Surely they'd be cremating it?
yo uh

what do they uh do with dead monarchs

because uh I have a horse incinerator just sitting here and uh y’know. consequences. whatnot.

This is comically early and I thought of it only due to sheer boredom, but I'm just gonna throw out an early-as-hell prediction for Tears of the Kingdom's MC score: 95.

Game critics are getting tougher to please each day -- a Nintendo game has not broken 90 MC since Animal Crossing two and a half years ago -- and I already know some critics will point to the absence of true novelty in TotK compared to BOTW's watershed sandbox moment. However, it will still be masterfully executed, and I actually predict that fan reception could be even higher than BOTW thanks to a refinement of what made its predecessor so vital.

Critics will point to Elden Ring and TotK as the pinnacle of post-BOTW open world game design, thanks to some comforting, accomplished linearity from the seven dungeons breaking up the vast openness of its world.

Who are Forever Entertainment? Are they known for bad games or something?
Well, from what I see the games I do recognize that they proudly display on their website...yeah, can't wait to see what's next from the teams that brought us Clock Simulator and Agony, (but also the ports of Panzer Dragoon Remake and Green Hell?) I know John was lamenting who did the Front Mission games but I guess I was distracted from when they talked about why John was suddenly very morose about the games lol

Man recording slow panning shots of random things is awfully boring.
I assume you’re animating the camera and just clicking go, right? please don’t tell me you’re doing it manually, that sounds painful

hey clock simulator was pretty decent quality for a clock simulator

disclaimer: I opened it one time on principle and I do not remember if this is true

Oh I'm doing it manually. I have no idea what shots I want so I'm just doing various things and recording them and I'll pick and choose maybe 1% of that for a ~1-2m trailer.

They have done a lot of meh games but also their most recent effort was House of the Dead, which, while decent, has a number of issues -- like frame dips, long loading and Move implementation that is broken.

[Indie World voice] and SO CAN YOU when GrΓΆgol Bonanza skitters its way on to the Nintendo Switch this* Spring!

*lmao definitely not
Next spring for sure though

Ah no cremation for her, her casket needs to be taken where it belongs... The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities

These past 5 years of my life have been a bit weird, I just realized 95% of my Switch library is backlog.

lmao, so fitting

also quick no queen y’all everybody get your stolen artifacts back

I think it would be cool if there was a Lupin III movie where he stole all the foreign artifacts in the British Museum

My 2023 is slowly coming into focus. Starfield whenever that comes out, Rune Factory 3 in the spring, Story of Seasons in Summer.

I hope I like at least one of these farming games coming out because that genre is just so feast of famine for me

Like, Harvest Moon 64/ Back to Nature and Stardew Valley are some of my favorite games of all time and played them endlessly yet basically all others I could barely get through a calendar year before dropping and I’ve play a LOT of them hoping something else would scratch that itch

Im not sure if it’s just me but it just feels like with that type of game there is just so much more that can go wrong with the feedback loop than most other genres and very few of them ever figure out or get the formula just right. Like I’d say it’s kind of up there with 3D Platformers in terms of how thin the line between Instant Classic and Cheap Imitation is

I've tried like four different farming games since Harvest Moon Magical Melody on the Gamecube (HM Tree of Tranquility, SoS Trio of Towns, Stardew Valley, and SoS Friends of Mineral Town) and none of them scratched the same itch, whereas MM is one of the few games I've put 100+ hours into. I think the problem is that Magical Melody had clear objectives and goals with the Musical Note collectables and none of the others had that. Magical Melody was also apparently more Animal Crossing inspired (like, original Animal Crossing), with its emphasis on character interactions and an expanded effort on doing things in the town outside of farming.

