Pre-Release Bayonetta 3 — Pre-release Discussion Thread

Yeah, if she was truly out, there likely wouldn't be a NDA stopping her from talking freely about it in the first place.

Like, when the Dynasty Warriors vocal cast from 5-8 all got replaced for DW9? They let us know how unhappy they were about it. When Roger Craig Smith wasn't going to be Chris Redfield any longer, as well as the shortlived drama regarding "will he or won't he be back?" regarding Sonic, we were made aware. Sudden recasting is an unfortunate, but common thing in western voice acting.

But the whole thing regarding Taylor and Bayo3 just comes off as so odd, I can't help but think there's more to it. Or she's just fucking with us, which I'm thinking is much more likely by the day.
One thing that would make sense as far as her being back but also posting all these cryptic tweets (like a month or so ago when she was saying we "might have to" live without her as Bayonetta), could be that she's back as Bayo, Bayo dies, and Cereza takes over the fight. So Helena might be done, but can't say anything because she does have a few lines before her Bayo is sent off. I dunno. Maybe. ..It's classified.

If she was on the project in any capacity she probably wouldn't be saying anything at all. In all likelihood she's just unhappy to not have been called back for the role and wants to air her grievance without straight up burning bridges.

But that's the thing, though. In practically every other case of a character/cast being recast, there's none of this "beating around the bush". You're either in, or you're out. There may be some salt, but even the VA(s) themselves usually keeps it moving in a tactful way.

They don't do...whatever Taylor is doing.

If I’m being honest Taylor’s tweets don’t make sense.

Like, language wise. I don’t understand what she’s trying to say in some of these sentences.

So I’m going to try and not read into it too much

Does anyone recall an interview/article when Bayo 3 was announced that alluded to it possibly being the last game in the series? I can't find it for the life of me now, but I distinctly remember reading something about Bayo 3 being the "climax to the series" or something and I remember being surprised that that...wasn't being spoken about. Maybe I read it wrong, or maybe it was something lost in translation.

I unfortunately don't remember anything like that but instead I definitely remember Kamiya saying he would Bayonetta 4 or something like that. Or heck, I could be remembering wrong too lol.

I don't remember anything about this being the last game. If Nintendo or Sega are willing to continue, there will be a fourth game

I'm thinking I probably misinterpreted whatever it was that I read, I just can't actually seem to find the article/interview. The thing I read didn't flat out say "this is the last game," it was something more along the lines of "this is the climax to the Bayonetta story" or something. If they had suggested it was the final game in the series I'm sure there would have been a lot of talk about it, so it is most likely that I just misinterpreted it.

interview with IGN
“If you look at the [trailer we released in September]," he said, "hopefully that should reassure you that we have been hard at work on development, and it should also show you that there are a lot of new elements in this game that were not in Bayonetta 1 and 2. I hope the footage released so far will fuel your expectations for this game.”

“At the beginning of the trailer," he continued, "viewers might have been confused about what game it was for, and then we introduced some enemies, and still it was kept unclear, and then Bayonetta appeared. I think the fact that we were able to pull off this misdirection in the trailer shows that the new game has its own colour. Bayonetta 3 looks a little different, and it includes some new types of gameplay, so I hope players will find it fresh.”
Kamiya also sought to play down some fears from fans that Nintendo's role as publisher meant that Platinum would be forced to tone down some of Bayonetta's more adult elements: "When we released the previous trailer, some fans thought that maybe working with Nintendo had meant we were under some kind of restrictions in terms of creative expression, but that is absolutely not the case. This will be a very Bayonetta-esque Bayonetta game."

Honestly I can't say what was shown in September's trailer instilled in me too much confidence. Watched it again now just to be sure, perhaps it's just not for me, or I may have outgrown the franchise.

Given recent announcements about Platinum's direction going forward, I wouldn't be surprised if it is.

All that pivoting away from 'well-designed' games and embracing live service trash doesn't bode well for Bayo.

I feel like there is a nearly complete overlap between people who claim Nintendo consoles are for "kiddies" and people who complain about games being "woke". The hobby must be miserable for them.

