February 15th, 3pm PST
Big Brain Academy 2 - Basically a DLC update but released as a whole new game. New puzzles and features not much added but at least has more variety. July 7th 2023

Advance Wars 1 + 2 - Will shadow drop on eShop same day with a demo, physical release will be April 7th, 2023, nearly 1 year after its original planned release date.

Tomodachi Life Switch - Uses same engine as Miitopia on switch with same level customization. Not much added besides new events, items, etc. May 19th 2023

Pokémon SV DLC - Expansion pass is announced. Includes 3 waves of content. Wave 1 will be new islands added off the eastern coast. 5 new Pokémon are added, and a handful of new water types from previous games are brought in. Pokémon Home compatibility is added in this update. Wave 2 is teased as being similar, but nothing shown off. Wave 3 is shown as ??? but will be Kalos. Wave 1 releases April 17th, Wave 3 given a release deadline by end of 2024.

Xenoblade 3 DLC - New Hero is shown off. Design is pretty much unchanged from the datamined image. New challenge mode stuff has references to Xenogears and Xenosaga (unshown in direct). Basically, just new fights added and costumes that reference characters from Xenoblade 1, 2, and X (i.e., similar color schemes and more obvious details such as Sena getting Brighid clothes). March 10th, 2023.

Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe - New minigames are shown off. Online multiplayer is confirmed for an update releasing in March, no date for update is given. Base game releases February 24th, 2023.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Cloud Version - It's as hilarious as it sounds. Only single player is playable, no multiplayer seen anywhere. Likely just a marketing scheme to show Microsoft is fine with multi-platform COD stuff. February 24th.
Custom Robo Remaster - Remaster of the GameCube version of Custom Robo. Pretty faithful to the original, i.e., not much is changed or added. There is an online multiplayer mode added and the battle mode is somewhat overhauled, but generally seems to be the same. June 2023.

Bayonetta Origins - Practically the same trailer from The Game Awards is shown off, just with Direct voiceover talking about the game. Very little is shown off, more of a reminder it exists. March 17th, 2023.

Fire Emblem Engage Expansion Pass Wave 2 - New Emblem Bracelet is Ryoma and Xander from Fates. New Divine Paralogue map is added, character unlocked through it is Chrom from Awakening. February 17th, 2023.

GBA NSO Emulator announced, part of the NSO Expansion Pack. Launch games include Castlevania Aria of Sorrow and Circle of the Moon, Drill Dozer, F-Zero Maximum Velocity, Golden Sun 1+2, Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, Mario Party Advance, Metroid Fusion, etc. 29 total for release. Mother 3 is confirmed to be in the Japanese version but not any other region at launch. April 21st, 2023.

Sizzle reel at the end shows off Tales of Symphonia, Octopath Traveler 2, Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, Atelier Ryza 3, Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star (March 3rd release confirmed), Minecraft Legends (Q2 2023), Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Dokapon Kingdom, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, Silksong is shown, but same trailer as before.
TloZ TotK - shows off new features, characters, and locations. Dungeons are confirmed. Ends with new amiibo announcement and a reminder of release date. A direct is planned for April before it's released but won't be mentioned at this direct.

Final announcement is a new trailer for Pikmin 4. Showcases the 4 new playable characters (2 of which are descendants of Olimar and Alph). Game has a in-game deadline to beat, much like the original had a 30-day cap, and a difficulty mode that removes the deadline. Many features from Pikmin 3 Deluxe return, such as challenge modes, Bingo Battle, and co-op story mode. 1 new Pikmin is shown off, but 3 total new types are planned. New type is ice Pikmin. There are new ice areas that normal Pikmin can't walk across quickly, but the ice types can. They are light blue in color and will also survive in water like blue Pikmin. Releases August 10th.

These are all fake as hell but I wish the third one is real because a single player-only cloud COD and Mother 3 in Japan only would be hilarious.

It's easy to know that the third leak is fake because it has Silksong being shown and we all know that game is never coming out.

Don't be mad at me fellow Silksong fans, I am just trying to reverse jinx this thing.

I just want another really exciting Direct. I like Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Splatoon 3, and Fire Emblem Engage a lot. Great games, glad Nintendo is killing it in quality, but they've been the very large anchor points for the past year especially and I'm ready for something new. They were so heavily rumored or even leaked beforehand too that their reveals also came with a little less pizazz. And also all three are franchises with some HUGE releases on Switch already. Again, ecstatic we have them I don't want to be misunderstood.

