Pre-Release Splatoon 3 — Pre-release Discussion Thread

My only issue are really returning specials, some of them are not really great or maybe it's because I have played them ton in Splat2. Not revealing brand new mode is not that bad since for example Clam Blitz was announced in November 2017, 4 months after the game was released.

I'm a fan of the returning specials mostly, because I think they brought back all the well designed ones in Splatoon 2 (except missiles lmao)

I think unless it's not even the same special anymore, tenta missiles' core design is flawed to the point where no nerfing or reworking would fix it, just like Stingray in Splatoon 2. Just it being a global special that can safely displace anyone from anywhere on the map is enough to ruin it imo. It simply doesn't fit in with the rest of the specials in Splatoon 3.

I watched the Direct with the friend who got me into Splatoon and he was bewildered and annoyed by my immediate Tenta Missiles malding

I realized, we still don't actually know how you squid roll and surge. It can't be L, and even if L is the new map button X seems unlikely too. A is still used for throwing in multiple gamemodes, and everything else is taken or awkward to press. My only theory from this screenshot is that you press the left stick to switch X between Menu and Roll/Surge in the shooting range?

I have no idea how surge works, but I assumed roll was performed by going 180 in swim and jumping

I just want to play it already so I can test it out, damn. Doing Splatfest demo 17 days after announcement might be the biggest insult by gaming company in the last decade, I literally screamed fuck you.

Here is my tier list based on how likely I think each weapon is to be playable in the Splatfest Premiere :) the Tri-Stringer and both Splatanas are also in guaranteed

Maybe a few shooters could be knocked down from Likely, however it really is a toss up for those.

After Jet got stripped of Stingray, I need to get my hands on the Custom Jet to see what special it received as soon as possible. I will pay all the Sheldon licenses for it!

It's just good Ink Storm is still in the game, so I still have my comfort special in one ranked mode - if not in Tower Control, then at least in Splatzones.

I really hope Cjet has burst bomb with an aggressive special to emulate burst + kraken from Splatoon 1, since the default one seems to have line marker (sorry, never calling it angle shooter) and ink vac

Burst Bombs would be a nice, fun, reliable back-up until I'm sure what to think of Line Marker. I'd take almost any Special as long as I can once again build a set around long range bursts with Sub Power Up.

I’m very interested in seeing what the stage rollout will be like. It doesn’t seem like Shifty Station is returning, so that plus the theoretically shortened development time to port stages from 2 to 3 should result in a pretty beefy lineup. Also like how the early focus is to bring over Splatoon 1 stages that didn’t appear in Splatoon 2. We’re only waiting on Urchin Underpass, Saltspray Rig, and Bluefin Depot, and then every single Splatoon stage will be playable in some capacity on Switch.

Leaning too heavily into the returning stages would be criticized pretty heavily though, so I’m very curious to see what the final count looks like. 30+ seems pretty reasonable, which would be quite the improvement from previous games.

I don't really want Saltspray back, but... that Big Run thing is the perfect opportunity right? People have been half-jokingly asking for Saltspray Rig to be turned into a Salmon Run stage for years

Also, as a competitive player I'm mixed on having too many stages, but that's just bc the community can't get its shit together and decide on a maplist lol

ZL+ZR with the latter disabling shooting when ZL is maintained, I guess...

For missiles I bet they will remove its ability to track enemies, instead just telling you how many things are being targeted but not what you're targeting and where, which will make it still very powerful in the right hands but relatively reliant on being aware of your surroundings, using the map, or having useful teammates. Along with not having it on nearly as many kits since it's a returning special in a game with a significantly larger roster of specials should make it much more tolerable.

I really do hope they remove the most problematic parts. I think the 2 main things I want gone is the ability to charge the next missiles before the other ones have even landed, and the tracking ability.

Your lack of love for the N-Zap.

That is my most used weapon. Between this ink coverage and accuracy, I love it. Not the strongest for damage, but I always hard focus on inking and a sneaky sky splat when I see an opening.

Ending a stressful as fuck week with some Salmon Run, easily my favorite horde mode in a game ever. This game hasn’t aged a fucking day, though perhaps that’s because it has grown out of the biggest complaints I had day one with all of the post launch support.

