Sora is quite fun. I'm glad he's in the game, but I'm sad to see Smash come to an end. What a trip Ultimate has been. Hell, what a trip Smash has been in the past decade when Smash 4 was announced.
Im ashamed to have only put just under 40 hours into it somehow. I haven’t really done much in person gaming with friends or multiplayer at all since it released, and that I did wasn’t on my own console I guess… but time to dive back into spirit collecting!

That's a little tough when they're both attacking you at lightning speed. Even then, I still feel like I'm doing no damage as neither of them seem to die from them

I'll try that but damn is this shit way too difficult
If you're in the room I assume you're in, drag one down to the lower level, use Flash Shift and go to the very top level. Immediately start charging the multi missile. Rinse and repeat.

Its similar for me, but not specifically due to Covid.

I had almost 300 hours in Smash 3DS, 70 for Wii U, but I've put about 180 iirc for Smash Ultimate. I chalk it up to playing many more different games since Ultimate came out than when Smash 3DS/Wii U was out.

I'll admit even using the method I described it felt for a while like I wasn't doing any damage.. right up until the first guy blew up. So have faith, and good luck!

Well, thanks guys, that finally helped. But I still wanna do untold indescribable acts of torture to the people who designed these boss fights. Haven't raged at a game this much since Celeste

Maybe you'll feel better if you convince yourself they're the ones who were omitted from the credits?

...should I just give up on Metroid Dread? These two Chozo Soldiers at once is fucking impossible to the point where it straight up feels unfair. Now every boss has been pretty hard for me so far but I feel like I'm at my rope here. No way to cheese through them, as far as I can see
I basically focused on one soldier snd let the other just chase me. One is gold and another is black so easy to tell apart. I would lure them to the bottom, jump up and flash shift to the side platform then jump to the top. Then I would just shoot missiles when they came up. Just jump over and flash shift. Then fire again. When both get to the top, you go down below and repeat. After a couple of deaths you start to figure out the timing for all of this. It helps when they are on the top platform to let them use their sliding melee attack so you can jump over them and land missile shots.

Smash hype cycle doesn't end, it just takes little naps.

In four to five years time there will be a surprise trailer revealing yet another one, with like Master Chief, Nintendog, Pauline & Cappy, and Goku from Dragonball or something. And everyone will be right back into their madness talking bout who got cut and why it's actually not breaking any of the rules that Goku is in now and where's Waluigi?!

I've seen it too many times before...

Perhaps it might. Might even think they were just unpaid interns as well

Four to five years is a long time. The wait between the end of Smash 4 and the announcement of Ultimate was only two years by comparison.

Because Brawl->Smash 4 was also a long wait (3.5 years from Brawl's release to Smash 4 announcement), people may not realize that Smash usually comes and goes and doesn't come back for a long time.

I feel old just typing this lol

I am old so four to five years just feels like nothing anymore lol

It's kinda terrifying ngl

Yeah... the Switch has quite a fucking line-up and we've been absolutely spoiled in general this generation in gaming.

This too.... the Switch gen has flown by for me as it's overlapped with graduating, getting engaged, moving twice... 😱

That said, I couldn't have asked for a better console to have gone through that all with. I've kept gaming throughout it in a way I couldn't have imagined back on the Wii U.

Never imagined I'd use this thing as much as I have either, gotta be my most played system. I'll be lost if they go in some radical direction again next.

Personally, it feels both long and short. Time is just weird.
This is true. When things are stressful a week can feel like a month.

Then you go reminiscing about said stressful week and realize it was half a decade ago now and just think... wtf

I kinda wish I could afford/justify the OLED to myself, just for the larger screen. I’m on a Lite and having to zoom just to read menu text in some games is irritating.

finally returned to monkey ball after being sucked into dread for a while and damn, it’s still so good

why’d I even subscribe to game pass, the hits don’t stop coming and I’m not getting to anything on it lol

Eastward doesn't seem to be the most stable game ever unfortunately, especially towards the latter half of the game. I actually restarted it before the final boss to try to mitigate the risk of a crash.

I had a couple of crashes early on in the game - then it was patched and I didnt experience any crashes until the final boss. Which was a bit frustrating heh

Fun fact, the soundtrack is by Toto! Even more fun fact, they turned down Top Gun for it! A yet more fun fact, David Paich of Toto actually changed the key of Danger Zone and did some arrangement tweaks that remained in the final version. Final fun fact, neither Toto nor Kenny Loggins have co-writing credits with composer Georgio Moroder to abide by a technicality in the Academy Award requirements for original scores! I have all of this worthless knowledge retained!

That's more info about Toto than I expected to learn lifetime.

