Wow, with that said. It's been a really light year for Nintendo.
In terms of exclusives we have had:

Mario 3d world + Bowser Fury
MH rise
Skyward Sword HD
New Pokémon Snap
Bravely Default 2
Mario Golf
Mario Party superstars
Metroid Dread

Which really isn't bad, since I had my wedding this year, and I'm saving for a house this year. Luckily we also have the Animal Crossing DLC, and that will be the huge holiday game alongside Dread too.

This is something of a bummer for me, though not necessarily because it creates a lack of things to play - there are half a dozen late 2021 releases at the top of my eShop wishlist which I can pick up in the next few months. I'll also consider the GTA games, though who knows if I'd actually get around to completing them. However, I was hoping to use my remaining NSO voucher on this, and it expires in April. 'Spring' is a little ambiguous, but I'm hoping this is a March or April game so I still have the option of using my voucher on it. I'd probably use the voucher on Kirby if that becomes an option, too.

  • Shin Megami Tensei V
  • No More Heroes 3
  • WarioWare: Get It Together!
  • Game Builder Garage
  • Detective Club Remakes (x 2)
  • Big Brain Academy

That's just off the top of my head. In terms of the total number of exclusive releases, it hasn't been far off the amount of stuff we've seen every year on Switch.

Both Famicom Detective games, Game Builder Garage, No More Heroes 3, WarioWare, Shin Megami Tensei V, Pokemon remakes, Big Brain Academy…..this really wasn’t a light year at all. It’s been great, especially for those with wide gaming tastes.

I feel like even with a bit of an overemphasis on ports, this is still not what I'd call a light year. I mean loon at 2018/2020. Any year with Metroid and Monster Hunter as premier exclusives isn't too bad.

Also forgetting No More Heroes III and Warioware, and also Pokemon and Big Brain Academy later (though I assume maybe you meant the games that have just released).

Edit: actually, yeah like the others said the Famicom detective games and Shin Megami Tensei V are great looking additions. Also it probably doesn't count but Ghost N Goblins was a timed exclusive.

The games being released are definitely nicher than on average, except for the usual Pokemon and Mario Party, and the unusual MH.

But I dunno ... this is kind of my 2nd favorite year on Switch, actually. TONS of releases, just not all megahits lol.

Guessing an April/May release as there's a potential gap in Nintendo's release schedule after Kirby and before Splatoon 3. Hopefully this will give the game the spotlight it so richly deserves.

Damn, 2022 is shaping up to be one hell of a year.

Maybe the delay is to improve Online? having a hard time to think why this needs a delay otherwise, it looked perfectly fine in the E3 showcase and the games are not demanding , they're GBA games after all

Digital preorder billing date was updated to 6/24/2022. Unless it’s a placeholder it could mean 7/1/2022 release?

That’d be July so unlikely. Heck it’s probably by March(so it doesn’t miss the fiscal year)

That's a bit surprising. I didn't take its absence from the direct to mean anything, since it looks to be a low budget remake, and Nintendo has been very careful with announcing dates during the pandemic

That is true. And I am not saying that Nintendo did bad this year at all. Just felt it was bit light. I totally missed the Pokémon remakes and SMTV though. Especially with MH and SMTV, it seems that Nintendo has been really utilizing 3rd party support. Hell, most of their 1st party games this year weren't made by Nintendo's own studios.
You had:
Metroid Dread(Mercury Steam)
Skyward Sword HD(tantulus)
New Pokémon Snao(Bandai Namco)
Mario Golf(Camelot).

Nintendo has been doing a great job licensing and publishing out their IP, and I think that really saved 2021.

I don’t think tweaks are going to change what some people are taking issue with. By far the biggest criticism of the visuals is they aren’t in 2D and not using pixel art. Visuals getting improved from reveal to launch is pretty typical of Nintendo-publisher software, so I think that was a given, even before the delay.

The execution of the style they went for can be better, though. Lighting and textures need some work to better emulate the plastic toy aesthetic, and some of the models that looked a bit bad (blue moon soldier and the capture model) could be fixed.

I always felt it was unnecessary for it to release in December. Nintendo has a couple great holiday titles this year and thought perhaps it’ll get lost in the shuffle.

Might be a strategic delay. But I could be wrong, I also didn’t think much that it miss the direct.

We're getting an overview-trailer once the marketing kicks in, probably after the release of SMT V.

I think it's 49,99£ and I think that's fair for two whole games remade.
The alerts didn't tell me I'd been quoted here which is odd.

The trailer only mentions the 2 campaigns with no acknowledgement of the other modes, if it includes all the war rooms and stuff as well, then there's a fair bit of content, especially trying to get the best ranks everywhere.

Also between our posts it got delayed ☹️ So hopefully it's getting padded out with stuff as more to do is good. 🙂

I’m surprised I’ve seen that a lot of comments (not here) saying it’s getting delayed cause of the graphics lol.
Those people are gonna be mad when the game doesn't completely change art styles for next showing.

