I dont even watch arlo anymore, but i still enjoy his reactions very much. They re overblown but in a much more palatable way than.... etika for example (god bless his soul).
Why bring up Etika instead of the hundreds of other reactors that are still around? Kinda weird.

Miyamoto gets a ton of shit by certain fanbases but this man shaped my childhood and gaming taste more then anyone else on the planet and the day he is gone I will probably cry the whole day. Will hurt more then Iwata honestly.

So seeing him still healthy and happy makes me happy too!

Can't wait to see what new Pikmin we get, hoping we get green ones and maybe a larger command capacity too.

There've been rumours that they can refuse orders violating the Geneva convention, hope that's true.

The only thing dampening my enthusiasm here is that I genuinely don't know how you top Pikmin 3. Game was so tight and flawless all the way around. Where do they go next?

I loved flying and rock pikmin, but I kinda hope they're gone so that the game can find its own identity.

I just hope for a longer game, one that has an extra full area or two than previous games - but WITHOUT the lame abstract dungeon diving used to pad out the disappointing Pikmin 2.

If Emily leaks about pikmin 4 reboot is true do we think the reason for it is the change of the camera?
Maybe the first prototype felt to much like a more of the same pikmin game and they scrapped it and then they thought of a pikmin game played in 3rd person?
It makes sense to me.

it makes sense, totally.

I always dreamt of a open map - seamless Pikmin, thou. Imagine a wide, open area freely explorable, with various area to stop with the space ship, boss to fight, treasures and resources to collect and dedicated area challenge to beat. It would be dope, imo, would be cool to see a game like this, and maybe the huge success of the open world formula moved the project towards this direction.

Anyone else watching the reveal multiple times a day?
And I felt like am the same lol. Even the logo reveal is perfect with that music, watching many reacting too.

Well, I suppose the "prototype" of this game from 2015 to 2017 was still somewhat based on the Wii U version that was made. After that they realized it needs to be rebooted or maybe it was rebooted multiple times, which I think was the case. EPD10 also working on Maker 2 didn't help much either. Anyway, my point is that when the Switch released this game was never in full active development, it started 3 years ago, in 2019.

Do we know roughly when in 2019 it was rebooted? Technically it could be anywhere from 2.75 to 3.75 years into development
I looked into that development thread I made and in full it is:

In February 2019, Emily said:

It was actually rebooted at some point during development. Which is why we haven't heard anything about it yet.

So, it just seems like we are all wrong because there is never "it was rebooted in 2019" it's just "it was rebooted at some point during development."

But if we look into what Emily and Imran pointed it's:

"when we claimed Pikmin 4's development was rebooted in 2019."

To me it's just seems like they are claiming "it was rebooted" in 2019 and not that "it was rebooted in year of 2019". Emily also made that claim in February 2019 so it just seems like she is reffering that it was somehwere before and not in 2019. I hope that makes sense lol.

it does, this could be big news

perhaps we can assume it was rebooted before February 2019? unless it was rebooted again at some point

I think we have the ask developers segment that's going to beat the one for switch sports.

The pocketwatch we see in the trailer makes me hopeful the "Real-life items collectathon" is back.
Loved that aspect of Pikmin 2, with the Piklopedia.

Here is what happened, full story. Purely speculation on my part, of course.

It's July 2013. Pikmin 3 releases for the Wii U.

At some point before, or few months after. The development of Super Mario Maker begins. Before anyone starts, I know how EPD groups work and it's just not like the one EPD group shares the same staff on every game they made. But I know that Shigefumi Hino, Pikmin 3 Director went to work on Maker after Pkmin 3, he also then worked on Maker 2.

So, we are in 2013. Pressumably both Pikmin 4 for the Wii U and Super Mario Maker are in full development.

Fast forward to Spring 2014. the "NX" or Switch if you want is now in full development. Koizumi as a General Producer and Kawamoto as a General Director are brought up to development by Iwata himself.

At this point you may assume that they maybe considered Pikmin for a new hardware at the time but that's not the case since in 2014 Nintendo somewhat thought they could save the Wii U. Remember E3 2014? Zelda, Mario Maker, Splatoon, Star Fox. All of these games were scheduled for release in 2015.