I wonder how well Bayonetta 3 might perform on Switch since seeing the trailer, I can't get feeling that again they will go graphics over solid frame rate while Astral Chain is exception with frame rate locked to 30 since it isn't Bayonetta.

all those effects will crater the framerate, certainly

Glad to hear at least one mention about Bayo 3.

When we finally hear the official battle theme that'll be an exciting day!

kamiya tweets asking people to play 1&2 before 3
twitter thread by kamiya

DeepL translation:
Somehow I wanted to say this again, but if you are thinking of playing "Bayonetta 3", I hope you will play "Bayonetta 1" and "Bayonetta 2" while you are at it! I think you will enjoy the story 100 times more that way...

In "Bayonetta 2," we intentionally created a story that can be enjoyed no matter which order you played the first and second games. However, for "Bayonetta 3", we have written a scenario that assumes that the player has experienced 1 and 2, because we believe that the recognition of the game has spread enough and we want to make the world view more profound. We encourage everyone to play the game in preparation!

If there is anyone around you who has not experienced Bayo 1 or 2, please tell them that if they want to play 3, they should play 1 and 2. thanks in advance.

The reason why I say this now is because the release date is decided by Udontenni, so we can't say anything, but the PV said "2022" (←other people), so if we believe that (←other people), there is not that much time before the release of 3, so we want you to enjoy 1 and 2 with enough time to spare.

Predictable future: "Yes!

"Yay, Bayo 3 on sale! Buy it!"
↓↓↓↓↓
"Oh, I'll play the first one first. Buy!"
↓Buy!
"Wind...clear...let's do 2 next. Purchase.
Buy." ↓ "Wind...full...
"Fu...full..."
↓ "Buy
......
↓ "I'm going to play Splat 3.
"Let's play Splat 3."

and because of this, I personally think that the so-called "123 set edition" is unnecessary (at least at the time of the release of 3). or rather, it would spoil the enjoyment of the game. I have talked about this before. We at Platinum Games do not have any authority over the sales method anyway.

If it's been a long time since the release of Bayo 3, and that's right around the time of the release of Bayo 4, "Series Review 123 Set Released!" I can understand that...

This was my favorite bit:

Kamiya's such a goober.
* gets blocked *

I have no idea what Kamiya is saying or what prompted this series of tweets. Bayo 1+2 have been available for ages, I’m sure anyone who wanted to play them had plenty of time. Is there a 1+2+3 collection or something?

So basically what he's saying is that the release date has been decided and that it's stil 2022?

i think he's saying a collection would be pointless (and is saying stop asking me cuz it's not up to us) cuz no one's gonna play all three back to back?

maybe it's just me reading too much into it but i get the vibe that the game has been ready for a while and he's not happy that nintendo hasn't released it yet.

Well we're seeing it again this month. Hell I'd even love a Twitter direct rundown of the game as it gets closer to its fall release.

Ah, so he was replying to fan requests. That makes more sense.

I’d be very surprised if this were the case.

Famiboards is a civilized forum, you know

I guess I will have to read up on the story of the first Bayo games before jumping into 3 then. That's good to know.

It has been a while since I played them, so I have forgotten a lot of details.

Bayonetta is a strange story, I remember pretty much every character interaction but almost nothing of the overall lore and plot.

I just want Bayo to girlboss, Cheshire to be a funny loser and Enzo to speak with a thick accent.

Really hope this game's gonna be good. Not gonna lie, the trailer didn't give me that much hope. It spent too much time on the fake-out and barely had any of the sexy and funny stuff Bayonetta is known for.

Bayo 2 also had some issues with its story, where most humor came from Bayo 1 running gags and the rest took itself way too seriously. Compared to Bayo 1 where every cutscene was a masterpiece (maybe save for Father Balder's monologue) full of funny and memorable moments.

I really hope its good please be good

Crossing my fingers for an October release, let the spell be cast next to Halloween. (I won't complain if we get an August release tho).

Yes, reveal trailer wasn't particularly hot

The trailer seemed like a short glimpse of some concepts of the game really.

I believe we'll get a much better trailer next week.

Rated M for Violence, Blood and Gore, Partial Nudity, Strong Language. In game purchases.
