Pre-Release Splatoon 3 — Pre-release Discussion Thread

Nice to hear for those of us who enjoy Ranked and Competitive play.

Can we even transfer our Splatoon 2 save data from one Switch to another if I didn't transfer my account ? Like, I still use the same account, but I did it "manually" without transfering it. And then I just downloaded all the save datas from the cloud.

Among the games that don't have cloud saves (Animal Crossing, the Pokémon games and Splatoon 2), Splatoon 2 is the only one I didn't succeed to transfer my save datas to my Switch Oled... Still have my OG Switch, so if there is indeed a way, I would be glad to know. Splatoon 2 just doesn't show up in my list of save datas to transfer from one switch to another (funnily enough, save datas from Splatest 2 do show up though lol...)

All I can find online is the technique to transfer your account to your new Switch.

Uuh lots of people liking the Nickelodeon Smash clone and Multiversus nowadays. You could even say Stardew Valley is in the same niche as AC...

Yes, but Smash, Mario Kart and AC completely dominate their genres. Splatoon 2 performed very well but I'm questioning whether Splatoon 3, with what we've seen so far, can match its performance.

Splatoon is a multiplayer game for people who put hundreds of hours into multiplayer

single player is a training mode, nothing more
I was expecting something different after the DLC in Splatoon 2. Everyone can enjoy games differently and it is ok when Multiplayer is the major appeal of the game, but personally I think there is still a lot of potential in the theme and world building the game has. It is not like that everything was known in advance nor that Splatoon 3 really will be just a iterative update. I’m happy for those who will enjoy it, but I can still find out if a game is for me or not by watching a direct and then say it is nothing for me, ok? That‘s why these deep dive presentations exist.

I found the direct a little boring but it’s more Splatoon so I’m excited. I also really do like the look of the new idols especially Frye (I like the droopy Look of the eyes and ears).

I’m also personally just excited for the game to reinvigorate the player base and for me to finally get the the chance to play one of these games at launch with wifi that won’t constantly drop me out of matches.

Man, the signs were there, but it's crazy to me that Splatoon of all things can create this much toxic discussion.

You don't have to be a fanboy to be excited for what's on the table here.

Being disappointed this isn't more imaginative doesn't mean you weren't a fan to begin with.

It's more of the same overall, but that doesn't make it unworthy of the number 3.

It's possible people previously not very interested in Splatoon expected meatier single player content than we appear to be getting, and are let down that it's still not for them.

Chill out with the absolutes.

Splatoon 3 discussions are already miserable. Personally hoping now that BotW 2 never releases lol.

But the difference between Splatoon and Zelda, is that Nintendo take a very 'all-hands-on-deck' approach to the latter, BotW2 will undergo many delays that the final version will hardly resemble the original vision, or BotW 1. Heck, look at the difference between Majora's Mask and The Wind Waker, we haven't seen anything close to resembling such a dramatic shift in Splatoon 3.

My core argument is that Nintendo should treat Splatoon more like Zelda and Mario, rather than treating it like MK, Animal Crossing, Smash.

Anarchy Battle (Series)

In Anarchy Battle (Series), work together with a random team to get multiple wins to rake in the points.

Hey, not so fast, there! You do need to sacrifice some Rank Points (compatible with your own rank) as a fee of sorts. You'll pay up, then match up with teammates of similar ranks and skill levels.

Opposing teams are not only based on rank, but also the number of wins in the current challenge.

After battle, stick with your current team or pause the challenge and come back later.

The challenge will continue until you've won five times or lost three times. Then Rank Points will be doled out. You get more Rank Points the more you win, naturally. But getting medals is another way to get some Rank Points.

We ran the numbers, and we found that higher ranks require more points to challenge, but they provide greater point rewards.

Hah, just saw that myself after following the link @Epidemic dropped in the other thread.

Other interesting stuff:

FUTURE UPDATE: CONNECT VIA KEYWORDS

A notification channel will be added in a post-launch update. Simply put in a general keyword like #TurfWarSquids or #SplatZoneFans to connect to a channel. This way, you'll be able to interact with ghosts of players who are using the same keyword.

If many participants are in one channel, you may not be able to interact with all ghosts.

TWO BRAND-NEW ABILITIES DISCOVERED

Our research shows that the Main Power Up and Bomb Defense Up DX abilities don't appear in Splatoon 3. However, further deep dives into our data point to previously unseen abilities being used across the Splatlands.

Sub Resistance Up ability

Mitigate effects from an opponent's sub weapon with this recently discovered ability. Depending on the situation, you might take less damage from bombs and sprinklers, resist effects from mists, or reduce the time spent marked.

