If Prime 4 is doing well internally it possible that some of Retro have moved on: 1) a smaller project 2) helping Nintendo (maybe Mario Kart 9?) 3) preparing for a Switch 2 Metroid Prime game 4) remastering Prime 2
Normally I would have preferred to see retro studios working on something new and flex their creative muscles but after the disaster post tropical freeze they should just work on metroid prime for a while, maybe dkc returns 3 if all the talk of epDK turn into nothing.

I mean Prime 4 has been in development for at least the 4 years since the reboot announcement, probably even longer. It probably IS almost done or nearing it’s final stages.

I personally think it’d be kinda insane if we don’t finally see it this year

Also thinking we may see something from Capcom at this direct. What was their last game for switch (sunrise expansion and cloud resident evils). They could possibly have an ace up their sleeve with an exclusive. I know I’m dreaming. Or even port some of the remaining devil may cry games.

If anything, I'm expecting something Ace Attorney

I just want to finally see Metroid Prime 4. I’ll be disappointed if we don’t see the game this year. It’s been long enough now. We should get to see it this year.

I think another part of the reason Pikmin 4 is happening is because EPD 10 seemingly doesn’t know what to do with 2D Mario anymore.
I mean, Mario Maker 2 was out in 2019 and in the same year another 2D game entered production in Kyoto. Wouldn't surprise me if we get 2D Mario this year as well as Pikmin 4.

Yeah I'm personally thinking we see it in June, along with an announcement for Prime HD (or Trilogy HD if we're lucky). 2024 for Prime 4 seems right now.

I think Capcom must have something Ace Attorney 7 and or Mega Man from capcom between this year and 2024

Also Tose is basiclaly always working on Resident Evil spin offs since Residnet Evil Survivor

I think that in 2024 we will have a new RE single player spin off (to soon for 9 and there seems to be for now no other remakes in dev) whatever it will be Rev 3 or not

How many pages will this thread get when Direct is finally announced? $5 US eShop giftcard giveaway.

Let's have a little fun. Let's try to guess how many pages will this thread get when Nintendo Direct is finally announced (the moment the thread will close to be precise, so no new posts will be there).

This is something that every one of us can effect and it's not as boring as "Team January/Feb."

What are the rules?

You have to quote this post (so I can find you guess easily) and type the exact number you think the final thread page count will be.
You can send your guess until Monday, January 16th 3pm UTC. So that the final number cannot be guessed so easily (if we will get the last week January Direct).

The person who will quess the exact number or the nearest one will get the giftcard. If more people guess the exact number (it could happen lol) than one of these will be selected by random selection.

And you can edit your number until the end date. - January 16th 3pm UTC.

That's only assuming there hasn't been any issues in production. Remember we were supposed to "get" dread around 2005

It all depends on Prime 1, if it is showed and there is no mention or teaser of Prime 4, then there is some problems, because you HAVE to relaunch the brand with both hands open (Prime 1 HD and Prime 4)

It's kind of weird to think of Ace Attorney as a series with an at least semi-annual release schedule, but considering the JP-only releases and the various ports it definitely is one

GAAC was 2021 and last year was barely a release (Trilogy HD replacing old trilogy release on mobile), it feels like we're due something this year, though my gut says it'll be a compilation of 4-6

I think I’m in the same boat again. This first direct will reveal Metroid Prime Remaster and the release date. It’ll also have the first reveal for Prime 4.

Though, I guess they don’t have to reveal Prime 4. I feel like it’d make sense at this point. Also, what is the big holiday game this year? Is it a new 3D Mario or 2D Mario or Metroid Prime 4 or new DK game? I feel like it’ll be one of these games and they have to announce it in the first direct. As far as I remember we ALWAYS know the big holiday game before E3 (excluding Covid) for Switch. To me one of these will be announced during this first direct

2D Mario
3D Mario
New DK game
Metroid Prime 4 first reveal

What third party older surprise ports do people think we might get this year? Last year gave us the likes of Nier Automata and No Man’s Sky, I’m still holding out hope that Mass Effect Legendary Edition will come eventually.

Maybe Aspyr will do another Star Wars, there's Dark Forces and the Rogue Squadroon games

I think 2d Mario makes the most sense as the big Holiday 2023 game. 3d Mario is far more ambitious and graphically intensive than 2d Mario, so I think they'll wanna keep the next big 3d Mario (a follow up to Bowser's Fury, gameplay-wise?) as an exclusive for the Switch successor. 2d Mario will probably be announced at this year's E3 imo.

I think Prime 4 and Prime Remastered will be saved as an E3 double reveal. I'm thinking Prime Remastered will launch H2 2023, (August? October like Dread?) and Prime 4 will be a cross-gen 2024 game. Only cross-gen cuz it was already promised waaaaay back in 2017 as a Switch game. I bet if they had never announced it, it would be a Switch 2 exclusive lol.

DK is a big question mark for me. Who knows what's going on with it lol.

I agree I think 3D Mario is being saved for the next system. So, that leaves Prime 4, 2D Mario and whatever this DK game is lol. Prime 4 I think is 2024 which leaves 2D Mario and the DK game. I’ll probably go with 2D Mario for this holiday and maybe use it with the movie coming in April.

That's the most logical thing to think based on the rumors we have, but officially we only know that Prime 4 was in development and then it was rebooted.

Even if that was 4 years ago, Retro and Nintendo have the perfect scenario to be completely silent about the game if they are still not confident enough with it:
-There is no content about the game, so a cancellation wouldn't be so traumatic for the general public.
-There are no similar games for Switch and the system is selling incredibly well, it's not really needed.
- It wouldn't be the first time that Nintendo keeps a game forgotten in a limbo (Pikmin 4, Dread)

What I'm trying to say is that may be we shouldn't take the Metroid Prime saga return for granted until we actually see it.

Yeah that’s true. Prime 4 announced then for holiday I think is too late. 2D Mario I could see and the DK game.

2D Mario is probably better to be announced now and talk about it in conjunction with the upcoming Mario movie.
I know everyone talking about it better be announced before the movie. But I feel like they would no go that long from reveal to release with 2D Mario. Just look at Maker 2. But it really depends, if the game is a really massive new take on 2D Mario then they will reveal it soon enough I feel.

Your last sentence is what I see happening. For the first time in decades I see them going ambitious with 2D Mario. It’ll be something completely new that we’ve never seen from their past. Everything new across the board. For me that means it should be announced sooner than later.