But I want something that really pops that Switch doesn't currently have. The last time that happened for me was Metroid Dread and in general the E3 2021 Direct. Metroid Prime, F-Zero, Donkey Kong, etc. All the series we haven't seen or a wicked new IP. I know it's kind of unlikely with TotK being our first half game (to the point where I question us even getting a Direct before the summer sadly lol), but I'm itching for that hit again lol.

Edit: I totally forgot how Pikmin 4 was this exact moment too last September lol. How dare I.

In past years I was stubbornly Team January until the last possible opportunity. I think this year I will convert to Team February a bit early.

Good luck Team January - wish you all the best.

I was out after the second week lol

the Team February vibe being especially harsh this year convinced me to quit having fun lol

Anyone who's got the nerve to lie about Dragon Quest ports can fuck off into orbit. That shit ain't funny.

i hope this week is the week, i could really go for some good nintendo news.

but with microsoft’s direct being this week, it seems unlikely.
At least we get both Microsoft and the Steamworld thing this week (which is likely going to involve Switch), so that's something no matter what.

Team January to the bitter end and I will 100% count it is as a shared Team January win if it is announced on January 31st, but airs February 1st.

I’m still not convinced Bayonetta is the only March game and thus a Direct as early as possible in the year feels right. Took a break during Fire Emblem week, this last full week of January seems to be an excellent time for a presentation.

Health issues of my own and my dog soured the start of my year so bad that when I can't even shitpost in earnest was when I realized I didn't believe in Team January this year.

I'll return to believing in #TeamJanuary come March, but man it's taken me until last week to stop writing off the year entirely and just let January be a bust

I think this week is possible, but the following three weeks all seem more likely. Really any of them could be it, though. IMO they wouldn't do it Octopath 2 week, and after that we're getting into March which feels a bit late, so I think it'll be within the next 3-4 weeks. Leaning on the earlier side, myself.

i’m really looking forward to Forza, so i’ve got that this week at least!

You say that, but remember when Origami King released the same week as Ghost of Tsushima to OBLITERATE THE COMPETITION?

Hello everyone, I am Shinya Takahashi and I will be your guide for today's Nintendo Direct.

What you've just saw is the latest instalment in the 2D Mario series, Super Mario Explore. We hope you look forward for this brand new take on 2D Mario. It releases on June 23th so please stay tuned for more updates.
What a weird way to spell « Turrican »

January is:
  • a breath of fresh air after the hell of the holiday season
  • the literal first month
  • a time of ambition and opportunity
  • the future is not yet spoken for

meanwhile if it weren't for the Direct February would be fucking unbearable. that's when the weight of the changes you're trying to make in your life start to press down on you. plus, the weather sucks. I'm always begging for spring by then

Luckily even the calendar tries to get February over as quickly as possible.

Why is February the shortest month anyways? Would it be that difficult to gift two extra days to February and take them away from a few months with 31 days?
That would make too much sense tho
Might be apocryphal, but there's a story that it's literally just because Augustus Caesar was arrogant and petty. When the month of August was renamed after Augustus (since he had success in that month and it was named Sextus which no longer made sense after the Julian calendar added more months), Augustus said "well clearly MY month can't have fewer days than the month named after Julius!" so he stole a day from February

That... sounds about right, actually. Just petty enough to be true. 😅

Fire Emblem Souls. A Souls-like.
Yes I would legit like that, haha. As long as it focuses a lot on monsters, and not only on humans.
Honestly Nintendo needs to get into the Souls market. I feel that an easier Nintendofied version of the genre would be incredible and very popular.

I can see the February Direct being okay too good, just because Zelda and whatever other smatterings will cover the next 3-4 months. Probably will reveal something like Pikmin 4 for August and a Mario spin-off for April or June? A remaster (3DS/GC) could fit in July as well I feel.

But I do think we’ll see Metroid at E3 (Prime 1 and 4), Donkey Kong, and/or a 2D Mario. So I feel E3 will hit if the Feb Direct ends up being fine or disappointing.

this would be a tremendous time to skip a direct

don't cover zelda at all, let players discover the mysteries. reveal the june mario game on its own, and reveal or date something for july. maybe some rumored old shit?

I doubt we will get anything from Ninty this week, the fact Microsoft have a Direct this week I don’t think Nintendo would also have on in fear of them being confused by consumers. Plus, they would prefer to have a week to themselves for any news to breathe.

I think Nintendo SHOULD release a Direct in the same week that Microsoft makes a "direct" branded presentation.

Assert dominance.

Blame the Romans for February having 28 days. July and August are named after Julius Caesar and Augustus Caesar and obviously those months need to have 31 days otherwise it would dishonor them by not having 31 days so they took them from February. To be honest we should just change it but naw changing things is hard err I mean we have to keep the tradition alive!!!
