This is moving from a slot where I would have had plenty of time for it to 2022 which seems packed from February through Spring. Unfortunate.

While I do think this comes down to them actually needing more time to finish the game . I do think this is also scheduling related, was always weird they were gonna release two games on the same day in December when pretty much neither were needed especially as post black friday releases. Next year is obviously packed but I still think they could find somewhere it better fits still.

Yup. Or perhaps something else internally scheduled for next year ran into some trouble and Nintendo decided to delay Advance Wars to alleviate the situation. Either way, we will never know.

I genuinely forgot.

What is the other December game?
Big Brain Academy, which honestly who knows how that does considering brain age and some other game results in Japan, but definitely something I'm much happier being "dumped/sent to die" in post-black friday , right next to gta physical, period.

Very thankfull they went ahead and delayed it. The silence on this since E3, alongside the recent rumors, were giving me some real negative vibes.

Shrug not a huge delay. Guess I’ll definitely be doing Danganropa for the first time then
It’s possibly they decided to tweak, alter and polish the artstyle a bit. Maybe they added a true cel shader. The models weren’t bad but the whole style just needed a bit of tweaking

I genuinely forgot.

What is the other December game?
Danganropa decadence collection of course

Just kidding it’s big brain academy

Dang, was looking forward to playing my first Advance Wars game this year. No worries, hopefully this lets the dev team avoid crunch.

Sad to see but if the game turns out better that way I'm fine with it.

Spring just sounds like a bad time for it. With triangle strategy coming.

Very different genres, they may both have strategy but AW is more about self contained puzzles you adapt to in the moment, TS is long term development and cultivation

Christmas is ruined!

Well it is for me. Sucks, but I get it. I just feel there really isn't a good time to release this game and next year already has so many new games I want to buy.

I’m always a tad cynical when it comes to Nintendo scheduling and not sure what this delay says about the actual game’s development (could already be finished).

Either way, glad the team are taking the time to deliver a better quality product, and gives me incentive to play the original AW1/2 sooner on my RG351v.

I know I loved advance wars already on gba. Still I feel like many gamers might have to choose between them (depending what spring in the end means).
For me personally the first few month of 2022 are already really packed.

Obviously they delayed it to add Shantae and other Wayforward characters as bonus unlockable CO’s in the war room. Shantae can cause one random class of units to transform to another class.
I realized I can get Danganronpa at launch now that this is delayed.
Same, well plus my other criteria(finish Ace attorney 3) should happen this werkend

I think this is the first time a Nintendo game with a fixed date has been delayed in a while, right?

The game, graphically, did not get the best reception at E3 and being absent from this last Direct was very suspect. I’m glad it’s delayed, and I hope the extra time is spent addressing the issues people had.

Last year Famicom Detective Club (at the same still announced for Japan only) was delayed from 2020 to 2021 but yeah this is the first Nintendo game with a firm date witnessing a delay in a while. Similarly to FDC, it's a game in development with an external partner and on a lower relevance compared to their other releases. Probably that + the game legitimately needing more time + rethinking about a better time slot for its release are the reasons behind the release.

I wouldn't even exclude this game pulling off a reverse FDC: originally not announced for Japan, but later on it gets a simultaneous release date also in Japan.

That really sucks but hopefully this gives WayForward the time they need to polish up the game.

There's no way Nintendo would have had preorders up on their official store and eShop with a confirmed release date unless they were confident things would have been ready by 3rd December. Something has gone wrong in development or bugs have been found. While disappointing, I'm happy to have a more polished experience in Spring than playing a game with performance issues or rough edges at Christmas. Who knows? Maybe this extra time will allow for development of a pixel mode (a la Wonder Boy or Diablo II)? Probably not, but I really do want this game to be the best it can be.

Bummer, this was a locked in purchase for me. Well, I guess it's Big Brain Academy's time to shine! I don't know anything about it but I'm committed to buying a Nintendo game that day so here we are.

More time for me to chisel away on my backlog!

Although it's a little disappointing on a totally non-important level to break the gba-revival streak of '21

The visuals aren’t going to be changed.

Great news. It'll release at a less busy time, hopefully with some more promotion. I hope it does well.

I agree, but they can certainly be tweaked.
I don’t think tweaks are going to change what some people are taking issue with. By far the biggest criticism of the visuals is they aren’t in 2D and not using pixel art. Visuals getting improved from reveal to launch is pretty typical of Nintendo-publisher software, so I think that was a given, even before the delay.

I mean, yeah, that’d take a complete overhaul which is not at all realistic. I remember reading over and over that the models were too clean and plastic looking. That is something that is definitely addressable within their development time, and is what I was referring to with graphical tweaks.

That's a big delay. The game must have been in pretty rough shape. I was really looking forward to getting this in December, but hopefully the extra time will help make it as good as it can be.

Ahh fair enough.

Disappointing as I am very excited but hopefully their working to provide as much content as possible.

Don't understand complaints about the art at all. It looks exactly like I would expect any Advance Wars to look like.

Was on the fence about it so this gives me more time to decide whether to get it or not.

A simple shader is all it takes really

I don’t expect this game past March, and still within their FY. Hopefully not that big of a delay.

Funny, I recall the most common criticism being the flat toylike look and lack of detail. The pixel art complaints seemed to come entirely from previous Advance War players.

The art in the announcement trailer was clearly incomplete - I imagine cut scene art was close to finalized, but there were random details on some of the Orange Star units that none of the others had. Not sure if the art pipeline was the reason for the delay, and I think if there was a radical change in game look they would announce it. But there were almost definitely art changes in flight.

Ooof, this one stings, perhaps my most anticipated game in the near future.

Hopefully it'll give WayForward the time to spruce it up where necessary, and Nintendo more time to give it the marketing push it deserves.
