The buyout has since been approved and MPG has already changed their logo to feature TPCi in it. It's funny to see. They won't be exclusively doing pokemon cards

Unless Grezzo is working on two projects, things are curently pointing to a brand new game (not a remaster/remake).

I don't think we can be 100% on that yet.
I guess there's a chance, but it's repeatedly being referred to as an "original new work" with none of the "would you like to work on a legend?" messages they did for TFH/LA.

Is there another existing Nintendo series that would fit a "stylish medieval" action game?

What if they're working on the new Mana game with Square lol

Based on the boss battle planner position they began hiring for in April I think it's safe to assume that this isn't another straight remake ala Link's Awakening. Description could certainly fit 2D Zelda but also applies just as much to something like Ever Oasis or, hell, Mana. Will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Surely we can expect news on the next Good-Feel project soon? It's been three years since Crafted World...

Although I won't lie I'd love a port of Wooly World on the Switch with the new content from the 3DS version

Is Good-Feel is working on a 1st-Party project right now, though? I thought they were self-publishing a few projects.

As much as I enjoy The Lost Age, Golden Sun is pretty much Comfort Food: The JRPG. I don't think there's much benefit in bringing it back in this day and age without some fundamental changes to the world, its characters etc. and to give it some flavour. The only thing the series has going for it compared to everything else out there is that the dungeons are more involved but that's it. A remake of the first two could serve as good nostalgia bait (and I'm still of the opinion that Tokyo RPG Factory would be a good candidate for this because they already have a solid blueprint) but beyond that they'd have to think about where to go next. Camelot clearly can't handle a new one.

almost forgot theres another hal laboratory, there must be a new kirby game pretty soon from this team :

I'm looking forward to seeing what this game will be. Hoping for a substantial and unique SP game like Mass Attack or Canvas/Rainbow Curse.

Nintendo should partner up with Clap Hanz to co-develop Camelot games.
I've said this too. Now that Sony seemingly don't want them anymore, why not reunite them with their old buds at Camelot where the dev spawned from in the first place? I'm sure Clap Hanz doing key support/co-dev work on the next Mario Golf and Tennis would be a godsend for Camelot.

they got even smaller than camelot after being dropped by sony, with a staff of 21 and only 2 former camelot devs it wouldnt be much help, funnily, 1-UP snagged lead staff from both studios

I don't think Camelot has an issues getting help from the outside thanks to Nintendo.

Oh shit, did they? Were any of the Camelot staff that left recently among them? Which Camelot and Clap Hanz staff in particular if you're able to answer?

if a team of 37 wasnt enought, camelot was a side hustle making apps and webdesign

Saw this on twitter and I am not surprise with the list since it is rare Nintendo shows their hand in advance. I guess leaks wont make it in a list like this.

Counting Mario Kart 8 DLC as a “game” is kinda silly.

Xenoblade 3 hype!!
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 barely counts as in development, either; it'll be done, unless you count DLC.

Plus, you could add at least 3 games on the basis of the EPD hiring calls.

I swear every time Monolith hires people Camelot starts losing some.
If that is true then Camelot has 2 years of live left. I also wonder when/if Monolith Soft will stop growing, they are getting to a point that they are becoming slowly one of the biggest individual studios in Japan.

They did say they wanted to become the Bethesda of Japan. So maybe they'll stop at 1000

Wouldnt that mean being around the size of Nintendo EPD used to be? I know they are investing also a ton of money to expand EPD so EPD should also grow a lot but the idea of Monolith Soft being as big as old EPD seems really weird to me, I think is realistic but I would have never imagined such a thing 10 years ago

I dont think it will happen. Xenoblade games dont have the pull that bethesda games have. Yes they are helping nintendo a lot but i dont think their plans are to reach 1000 in the next years lol. I think for the next 4 years they will hit 400 employees which is already immense for nintendo levels, but certainly not bethesda levels.

in 4 years some of nintendo`s studios should look like this (because im lazy and wont be listing everyone lol)

Monolith - somewhere around 400
NLG - somewhere around 180
IntSys - somewhere around low to mid 300
Retro - discounting contracts they should be around 230 to 280, probably not 300. Unless after mp4 they start expanding heavily then they will start expanding very quick lol
Greezo - 120
NST - Depending on if nintendo trusts them to handle decent sized games again, may be somewhere around 120 to 140
Hal - Probably high 200s to low 300s

HAL posted links to their upcoming CEDEC talks
They are doing 4 talks primarily related to Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Sound with Yuta Ogasawara, Yuki Shimooki and Takashi Nemoto
Art Direction with Riki Fuhrmann and Daisuke Morishita
Procedural Generation with Ayumu Kato
System and Tool Development with Hiroaki Nakano, Tomokazu Tsuruoka and Yuya Suzuki

Tsuruoka's profile message says that HAL changed their scripting language from Mint (a proprietary language they announced in 2019) to Basil, their new C# based system.

