Is that Teen Rating new for Metroid Prime 4? and doesnt that mean the ESRB had to actually have access to a build of the game

The ESRB doesn't get builds of games, they get video. It's up to the developer/publisher to accurately represent the game's typical content while also making sure not to "hide" any specific examples that might change the rating or descriptors.

The rating update did happen recently, but it's only on Best Buy's website. We have no way of knowing if it's just bullshit retailer listing info as usual, or if it has actually been rated by the ESRB and just not published yet. It's probably the former.

Darn knew it was too good to be true to have hope for a Nintendo Direct with TOTK and Metroid Prime 4, seems almost E3 worthy

Fuckin life advice yall

I used to hold this bitter position until SpiderVerse won. And now this year there are some pretty serious arthouse animated films in the running (Del Toro's Pinocchio has been carrying heavy buzz and Marcel is just too damn weird to not be noticed), plus with how damn good Puss in Boots was I wouldn't be surprised if they can collectively steal the thunder from Turning Red this year. I actually have faith for once.

That's the spirit!!

Are you suggesting this somehow isn't weirdly sexual..?

But the guy with the horse head tho
when HTTYD3 and Klaus lost to toy story 4 i immediately smashed this theory on the floor.

Does anyone else find it bit odd that Life is Strange 2 and now The Pathless are both launching on 2/2?

I took a trip to the eShop (after a Goldeneye session) and there they both were in the coming soon section. It just seems like a weird coincidence for both recently announced, rather large games to launch on the same day. A Thursday at that.

So I started to ponder.... And late night Skies came across a thought. We know a lot of third party developers are privy to Direct dates ahead of time. We know Directs bring a ton of eyes to Nintendo, and in turn the eShop. So what if... What if the date is already known behind close doors, and these publishers, who aren't a part of show, are pushing their titles out on a date (either on or right after) they know an influx of eyes is going to hit the eShop?

I took it a bit further, and decided to count the number of games releasing on each date. February 2nd now has 15 (!) eShop games in the coming soon section. No other date has close to even 10.

Call me crazy. Or call me tired. Probably a little bit of both. But now I am really feeling either the 1st or 2nd of February.

The coming soon section I believe pretty much always has everything scheduled to drop the following week aside from shadow drops of course. So like if you looked at it next week, the week of the 9th would then get a similarly high number.

Your big game theory is solid reasoning though iirc Nintendo helps set the dates for game releases. So it’s kinda right kinda not probably.

2/9 currently has 3 games in the coming soon section.

Are you saying there are more games currently scheduled for 2/9 in the database, but they just aren't showing since they give more space to the current week ahead?

Seems like a lot great animated films were released last year that I need to watch. I've only seen Turning Red, which was great, but I want to see how it stacks up with the rest.

GDT's Pinocchio has been sweeping the awards season so far though. If it wins the PGA for Animated Feature it's basically the lockiest lock for a win ever
Yes but the oscars have never paid attention to what other awards are doing. I still remember 2015 lol.

Yeah it’ll fill up come next week.

I see. I did not know that, but it makes sense.

Well maybe the bigger releases could mean something. Or even the opposite. Maybe Nintendo has an internal mandate that marks off Direct dates from other large publishers releases.

It was actually a wild year for feature animation. Two stop-motion films nominated for an Oscar. Two! And neither of them are Studio Laika! Laika is no longer the only game in town! Guillermo Del Toro got up on stage after winning the Golden Globe for Pinocchio and said "animation is cinema" into the microphone and *people applauded."

People fuckin forgot Disney even released their own Pinocchio last year. There isn't a single Disney Animation Studios film nominated. Not one. It's nuts.

Sabotaging it how? What happened?
They barely advertised it, and then also released it in the same month as the Black Panther sequel. People just did not even know this movie EXISTED. Little wonder why it bombed.

Once it actually got released to Disney+, people actually saw that it was quite good and were having watch parties. But to say Disney's first animated feature with a gay, biracial lead deserved FAR better is an understatement.

Is not only on best buy, there are more stores adding the esrb rating:

I'm getting to the point where I'm remembering that I need to manage my expectations, and that there's always that chance that I'll only care about a small handful of announcements.

I  do always try to remind myself that every announcement in a direct gets at least one person out there super hyped, though.

Just keeping my fingers crossed for a couple neat announcements, at least 🤞 which I'd like to think we're on track for.

Direct starts with Metroid Prime Remake trailer
Direct ends with Metroid Prime 4 teaser trailer
One more thing: first full Zelda trailer.

I hope they do a “just one more thing” this Direct. The last few IIRC they just said “this next announcement will be the last” or something like that, but that’s not nearly as much fun as a cheeky little smile and holding up a finger to say “oh, there’s one more thing to show you…”

A new Zelda ToTK trailer should be pretty much guaranteed, since it's releasing in May.

I wonder how good the trailer would have to be to make the Direct be satisfying enough for most people even if the rest of the Direct had absolutely no new announcements whatsoever.

yep, noticed that too. Last time they really did it was with TotK at E3 2019.

But Koizumi fakeout last Dorect was pretty funny.

They gave it bare minimum marketing. A ton of people didn’t know it released or that it was a Disney film. I think they threw it under the bus a bit too.

Oh okay I knew about the marketing not being strong but I don't remember positive buzz from people who did watch it so I was gonna doubt it woulda been nominated either way 😅

Didn't realize it found an audience once it hit streaming, and.. actually I didn't even know all that about the lead. Goes to show how trash the marketing was, huh? 🤣

Would rather they end with "Just seven more things..."
Ah yes, the Return of the King endings treatment. I wish that.

I was so extremely stressed out in that moment. The adrenaline during directs is so real.

I probably take these things too seriously, but that's part of the fun, I think. 😎