We must now skip to the infamous interview in September 2015. The interview itself was not actually taking place in September tho, it was July of 2015. It was then published 2 months later, but that's irrelevant. The quote itself "it's actually very close to completion". I don't think Miyamoto was actually reffering to it's development or what not, he maybe ment concepts or something, the fact that Miyamoto does not speak much English at all also does not help since his words need to be translated back and many things could be also in translation. But. Do you actually think that the Pikmin 4 could be "close to being done" just 2 years after Pikmin 3 released? They maybe were using some assets and what not but that seems really small development time, even with some EPD10 staff making Super Mario Maker at that time. And we know that Nintendo is sometimes weird with these estimates remember how BOTW went? I know problems with engine and such but they assumed they will release BOTW in just 34 months (January 2013 to roughly November 2015) if that game would be released in 2015.

At this point, when he last reffered to it in 2017 it's safe to say that it was already rebooted, because he talks about "progressing" and "told not to share anything from PR" that just sounds like we will not see it anytime soon. And as I say previously, we don't know when it was rebooted, it could be in 2016, it could be in 2017, it could be in 2018. I don't actually think that it needed to be rebooted multiple time, I just think it was rebooted when Wii U version needed to be scrapped. So somewhere between 2015 - 2016. But that quote from Miyamoto himself is still curious, maybe the game itself was ment to be swan song for the Wii U and could be released in 2016 but then they realized it would not make any sense and since the game was never officially announced for the public it was somewhat fine. Yes, it was announced by press release by NOA and talked in few interviews but aside from that? Nothing, so it was somewhat safe for them to scrap the game for Wii U.

Development of Maker 2 itself probably has not helped much either (again, don't compared the full staff so I don't have the full picture here), but I think it's still relevant. Miyamoto working on Mario Run in probably good chunk of 2016 is also a point, or his theme park involment, and the movie from like 2017 onwards.

TLDR: I think that the development was probably rebooted only once, and that was when they made the change from Wii U to Switch. Other factors also played a role and the game was probably never in full active development till like late 2018 to somewhere in 2019. Remember, it was not until mid 2020 when Pikmin 3 Deluxe released, and year later Bloom was released too. It all makes sense now, it was a preparation for a new title to come, to starting people see Pikmin again when Pikmin 4 comes.

Farm. It makes it sound like it's nothing more than a cash grab that's just being sent out there.

Are you aware 3 Deluxe was handled by an external studio? That's what @Raccoon was referencing which is a perfectly acceptable use of the word and an actual definition of such

I'd honestly believe after the critical success of the port that they'd farm it out

I know this is is a joke but I do legitimately think Nintendo may have gave more resources and “priority” to Pikmin 4 development after the series proved itself with 3 Deluxe.
I suspect they got more resources but I don’t think the game was ever developed externally outside of the usual outsourcing they do on every EPD project.

oh thank goodness I thought I had been inadvertently racist or something

I'll try to be more neutral about these things

Ah I see. Apologies to you Raccoon.

absolutely no problem, I'm just relieved it wasn't an offensive phrase. it would be dishonest for me to act as though I didn't mean to rib 3 Deluxe a little bit, the externally-developed new content of which I didn't personally care for too much. I shouldn't be so dismissive though; EPD's future is narrowing, it's just a reality of the industry

I bet you can imagine how I found that out lmao
Were you researching stuff for an internet argument?

I'm happy Miyamoto is still pushing this project, but I would have liked to see another producer at least introduced as part of the reveal, the next Pikmin advocate to step into Miyamoto's place. Just to see it'll keep going when he's gone.

Also, I want a new song by Strawberry Flower, it was something I felt was missing from Pikmin 3.

I dont think you need to be worried. Judging by how much 3d sold being a simple wii u port, 4 should do enough to revitalize nintendo's interest. Good chances of it being a 4 to 5 million seller, especially with the new SAD DAD CINEMATOGRAPHIC SPECIALIZED ENVIRONMENT (SADISM), its exciting to see the new perspectives we will get.