Kinda late for the Golden Sun discussion, by my two cents is, that Camelot/Nintendo could give the series to an indie devs.

Sea of Stars, Indivisible, Astria Ascending, Cross Code and a game call (something Cris or Cristalis, forgot its name) could make a worthy remake if given the tools and help, in my opinion.

Why are some of these weird? None are a guarantee to make them weird.

it's weird until you remember nintendo hates (more) money
Is more a case of Nintendo having limited resources imo that is also why they dont make such a big push for GaaS when they have multiple franchises perfect for it. Some cases is just ‘Nintendo being Nintendo’ but most is a resources thing

Resources really boil down to money you can or want to spend.

And Nintendo is spending a lot recently as they have shown expanding all their studios and increasing the average budget of their games, but doing so too quickly would be an awful idea I think the output of Nintendo considering the circumstances is pretty good .

Those are great but really necessary long term investments. It's still no secret that for being the most successful game software company, Nintendo is still a very conservative company when it comes to expenditures.

Sushi Striker was right there (and it was fantastic, too) but sadly not enough people bothered to buy it…

Also Tetris 99 exists for Nintendo Tetris, even if it’s not quite on the level of Tetris DS.

At this point, a sequel for RFA feels more likely, especially since it sold extremely well. We know that some staff also worked on Switch Sports, but there are still quite a few absences.

GBG felt like a way to salvage the most interesting part of Labo. I don't think it was ever meant to receive significant support.

I would also expect any puzzle games to be co-developed by companies like Arika or IS. We still don't know what Ryuichi Nakada has been up to since Super Mario Bros. 35. Same with Tomoko Nakayama and Buddy Mission BOND.

Sushi Striker is a weird one. It was clearly made for the 3DS but got caught in a bad release window. It probably would have fared better earlier in the previous generation. It's also one of the few EPD games where the story/world was conceived first, with the actual gameplay being designed later by indieszero. At least the companies still seem to have a good relationship.

Some interesting tidbits for Battle League on the Nintendo side:

  • Akiya Sakamoto, who has been involved with all previous NLG Nintendo games, is not credited at all.
  • Risa Tabata is credited as a Project Manager for the first(?) time. She's usually listed as either an Assistant Producer or Coordinator. I believe this is also the first NLG project she's worked on.
  • Masakazu Miyazaki is listed as the other Project Manager. He's primarily worked on external projects and even worked at NoA for a while. It's unknown whether he's with EPD 6 now or works with multiple groups like Keisuke Terasaki.
  • Yoshihito Ikebata is the game's Co-Producer. He's worked with NLG as a Supervisor since LM2.
  • Masashi Okamoto was in charge of Coordination. I think this was his first NLG project too. LM3 Coordinator Takafumi Iwai is not credited.

I completely forgot about Tetris 99 (and Sushi Striker). That absolutely checks the box for Nintendo Tetris (retail and digital).

What's weirder is that we have no successor to Tomadachi Life on Switch, or even a port. It sold 6.69 million units on the 3DS, just imagine what it can do on Switch with how much of a target audience Animal Crossing brought into the platform userbase

This is absolutely coming sooner or later, or I’d hope so at least. We got Miitopia on Switch, after all. The only thing that worries me as a potential reason for why they may not continue the Tomodachi franchise on Switch is if they’re afraid, for whatever reason, to fully commit to making all areas of the game totally inclusive regardless of a Mii’s gender, as they’ve promised to do if the series continues… Like, they did it with Miitopia (only wish they would have avoided using gendered pronouns as well…), but then the “relationships” in that game are more vague and don’t include stuff like marriage and having children together, so I worry that Nintendo might potentially be avoiding going back to Tomodachi Life for that reason… Not that they should be avoiding it, of course, but also with gay marriage still not being legal in many regions (including Japan…) and LGBTQ+ issues becoming increasingly under attack as of late…I just worry Nintendo may be afraid to go there. =/
