Okay, this is clearly getting revealed ahead of release and since it’s on the back of the box, maybe it’ll be shown first somewhere major like um idk, a Direct? And they aren’t dropping this plus the overview trailer a mere two weeks before launch.

Another big point for this week
maybe we'll get a few tweets this week? kirby new mode, maybe an octopath demo, updates for other games, etc

I think it comes down to Splatoon. if they want season 3 to be in a Direct they've scheduled it for the 15th or 16th, otherwise the above can go in a Direct this week. no clear reason to do it next week as far as I can tell

Which box art does everyone like better?
BotW (EU), the NA one is too bleak for me. And the cover of TotK have too much free space at the bottom (I understand that it was made this way in order to empathize the new verticality of the world traversal).

The EU one is so bizarre. I like the colors but it just does not make any sense with the context of the game. Why is he looking at the camera? The view is so awful for his body proportions too. I like TotK's a lot so far. I like ESRB BOTW the most, though. Shows the verticality, the epic nature of it, and shows the sunsets that are so prevalent in the game.

I have a feeling that a Nintendo Direct is imminent…call it a hunch, but this coming up Thursday sounds perfect. Announced tomorrow or Tuesday.

Just simply the feeling in the air.

The foreground leaves make me feel like Link caught me stalking him from up a tree
“Oh, hey, um, Link, uh, fancy meeting you here of all places, huh? Eh? Oh. Er, nothing much, just, you know, hanging out, collecting apples, catching Koroks, and stuff. How about choo?

Come again? What? Stalking you? Who, me? Nooooo. No, no, no, absolutely not, what gave you that idea?”

Yeah, it's much better.

On the other note, does anybody think that the TotK will have the connection to the Age of Calamity in some way (I mean the story, not some kind of the gamesave bonus)?
Doubt it honestly, but maybe something like a minor Terrako Easter egg, even though he isn’t in the world of BotW and TotK.

You shall now wake to a post.

I'm content watching the thread speculate & form various theories over why certain timing works better than others.

The only matter I grow tired of is the near daily YT videos saying a Direct is soon and how it started the first week of January.
It’s true. It’s hilarious seeing “Rumored February Direct” videos now that January is almost over.

Hey Nate, have you been watching, or have plans to watch The Last of Us TV show? Curious if that's been on your radar, whether you've played either of the games, and if so to either of the previous questions, how you're feeling about it so far.

As for a Direct, whenever it comes, I just want a Prime HD reveal finally. TotK feels like a given, so let's get one of these long-rumored games and some surprises.

January went from a certain thing citing random percentages, patents, ESRB ratings or literal nothings and now the shift to February starts since January nears its end.

I'm not subscribed to HBO at the moment. I've played both games and the TLOU Remake. I've been trying to obtain an Olly Moss The Last of Us art print for several years but the price is far too high for me. TLOU is one of my favorite franchises and will give the show a look at some point this year. May do a HBO Max free trial over the summer and binge the show.

This is the art print I want to one day own and frame:

Absolutely gorgeous, but yeah having looked up those prices oof that's a skyrocketed value.

Fingers crossed you can get one at a reasonable price; the show itself is already going to make prints like this even more valuable haha

This isn't really new information, (aside from the exact date), but it does raise a fairly Direct-relevant question: Why is the major SV update for Home so delayed that the battle data part is getting pushed out separately? This isn't like Legends/BDSP where there was a pretty obvious cause (BDSP being an unfinished dumpster fire by the same studio that maintains Home). This time, there doesn't seem to be a clear reason. One potential way to resolve that is that there's an emulated release that we don't know about yet, likely as part of an equally unannounced GB NSO.

Bottom left is the only one that looks genuinely great to me. EU BotW (the one I have) and TotK both look a little washed out and "placeholdery" to me.

The EU cover makes me think: why are we looking at Link from the perspective of a bird flying away? What's the story? Link likes eating bird roast? Is the bird a pervert? Same with TotK - what's he doing sitting there? Are his contact lenses acting up? The JPN/US cover tells a clear story: dude is amped and ready to walk or wind bomb that entire distance to the castle and wreck Pigma because he's determined as heck and might like pig roast.

We can’t claim to know why Nintendo does their directs when they do. Why February in particular? Why one week rather than the other? Well, other than considerations like not releasing the same week as a game of theirs, the only exceptions are when they coincide with E3 or TGS. I assure you, there is no way Nintendo approaches the airtime logistics of a direct with Splatoon updates of all things in mind. If that were the case, we WOULD have gotten a January Direct…. last Thursday, when they announced the new splatfest. Because that’s what they did in the last direct right??

The direct could happen as soon as this week, and most people here seem to believe it’ll be the following week. Splatoon will be there 100%.

Are you ready for the countless June/E3 Direct videos to start spawning everywhere mere weeks after the February Direct is over?

Nah. I think it’ll be something more true to DKC, but not it. But that’s the scariest part of this rumor for me is EPD doing it. I hope they do something similar to DKC because that’s peak platforming and why should we experiment with it???
I agree. Make something as good as DKC 2. Nothing will top that game. And bring back animal buddies. They were the best.

Next Direct is 45 minutes of Miyamoto and Koizumi eating these pizzas and then complaining about terrible indigestion.

Nintendo saw me about to order an Analogue Pocket and then decided it's time for GB NSO.

They can't seriously start it that early? They have TotK to exploit first. Or better yet, make predictions on Switch 2 based on Nintendo's raw materials numbers that come out next week ;)

i was thinking maybe this week we will get the announcement of that thing that leaked on the kirby game on the box cover
and probably the advance war trailer with a new date release ?

That Mario Movie clip during NFC had me thinking. And someone mentioned it here a few days ago. The Super Bowl is on Sunday 12th. Direct is definitely before that, no one can argue. Very likely next week. Does it mean that new full Mario Trailer is launching before that? Likely in the Direct? I don't see them dropping any TotK commercials at Super Bowl how they did with BOTW, they don't need to. It was only because Switch and not necessirally of Zelda game.

After tomorrow, If no announcement, we begin our last "reset the clock" ritual!

It's an invitation to adventure, looking back at the player. It's colorful and playful and in my opinion fits the tone of the game much better than the grey badass NA one.

BotW NA is one of my favourite box arts ever, as someone who lives in Europe I changed the region system settings on my Switch just so I could have it as the icon on my home menu instead lol. it represents the game perfectly in such a striking and artistic way

I don't have particularly strong feelings about the TotK boxart though I am kind of hoping it's just a placeholder because I know for a fact they can do better. the composition is super weak and the artwork itself isn't anything noteworthy

The half-time show is going to include the Direct. It's when we'll finally hear Rihanna's song for Pikmin 4, but the big surprise will be an original song from the Mario movie (it's called Coin Block and is performed by Charli XCX feat. Pabllo Vittar, Kacey Musgraves, Jay Park, Philip Glass and Saweetie).

I've always prefered the EU version (I have a poster in my bedroom, in fact), though I understand those who prefere the NA one. For me, the NA is beautiful but it gives me some kind of "generic badass hero looking at the horizon", while the composition and the colors of the EU cover represent much better the feelings and the calm tone of the game.

Is there a reason the direct can't be this week besides "patterns"?
A reliable journalist told us to not expect a direct this week, although he's not 100% sure. Look:

As I said on Discord, there is something that can conflict with Direct airing next week and this is the main reason that I doubt
However, Nintendo is impredictable nowadays and lock something to "impossible happening" is a mistake

Personally, I don't think that Direct will happen next week.
