How many pages will this thread get when Direct is finally announced? $5 US eShop giftcard giveaway.

Let's have a little fun. Let's try to guess how many pages will this thread get when Nintendo Direct is finally announced (the moment the thread will close to be precise, so no new posts will be there).

This is something that every one of us can effect and it's not as boring as "Team January/Feb."

What are the rules?

You have to quote this post (so I can find you guess easily) and type the exact number you think the final thread page count will be.
You can send your guess until Monday, January 16th 3pm UTC. So that the final number cannot be guessed so easily (if we will get the last week January Direct).

The person who will quess the exact number or the nearest one will get the giftcard. If more people guess the exact number (it could happen lol) than one of these will be selected by random selection.

And you can edit your number until the end date. - January 16th 3pm UTC.

Nintendo caring about Famicom Detective club is such a fan fiction.

Square going from Bravely Second do Bravely Default 2 to go back to Bravely Thord would be so them. That's actually kinda realistic lol.

Mario Odyssey randomly getting late DLC isnt that unrealistic, but it just doesn't have sales performance on the same level.
I think they would rather make a new one and then might aswell wait for the next console.

I don't understand why the people who make the 4chan rumors always fall into putting games as if it were the time of 3ds and wiiu.
Current Directs are often full of third party content.

The world simply isn't built to give us more Famicom Detective Club and a Pushmo collection, as much as I dearly, dearly want to live in that reality.

I'll keep saying it until the year is full of Old Stuff, but I think 2023 is going to be at least 50/50 new to old. Pikmin, Zelda, FE, Bayonetta Origins, DK or Mario, Style Savvy, Detective Pikachu in the new corner; Kirby, Metroid, F Zero, Advance Wars, maybe Mario in the old corner.

Now because of that absurd 4chan leak I really, really want a Pushmo collection, so that can also join Old Stuff Corner.

I don't understand why the people who make the 4chan rumors always fall into putting games as if it were the time of 3ds and wiiu.

It's a lot harder to predict third party games, and they aren't as exciting to the people who slurp up leaks. Look at how "disappointed" some Nintendo tubers and people on sites like this were at the September 2022 direct. What's more exciting to the average Nintendo fan that slurps up leaks?

A- A leak with a Metroid Prime remake/remaster, an F-Zero remake/remaster, a Kid Icarus Uprising remaster/remake, and a new Donkey Kong game

Or

B- A leak with a Harvest Moon remake/remaster, a Fatal Frame remake/remaster, a Front Mission 3 remake/remaster, and a new Octopath Traveler game.

The real info isn't anywhere near as "exciting" for the leak crowd. Boring leaks, even if real, often go completely under the radar unless they come from someone with a strong track record of leaks.

Reminder that when Neon White got leaked people shit on the name without any idea of what it was, and it ended up being one of the best games of 2022.

At the end of the day, these fakes leaks are noticeable to be fakes for that very reason, because they are not realistic.

That particular Harvest Moon remake was one of my Switch dream games too.

Man 2022 was amazing for Switch announcements for me. Battle Network Legacy Collection, Persona ports, the best Harvest Moon remake...

Stuff I've wanted since the Switch launched.

I'm gonna say 190

Nintendo treats remasters as new releases and I'd rather have new (smaller) releases than remasters. With Nintendo it's not an AND it's an OR.

That'd be absolutely horrid. The current trend of constant remasters and safe sequels is already kinda turning me off gaming as a hobby and it's starting to feel more like a pastime.

There's no reason to just put out the older games as they are with emulation, even if emulation might sometimes not be 100% accurate, seeing how normal people don't give a rats ass about performance I'd say 90% accuracy is more than enough.

While I definitely think remasters and remakes are having a little too much grip on the industry right now, and that's certainly a bit tiring - Nintendo has actually had a pretty good run of releasing original games now for a while.. so I guess they're bound for some simpler remasters now ;P

Over the last 2 full calendar years Nintendo has released 19,5 brand new games (yeah that's right I am counting Bowsers Fury as half a game because it's brilliant and brand new, despite being tied to a port) and honestly I could be counting LaL and FMD as brand new releases wouldnt be too weird, considering they never left Japan and 99.9% of us never ever played.

If we're not getting a new Mario game until the launch of Switch 2, fingers crossed they tide us over with Super Mario Galaxy 2 HD.

Agree totally, literally on the same exact page as you. Sadly this trend seems to only be increasing all over the industry as development times get longer and the average AAA game is getting bigger and bigger and becoming even huger bloated timesinks. Doesn't help that Nintendo seems to treat remasters as new releases anyway making the flow of new content even more restricted.

Luckily this trend seems to be counteracted by Indies though and the occasional differently styled game like Gungrave GORE recently.

777 is my favorite number and the goal we should shoot for no matter how soon it is so that’ll be my pick. We only need to do like 2 pages an hour for the next 15 days or whatever. We got this!

can't wait on more games for a hobby that already has a near-infinite library to pick from

I honestly do not get takes like this, at all. We live in an era where more games are released then ever before and I can't even process how most people have the time or money to play everything that comes out in a given year. Remasters/remakes are just one of several kinds of games released in an annual basis and you could easily spend over $1,000 on new games in a given year and not buy a single remake/remaster/enhanced port.

Also the idea that a game is somehow worth less because it's old is also really sus. Gaming has been a passion of mine for basically all 33 years I've been alive, and there are tons of games where a remake/remaster is either a game I've never heard of, or a game I never got around to playing. Many of these remasters also go out of the way to fix problems with the original version that your suggested "a 90% emulated port is good enough" don't address. This doesn't even address situations where a remake/remaster enables a previously untranslated game to finally get an english release like we've seen with the Famicom Detective Club series and the Great Ace Attorney games.

Wow, that Pokemon 1008 thing was ... nothing. Dunno why they had to announce this prior. It's really just a video showing all Pokemon so far.
