underground through those tiny malice thread holes maybe?

Hereā€™s the pic of Link and the size of him

It really feels like they are gonna just stuff this game to the absolute gills and make the 6 years really worth the wait - I need to find the willpower to bow out if/when more stuff leaks

The teasing of
Minish might be the most exciting thing I have seen so far.

Maybe these Mushroom people are the Minish (didn't read the whole thread, some people might have stated that already)?
Would fit with the picture of small link and the mushroom next to it.

Holy Crap just noticed this, where the heck is Link in this shot! This is definitely Zelda, and she seems to be alone and alive, just saying...
cavw-zelda.jpg
Link is in the picture, but heā€™s
sitting on Zeldaā€™s shoulder
i.e. heā€™s minish sized
Iā€™m kidding :p
maybeā€¦

Lets make a recap of the glyphs:

1.-Zonai Princess
2.-Pirate Sword
3.-Sheika Slate
4.-Master Sword
5.-Temple (the one from the 1st trailer)
6.-Scorpion
7.-Prehispanic Ghost
8.-Camel
9.-Giant
10.-Serpent
11.-???

Been thinking about some of the pictures and how I just canā€™t make heads or tails about like, 80% of the things in the book. So many mysterious new characters and locations that I canā€™t wait to find out more about.

Itā€™s funny to me that this is the sixth time Iā€™m walking away from TotK-related stuff with more questions than answers.

2019: Ooh, BotW2 is happening! Where are they? Who is that? I hope thereā€™s a proper trailer later that answers some of these questions.
2021: Ooh, a new teaser! What is he doing? Whatā€™s going on? I hope thereā€™s a proper trailer later that answers some of these questions.
2022: Aww, delay announcement. Whatā€™s that? Whatā€™s happening? I hope thereā€™s a proper trailer later that answers some of these questions.
2022: Ooh, a title reveal trailer! What are those? What is that? I hope thereā€™s a proper trailer later that answers some of these questions.
2023: Ooh, another trailer! Whatā€™s happening here? Whatā€™s that over there? Seriously though, where are all the dang answers?!
2023: Shit, artbook leak. Who is that and what is that and where is that and when is that and how is that just give me May 12th already
Amazing when a artbook leak provides people with a ton of things to speculate about. Then we play the game and have to go back to the art book for answers! Lol

What do people think? @ZeldaPY @Serif and others

One of the glyphs sort of looks like a camel lying down which matches the camel imagery in the temple I posted.

However, as you pointed out one of the glyphs is a Shiekah Slate. Not only that... it's a glyph of the new Nintendo Sheikah Slate. That is really throwing me off, what is that doing in ancient Zonai Ruins? lol

My guess is maybe 7 temples for 7 tears, 11 glyphs representing large 'overworld quests' (like shrine quests in BotW but ramped up to 11). I say "quests" instead of straightforward 'temples' cause these glyphs are so strange and different from each other, lol. Two swords, a man kneeling in prayer, a big monster, a tablet, a temple, etc.

The thought of 11 dungeons in a game as big as this with some being missable feels odd, but not impossible.

(Also is there an actual rule about what to put in spoiler tags?)

This feels so packed with different things I'm having trouble understanding how it could all be connected sufficiently. I'm a bit worried the final game might be a bit unfocused.

Iā€™m coming around on the stuff in the book. I wish there was a definitive answer on dungeons still though and I do worry the sky islands and ruins will look to lo similar.

It's just Purah throwing a Lan party because she didn't want to add splitscreen in her game.

in the main thread, the moderator said that this thread would be a TotK spoiler thread, but I would love if this thread could allow full spoilers for the artbook but not further full late game spoilers if/when they emerge later - I know itā€™s hard to manage

I don't really know what else these unique themed interiors could be, besides temples that evoke pre-BotW dungeons. The way these places are, doesn't seem like Link is just there for sight-seeing lol

Not sure if I will soon regret looking at all the artwork or not. Wouldn't have been able to dodge it until release anyway.

Some really cool concepts in there. May can't come soon enough.

What's wonderful that I've noticed is that despite how distinct and varied a lot of these locations look, the Zonai imagery persists. Whether it's Lotus buds or twisted spirals. They are underground, in the sky, and on the surface. They will be what ties everything together.

I wonder if the Zonai will get a new name or not - and were the Zonai a civilisation of multiple races? (witchdoctor cat Rauru and strawberry Sky Zelda)

also looks like the new fire temple might be some sort of forge

Ok, time for some theorising!

Regarding the map of Hyrule seen from the sky and possible dungeons:

So there seem to be 11 light glyph images on the map and depicted in the alcoves on the temple wall - do these represent dungeons? and if there are only seven tears, as is repeatedly depicted, does this mean:

-the glyphs actually donā€™t represent dungeons in the game
-they do and you only need to complete any 7 out of 11 dungeons to fix the master sword? and beat the game
-the tears arenā€™t actually found in the dungeons

So do you all think these dungeons will be underground, below the glyphs?
Or maybe in the past, temples stood where the glyphs are located - and we can summon them from the past and transform the map.
They could also be located at the top of a series of sky islands above each glyph.
or maybe a mix of these options.

the map seems to depict an ancient pre-Hylian Hyrule
also one of these glyphs seems to show the new Sheikah slate

What do people think? @ZeldaPY @Serif and otherse
I think you are on the right track, Iā€™m still trying absorb all the information in the book, I like your theory that the map depicts an ancient Hyrule and that all of the geo-glyphs we have seen lighted up on the surface also are depicted here on the map. It falls inline to me with each geo-glyph representing a God and then having a corresponding temple in the sky as a way to locate each one of these Temples from the map more so then them being underground based on the Devine nature of what we have seen from the sky.