The number of hours I have on Splatoon 2 is honestly embarrassing to admit, it should be way way higher. Ah the pitfalls of a console filled to the brim with games to play and me playing mostly offline and on-the-go for a lot of my early pre-pandemic switch life I suppose. I’m ready to remedy this with the third game.

Question for the super fans - where’s a straightforward comparison I can see that shows the difference in graphics between the two titles? I saw a post earlier about how things have improved but to the untrained eye I think I’m viewing 3 with rose-colored glasses and not noticing much.

Did you keep the kits in mind? If so do you think every special will be there? I could see them leaving some of the returning ones out. Also, I think Tetra Dualies is all but guaranteed. It got a lot of showtime in the Splatfest trailer segment, same goes for Dynamo

Listening to Anarchy Rainbow all day every day until the next Deep Cut banger drops, who gave this song the right to be so good

Hopefully, they bring all the previous stages to Splatoon 3, before their two-year roadmap ends, because I doubt Splatoon 2 will be getting played again, for many.

I did somewhat keep the kits in mind yeah. I put dynamo in likely, but I think it is almost guaranteed. For tetras I'm not so sure, since it is one of the more advanced dualies, but you could argue it's pretty likely.

it's not about the amount of content, it's about the content being basically the same as the last game

this is Splatoon 1.75, you can meme this point of view all you want but it's the truth

Like I said I lost interest in this game and am not buying it, no interest in debating anything about it, so am out
You're clearly just trolling, now.

Some cool fanarts :)

This one is great and 100% SFW but it's flagged as sensitive because the rest of the account has nsfw content: https://twitter.com/wamudraws/status/1557454988305174529

That’d be neat, but that’s 30 maps alone right there, 23 post launch, without even considering Shifty Station. I can’t imagine we get all of those plus 10+ new maps.

Having access to Salmon Run at any time you want is a real mega ton and it is honestly bizarre why this wasn't always the case.

What a great horde mode. Probably the best one I have ever played.

I can't imagine they won't bring it back in DLC. It's one of Splatoon's most unique and iconic stages.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the only Splatoon 1 maps that return are the ones that don’t come back in Splatoon 2. Then in Splatoon 4, the returning Splatoon 2 maps are the ones that didn’t return in Splatoon 3, and so forth.

Feels like a nice compromise to prevent an overload of returning maps.

Man I wish the Splatfest was this weekend, I am chomping at the bit to try the new weapons and QOL after playing more Splatoon 2 recently.

Same here! Since you can preload the premiere, I used my Australian alt account alongside my main to claim it too, in the hopes it's a midnight unlock so I can do the pre splatfest phase earlier 😅

Overanalysis:

This looks fucking amazing graphics-wise. Some direct footage looked rough, but this is very reassuring.
Where is the ink tank? Is it in that open box in front of the inkling?
Very glad you don't start with that butt ugly neon yellow shirt again.
Seems like the controls that are present there are all still the same.

Anyone have kit wishlists for Splatoon 3? Here's 4 I want:

Made with https://yagaa.itch.io/yagas-weapon-kit-generator
I basically main a weapon in every class so... (I know, probably one of the main reasons I always cap around 2100 in X Rank)

Explosher: Toxic Mist + Wave Breaker (not much to say, the option to slow down and track opponents just fits this weapon perfectly)
Tetra Dualies: Toxic Mist + Inkjet (2fast4u + Inkjet has already been proven as a perfect match for Dualies)
Splattershot Pro: Torpedo + Trizooka
Octobrush: Torpedo + Ultra Stamp
(increase options when going for diversions and stealthy plays)
Dynamo Roller: Burst Bomb + Reefslider (I wanna be able to go for ultra aggressive plays with it)
Ballpoint Splatling: Line Marker + Booyah Bomb
Splatana Stamper: Curling Bomb + Zipcaster
(pushing spawn and flanking with a chainsaw? hell yeah)
Range Blaster: Fizzy Bomb + Big Bubbler
Splat Brella: Burst Bomb + Ink Vac
Splat Charger: Splash Wall + Crab Tank
Tri-Stringer: Squid Beakon + Tacticooler