A delay if they need extra time to polish the game is more than fair. And while i expect graphics to be better at release, i wouldn't expect sweeping changes in presentation to happen.

Gives me more time to work on the ST, but less time for me to actually play it at launch as that is going to be one of the busiest times for me for work in years.

I know people want the original look but would make the games more likely to fail which you would think people wouldn’t want.
How so? The plastic toy soldier look isn't particularly more appealing than a cel-shaded aesthetic evoking the original sprites. In fact, Advance Wars has been more successful in markets where the toy look wasn't used.

I’m okay with this, I never loved the release date and was afraid the game would be buried in December.

Hopefully a Spring release means it gets some of the spotlight to itself. This will be my first Advance Wars game and I can wait if it means a better product.

that's at least a 3 month delay. i wonder if maybe another game 2022 game is getting delayed so this could act as a cover up?

You’d be surprised what a cel shader can do
I'm not, no. honestly, cel shading kinda worn out it's welcome for me. especially when Wind Waker is constantly brought up. I don't like the look of Wind Waker. there are more nuanced approaches that I appreciate, but they take more work on material properties

The more I look into this the more worried I am, the website only says 2 campaigns and a versus mode. That's missing a lot of the content for the originals.

To be fair I think it is a bit more reasonable to expect some kind of 3D fidelity increase, even if it doesn't evoke the original necessarily. That's kind of the problem, the 3D stuff doesn't look very good, even if the new art style for the portraits is actually nice (animation is a bit weird on those too but hey whatever).

But yeah, it's definitely not getting delayed because of graphics. Lol. Even if it gets a slight visual upgrade, the delay is not going to be because of that haha.

I'm happy that it won't be killed by holiday madness. Hope they place it carefully because spring will have Kirby and Splatoon probably. Maybe a march title but I dunno because there's Triangle Strategy and a ton of 3rd party(and maybe Kirby after all).
April is generally slow so maybe it'll end there. May sounds like a sweet spot for Splatoon 3, just like the original.
I hope Way Forward is taking their time, avoiding crunch and making the best they can. Also polishing, enhancing the graphics and maybe adding some content too.
I was gonna say that maybe we were going to get something for December to replace it for more core consumers, but yeah it's probably only Big Brain Academy for Dec.
I wouldn't mind a port or remaster tho.

Pain

We're getting Advance Wars and Triangle Strategy at least fairly close together, and I think a new Fire Emblem in 2022 also sounds right (likely the rumored remake). That's a lotta strategy

2022 the year of the Strategy RPG! (Monark, Fire Emblem is a given I reckon, Triangle Strategy and these, although these don't have as much "RPG" in them, I guess).

Sucks. It was a big part of the reason I bought an OLED early instead of looking for a deal. Oh well. Hopefully they'll use this extra time to give it a Japanese release date.

I wonder if something else was delayed out of spring, with this game delayed to fill that gap in the release schedule.

I hope they'll use this given time to add DUAL STRIKE content. Come on, WayForward, if Rockstar can put the games in one $60 package, so can you. Dual Strike is the arguably best in the series, it has to be in there.

Wow, 2022 is going to be the best year in Nintendo Switch history. If you add rumored titles like a new Mario Kart, Fire Emblem, Mario Odyssey Sequel, and Xenoblade 3, it is a great lineup! Rip my wallet.

Definitely sad to hear. This was my most anticipated game for the rest of the year since I keep thinking Halo is going to get delayed (even with them delaying as many features as possible to make launch). I thought there was scuttlebut that they were having trouble with the online features, so I’d rather them delay it and get everything right.

Still looking forward to Blue Reflection Second Light, SMTV, Danganronpa Decadence, and Record of Lodoss War Deedlit in Wonderland for the rest of this year.

This is a good thing. The game was running fine on the E3 demo, the bulk of its systems seemed to be done, from there it should only be a matter of remaking the maps etc, so my guess is the delay is for them to improve the graphics which is great.

Yeah, the game honestly seemed really polished from what was shown at E3. Tons of little details and effects just looked really good.

So maybe this is Wayforward really going the extra mile and tuning up the graphics and reducing the blank screen time between attack animations.

It also gives Nintendo a chance to really market this game and give it its time in the spotlight. December 3rd always felt like an odd date, but an April/May release date would allow Nintendo to really go all in on the marketing for the game.

So, a question: I bought a pair of NSO game vouchers in April this year. I bought Famicom Detective Club with one of them and then used my other in June after Advance Wars was announced to preorder that. Now, if it gets delayed until May or so, do I run the risk of losing my voucher? Looking at my NSO subscription, it still shows I have 1 voucher remaining - probably because my pre-order for Advance Wars hasn't been downloaded yet.

Basically I want someone to say "No, you're good. You've preordered in plenty of time and won't lose your voucher."

Thank god. I thought nintendo was sending ir out to die. At least there's now a slim chance that it wouldn't flop.