All interesting though. Thank you!

I know we've talked about what your favorite OST of the year is so far, but to change it up a little: What is the OST that's made you FEEL things the most? Because for me, hoo boy is it Ender Lilies:

The game has some issues, but in terms of setting a mood: Melancholy, rain-drenched, sad piano, haunting light vocals, and pathos: it is unmatched.

I really hope Seth Rogan's performance as DK in the Mario Movie is anywhere near as endearing as this.

Also, Angelina Jolie would make a pretty good Samus? Something to keep in mind if Nintendo ever ends up pulling off the Smash Initiative.

Dear Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Morag doesn't need to be an emotionless robot to be badass

Nier series always has elite tier OST's.

Reincarnation brings the feels <3

I was never the biggest smash fan but the hype got me so I bought it day 1. Sadly for me it also didn't lasted that long. I wasn't motivated enough to really learn a character and become better and the singleplayer just wasn't good enough for me.

That said I'm gonna download it now again and maybe play a few rounds it's been awhile.

Famiboards is founded.

Playstation 5 ends the record breaking 33 months of Switch being best selling console in US markets.

I am not pointing any fingers here, but there does seem to be strong causality.

We killed Nintendo! Buried it and then stuffed its body in the freezer 😭😭😭

I'm pretty sure there actually is a way to cheese it by building up a shinespark when you enter from the previous room. That takes the majority of health from one of them if you can connect it.

I was banned on GAF for "hive mind mentality" (IE being a Nintendo fan) and basically just stopped posting on Era for about 2 years in 2019 and then again after they kept trying to kill any discussion on Nintendo Directs or any Nintendo speculation at all.

Whoa - good to see you, Ace. It feels like the gang is back together.

So what do we think is actually coming from Nintendo in 2022-2023.

It seems like Nintendo is really focusing on Switch-Sequels until the end of the Switch's lifespan, but will anything else really jump out?

Nintendo really played their hand by being awesome and posting most of their major franchises, but I really wonder where they can go from here.

Also! Congratulations Mod @mazi. You are amazing, and you are so deserving to lead this community.

Things that have been confirmed
  • Pokemon Legends
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land
  • Splatoon 3
  • Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
Rumored things
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3
  • Fire Emblem

Those all feel like pretty big releases (Especially if you add Mario + Rabbids and Triangle Strategy), so I'm guessing the remaining stuff will be smaller, maybe more unexpected stuff.

  • Metroid Prime Remaster - If MP4 is 2023, then I guess 2022 is the best time for this..
  • Random 3DS Port - They've pretty much exhausted the Wii U, so maybe pad the lineup with something from the 3DS
  • Mario & Luigi RPG - No idea who would be making it, but I hope they haven't given up on this series.

We weren't around to keep SonyEra in check smh my head

Starting to pull together a list of games I want to play around Christmas holidays - be good to hear what everyone else is planning too, or if any thoughts on the games I'm lining up!

I'm skipping Mario Party as barely played the last release. I'm also not a huge Pokemon fan - I've skipped Let's Go, SwSh and will skip DiPe. I did get Snap and I'll get Legends in Jan, so yea, nothing major on the horizon for the holidays - hence the list !

The Christmas Playlist (so far)

Horizon Chase Turbo - going to save the Senna F1 DLC

Gleylancer - heard good things and it's cheap!

Eastward - already bought, just saving it

Ori & The Will Of The Wisps - already bought, been saving it

Animal Crossing - will dip in and out

Mario Sunshine - abandoned it last December... mostly due to Mario overload after 64, Galaxy, 35, Maker and 3D World, but also because it's infuriating at times.

Lylat Wars - hopefully we will get some more N64 games during Nov and Dec, but I'm going to save Star Fox and only play the other titles at launch.

I really want to try Ori sometime, but I barely have time to finish Metroid Fusion atm, and can't think when I'd find time to play another Metroidvania alongside Dread

I didn't quite like Ori And the Blind Forest but Will of the Wisp was very good.

I don't know if it's just me but I see a lot of Ocarina of Time inspiration in this game.

Don’t forget Bayonetta 3. Also, if we can get those games + a new Donkey Kong, or Pikmin 4, man, it’ll be a hell of a year for me.

Good morning fam

I have played some games this morning and have some thoughts:

1) Sora is kinda fun

2) I have completed that Sega Picross game’s main mode, now I gotta do the clip/color picross and try (again) to figure out Mega Picross.

3) Now that we know what’s coming to Animal Crossing 2.0 in a few weeks, AC as it currently exists feels wildly empty. Like playing it now, now that I know what’s coming, feels like… it feels empty? But I will not stop playing literally every day as I have been doing.