I still got to play that one actually; I played a wonderful life and save the homeland and really didn’t care for either figured MM would be more of the same but I’ll give it a shot. Think my girlfriend has a copy of it πŸ€”

Nintendo making sure that every Switch owner knows what an ouroboros is by the end of its life cycle. Personally, I'm waiting on the Kirby ouroboros where he is inhaling his own ass. What copy ability Kirby would get from himself, god only knows.

if smash is canon it’s a gulp of fucking nothing

So far, I've only added one game to my backlog this year on Switch (13 Sentinels). That's the best behaved I've been in years.
I've successfully added no games to my Switch backlog this year

Meanwhile I got a Steam Deck so my backlog as a whole more than quadrupled due to all the free and very cheap PC games I've hoarded over the years

Gave the Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet trial version a go. It’s a mix of JRPG, dungeon crawler, and third person shooter of all things. For $10 I’m sold. Only complaint is that it’s Kirito and the SAO crew in the story instead of you know, the actual GunGaleOnline anime crew. Need to make some dinner, and then with 4 optional heroes recruited I’m finally moving forward on XBC3’s story on chapter 3

Heads up! Metro 2033 is just $2.50 in the NA eShop (Metro Last Light is $5). Excellent horror games, Ukrainian made.

If you don't like Rune Factory 4, it's unlikely you'll like Harvestella or RF3 special. A Wonderful Life is a very unique entry among farming games, like really controversial in that it's a lot of peoples favorite, while others do not like it. But the remake should add a lot more to tide the criticisms the original had.

I've got a hunch that we will get a Genesis NSO update this month.
Here he comes

Hey all... probably not going to be as frequent on Fami over the next few months. I love the Direct hype seasons, but I gotta take breaks in between. I had a lot of fun with you, and I'll see you again next year more consistently!

Maybe I'll drop by here or there though... we'll have to wait and see!

Take all the time you need! It does get crazy here sometimes for sure. Just don’t be gone too long - we need to hear that original Famiboards song!

This gen for Nintendo feels like the gen of "2's" meaning a game and its sequel or follow up both on the same console

  • Octopath
  • Splatoon
  • Legend of Zelda
  • Bowserrs fury and Odyssey
  • Traditional Pokemon

Yeah these are more or less exceptions but a man can dream. Just waiting for the 2nd Metroid game to hit, and Tomodachi Life(similar vein to Animal Crossing).

Who knows. Maybe one day the sequel to 1,2 Switch will appear on that list!

I presume advertising isn't allowed in here so I probably shouldn't link to it, but next week a talk of mine goes live at an online summit, where I discuss the intersection of autism and OCD.
I'm super nervous but also incredibly excited! Hopefully it helps to raise awareness.

Also, my partner officially got her permanent residence confirmed! No more worrying we'd be separated if her visa ran out. :D

My underground-style posts might be a little too inappropriate for Famiboards
I still have to do a triple take every time I see a human(ish) face next to your name

Thinking about it, if Nintendo plans to do a big showcase for this new hardware (let's say for a Spring 2023 release), wouldn't they wait until Jan/February 2023 to have their big direct with tons of huge announcements, not now? It'd make sense to do it now if it was coming this year but all signs point towards H1 next year

I think this last direct was just the hold over, covering their games up until February (suspiciously a good time to reveal the next system), then all marketing switches to TotK, Switch 2, and a big showcase where they'll display the big stuff all in their new 4k console variant. Though not a great direct, it did enough to get us by until 2023, though with a big lack in diversity and a lot of low budget JP filler titles.

The 20 second showcase of Zelda TotK, the 25 snippet of Pikmin 4, no MPHD, etc. Lots of games that would benefit from a good hardware upgrade and be the forefront titles of their big reveal presentation with other, big upgraded titles.

Zelda TotK
Pikmin 4
Metroid Prime HD + Metroid Prime 4 double combo
The next 3D Mario Game
Monolith Soft's Xenoblade 3 stand alone expansion title (and maybe Xenoblade 3 upgrade)
Some third party titles (multiplats)
New third party exclusives (Switch + Switch 2 cross gen games)
Bayonetta 3 Switch 2 upgrade
Astral Chain 2?
New IP from EPD4?

Just thinking things

Man I’m real curious what Tokyo has been up to. They were consistently putting out titles just about every 2 years from 2006-2017… and then nothing after after Odyssey, which is 5 years old. You’d think with the success of Odyssey, they’d work on a new iterative sequel, a la Galaxy -> Galaxy 2, but I’m starting to wonder if it’ll just be a brand new experience.

Definitely excited to see how Nintendo's library on Switch continues to grow next year. I think the small peek into 2023 is already pretty promising for the year.

Same. In a few years Switch’s library will just be something to marvel at - with almost all IPs covered across just about every genre.