Gear star power
Remarkably, gear star power in Splatsville can actually go higher than ★★★. You won't get more than three secondary ability slots, but you will earn a little more experience with that gear. You'll also get ability chunks faster, so don't be afraid to raise the star power of your fashion…literally.

See something in the shop you already have? You could try picking up a duplicate to increase its star power. Swim by the shops daily to see the new lineup. And Murch is always on the lookout for some Super Sea Snails, so feel free to check in with him for raising star power.

MURCH ALSO HAS AN ALL-NEW SKILL IN SPLATSVILLE—HE CAN SWAP OUT THE PRIMARY ABILITY. HE'LL NEED A LOT OF ABILITY CHUNKS THOUGH!

I repeat

MURCH ALSO HAS AN ALL-NEW SKILL IN SPLATSVILLE—HE CAN SWAP OUT THE PRIMARY ABILITY. HE'LL NEED A LOT OF ABILITY CHUNKS THOUGH!

Also has more information about customization, including from Salmon Run and related to Splatfests.

You have to do the local user transfer, IIRC.

It's less people being disappointed and more people trotting out the same old lines.

"It looks just like Splatoon 2!"

Yeah, should've looked like Gears of War. It's a sequel on the same console with the same style of gameplay. It's the third game in the series, it's a known quantity now. Why should Nintendo treat it like Zelda? Zelda is single-player. Splatoon isn't.

My thoughts:
  • There are a lot of QoL updates that are great, such as replays and the ability to explore maps before playing online.
  • The extensive customization options are very good for those who make use of them. I never use such features in any game.
  • Tableturf Battle looks interesting.
  • Big Run and the Tricolor Battles have a lot of potential, unfortunately they are time-bound modes.
  • That the various Ranked Battle Modes still change depending on the time and thus are not separately playable at any time.... That's a pity.
  • I would have liked a new multiplayer mode. There is so much potential, something with base building for example. But I expect there will be an update with a new mode after launch. Clam Blitz wasn't originally in Splatoon 2 either.

The difference between Gears 1 and Gears 3 is on another level to between Splatoons 1 and 3, we'd be lucky if Splatoon got the Gears treatment.

I mean you don't know that, for all we know botw2 could be just like splatoon3, a more of the same sequel.

The difference is that Splatoon has a competitive scene and Nintendo wants to support that too. They are hosting championships and so on. It was always presented as a multiplayer focussed team shooter. I really don't know why it needs to be like Zelda.

most online shooters don't even launch with a singleplayer aynmore. I get being disappointed after 5 years but your comparisons don't really make sense.

Boring and unnecessary sequel, as far as I'm concerned. Unlike Splatoon 2, which had the justification to be on a new console at least.
5 years for that...

That's whack, it should be listed there. If you load it up, is your old save data there?

For what it's worth there is strong reason to believe that they are doing something along those lines with this campaign, they just haven't gone out of their way to show much of that aspect of it.

I‘m not disappointed but was hoping for a bigger jump as a sequel. It is ok that it is just more Splatoon and from how they expanded the current modes, updated it visually and new weapons/clothes/maps + free updates it is definitely worth the money. Still I can have my personal opinion of that it would be cool to have more story (maybe even in a spin off) or other new modes. The game will for sure sell a lot though and I‘m glad for everyone who will enjoy it.

That's on Nintendo if a stronger single player campaign is a make or break feature for anyone though. They really should've shown more, contrary to my earlier comments.

Personally, I don't think it'll be as imaginative as Octo Expansion, but it will probably have enough new be the best of the three main campaigns.

Yeah of course, I will definitely wait for reviews before I judge the story (on wha its focus will be). I just thought how they spoke of it, it seems to be more like Splatoon 2 and that we‘ll maybe get a bigger single player thing in paid dlcs.

I feel exactly the same way about Overwatch lol.

as someone who only played 1 I sure as hell didn't see the differences at first glance back then. And thats fine.
So...

the best idol duo comes back? consider me hyped for the DLC

and fuck, this was a bad time to lose all my save files of splatoon 2
Oof, that's rough! I'd worried about that happening to me as well when the fan on my launch Switch failed. I know it won't help for getting the rank transfer, but it might at least be worth at least creating another save in hopes of getting the license bonuses for a head start?

I'd have to double check since it has been awhile since my household moved to multiple Switches, but I do believe it was based around the proper account transfer since the saves in 2 were tied to the account on that specific hardware.

You can transfer the individual save locally.

Although im not impressed by splatoon 3, i think perhaps after allcthe updates it may become a v cool game in my book, so theres that at least :)

Something strikers was never going to be.

They already showed that you don't have to wait for the news to get in game.
thanks. couldn't really tell if the phone was just for news changes while playing the game already or not.