The Shinto religion, has a Devine Spirit (Kami) or god for everything, in fact there are over 8 million of them which represents infinity in traditional Japanese culture. There are coincidently 7 Gods of fortune or 7 lucky Gods which are celebrated as a new years tradition in Japan. Iā€™m not saying this what the tears represent, but I did find it fascinating in my research I did awhile back. Plus it seems like this game has taken influences from so many different religions and cultures both past and present, that it is almost impossible to infer what we are seeing without context and a proper understanding of what specifically the developers were influenced by at the time of making each area we are seeing in the Art work.

I just have a strong suspicion we are going to spending a lot of time in this room and Iā€™m super excited. I have posted a lot in the other thread on how we are going to be able to find things using a map in a three tier system and orientate ourselves so itā€™s not so confusing, I never thought in a million years of them possibly implementing a mini 3 dimensional depiction of Hyrule to solve part of this problem.

Side note as I was looking at this map room in the Art book and writing this, this image kept popping into my head:
maproom.jpg

Something's funky with how different certain sections of the map look. Seem like the "transformation" of Hyrule will be quite substantial - the question is: how will they frame it narratively? Overlapping dimensions? Time jump (besides the small one we already seem to have)?

Iā€™m really just spitballing here but maybe it would be more helpful for us to think of ~Zonai~ as a time period with some aesthetic consistence across different races, some of which were allies.

Maybe there were 7 ā€˜Zonaiā€™ sages involved in sealing Ganondorf (7 tears) but they each came from a different race of people united under one Zonai kingdom (Zyrule šŸ˜‰)

The Zonai tribe seem to be alive and well and have massive ears compared to Hylians which may be a hint of their ancestry. But have they been living concurrently and just hiding in the cloud barrier, are they in the past and Link is entering a past dimension, or were they forcibly dragged to the present?

And why've they got a wall carving of the Nintendo Sheikah Slate with Hyrule Rumble in a room with a map of 'ancient' Hyrule?

Also I am glad they are leaning into all of the visual origins of the Zonai, the Mesoamerican / Classical Greco-Roman / Japanese Shinto vibes are everywhere. And that's helping create a lot of variety in the look of Zonai architecture.

I wonder if the Zonai will get a new name or not - and were the Zonai a civilisation of multiple races? (witchdoctor cat Rauru and strawberry Sky Zelda)

I think the zonai are the men with those white marks on their skin. Rauru looks more like a Zonai god. Maybe it's my perception but I see a strong egyptian inspiration in his clothing and we know that most of the egyptian gods were represented with animal features

Yeah I am very likely just getting carried away by that tantalising possibility
I don't think it is far fetched that Nintendo would give us 11 dungeons and you only have to complete a certain amount, like 7.
Would mix each playthrough up quite a lot.
But what would happen if you do the others anyway?
Just an empty treasure chest with no vial? Or a message that you leave it there because you are already good? :D

What happens if you do less than 7?
I am pretty sure that they again will allow us to beat the endboss very early in the game.
In this case I wonder so much more how they might do that.
Do the vials allow you to power some contraptions that reduce health of the final boss similar to the titans - or is the mechanic completely different?

In short, I am very interested in how the progression through the game will work.
BotW was very reduced. After you reached Kakariko you had two main missions. Go to the four titans and/or fight Calamity Ganon.
TotK seems to have more going on, although dungeons aren't even confirmed yet :) .

Yeah I really wonder how the vials (which are really disk or coin holders), tears, dungeons and sky islands relate to one another, which I imagine will become clearer when we get some gameplay and interviews before launch

The vials with the coins/disk is very confusing. Also, did you guys see a small key. I saw it mentioned, but I mightā€™ve overlooked it

11 dungeons with only 7 being mandatory I could see. I want to know about the small keys though. I kind of hope you can still have some dungeons with some closed off areas needing a key.

BotW had small keys in shrines.

There was a green Zonai small key in the artwork for sure

This was one of biggest surprises for me, and I think it will be for others as well who havenā€™t seen that particular picture, because we all just naturally assumed they were filled with some type of liquid. This is another example that makes me feel fine that I looked at all the art work because ā€ You see, itā€™s just another clue, and then there will be another one, and another one after that.ā€ Sorry just got done watching National Treasure again, I think Iā€™ve reached my movie quota references for the day.ā˜ŗļø

So we have a ship, sky islands and that underground space with blue soul fires... they put wind waker, twilight princess and skyward sword in a blender to get the ultimate zelda

this is not a Hinox tooth. Itā€™s bigger, thicker, and has 3 points instead of 2. Looks like thereā€™s going to be a new giant humanoid boss. Donā€™t think anything weā€™ve seen matches.

There was a thought the 40 disks are from 40 shrines. It doesnā€™t feel like something that would be on your hip though.
This was my thought. Instead of 120 shrines and 4 divine beasts we get 40 mini dungeons and 7 or 11 normal dungeons, and those disk are what you get from the former instead of spirit orbs. Once you get 5 you get an upgrade to the green energy/arm resource the same way you could update your stamina with 4 spirit orbs.

I imagine health would then be heart containers from the main dungeons and maybe the return of heart pieces.
