I'm honestly surprised that Nintendo didn't slip Wind Waker and/or Twilight Princess somewhere in 2022. For games that were supposedly ready to be launched on the Switch, they haven't been dropped.
 
Would love to see Miyamoto showcasing a 2K / 4K Pikmin, with him just being happy to show minuscule details everywhere thanks to the resolution & DLSS.

They probably planned the schedule around TotK launching in November and then there wasn't a good spot for Zelda ports after the TotK delay.

I'm guessing they very much don't want two Zeldas launching within 9 months of each other.

Nintendo changed the Direct voiceover narrator since the last Direct, he was doing it for more than 5 years. And you know who is the new narrator? Yeah, you guessed it, it's the same guy who was narrator of ARMS commentator Biff. ARMS2 is coming and you know it.

Actually it’s also the same guy they used for the Mario 35th anniversary Direct. The change doesn’t bug me too much but I am gonna miss the other guy, would’ve been nice if the relegated the new guy to special Directs and and kept the other guy for Generals

damn, you are right. He also did the Mario Direct. That voice sounded familiar.
The previous guy really was doing it since the April 2017 General Direct. I tried to find online who it was but never found it (saw some people asking who is it too).

But actually he had one previous appearance in 2015:

 
I will do mine considering classic 40 minutes direct with ~20 headlines:

  • Opening: Mario 2D
  • Mid: Prime 1 HD + 4
  • Ending Zelda TOTK long trailer
  • F-Zero GX HD
  • Baten Kaitos HD
  • Splatoon 3 update
  • MK8 DX Wave 4
  • Xenoblade 3 update
  • Switch Sports update
I think people should be more/less satisfied.

No Pokémon news.
 
Whoever decides which game opens a Direct should do it better because opening it with Overwatch, MH: Rise Sunbreak or FE: Three Hopes was not really it in previous years.

Kirby Forgotten Land instead of Sunbreak
Strikers instead of Three Hopes

The latest with mainline FE was okay but it was weird that they opened with FE game second in a row.

I just realised that Miyamoto will almost definitely fly to US in early April for a premiere of Mario Movie. That also means he will be giving a lot damn interviews to media and almost certainly not just about the movie. Great reason to show Pikmin 4 before then so when media asks him about it he has something to talk about.

I suspect the opening Direct announcement is unfortunately most often chosen because they want fresh eyes on it, not because it's exciting. It's the perfect spot for things they need to push

I actually think this type (if it releases sometime) it's separate thing. EPD4 not really tend to have their games in the Directs. Only one was Switch Sports (?).
 
Opening announcements have been all over the place, so I don't think there's really a definitive pattern there. We've gotten Smash reveals, imminent 1st party releases, long-term 1st party releases, a 3rd party port, and even a 3rd party DLC announcement with no gameplay attached.

Smash reveals have been one of the most boring openers, please dont @ me.

E3 2019 opening
then February 2021 (Direct after year and half, opened with Smash once again)
E3 2021 Smash once again

But opening with Overwatch is still one of the funniest shit, like what the hell was that. And Takahashi saying that what you just saw was Overwatch. That is top meme content.

This would be a top 4 Switch-era direct for me. Solid mix of old and new shit. Top 2-3 if TotK trailer comes close to BOTW's at the Switch presentation.

200 cc is almost impossible to deal with in several courses like the dragon rooth or something whatever it was named.

Like, some courses are simply not wide enough for us to manage to not hit walls or fall off cliffs.

Most people entered a contest to win cash money eshop credit if the direct is announced closest to their guess, so half the community is posting or not posting to meta game.
