Camelot doing good with those Mario sports contracts.
The only reason to expand would be to either provide more long term support for their sports titles or create a sports mix that needs multiple teams. They really need to expand at this point. Unless the owners don't want it to expand.
Camelot still holds have the rights to the game. so things will have to be ran by them as wellI believe Emily mentioned that Nintendo still has faith in Golden Sun and might want to hire other studios to work on the property just like they did with Advance Wars and Wayforward.
Their faith in Camelot is more in doubt now.
Yikes that Color Splash cratering. The Wii U really was a graveyard for IPs in its later years. Some Sales context on Mario Sports x Mario RPG
Blue = Golf ; Yellow = Tennis; Green = Strikers; Orange = Baseball; Grey = Other
Titles marked with * lack official sales numbers
Blue = Paper Mario ; Yellow = Mario & Luigi
Titles marked with * lack official sales numbers
What other Mario sports games could they be making?I still think Camelot would be able to simply remake GS1&2. I don't think they will, I think they're going to be at the Mario sports cycle until and unless they either expand or shut down, but I think they could.
Though as it stands now I agree with Emily that it's probably going to have to be Nintendo finding someone else to work on GS. I wish they would, already.
None. That’s it for their sports titles. They’re probably making something new. What other Mario sports games could they be making?
I hope so. I'd prefer Golden Sun, myself.None. That’s it for their sports titles. They’re probably making something new.
i wonder what they could make, something that could be made by those 30s people lolNone. That’s it for their sports titles. They’re probably making something new.
It’s probably gonna be another sports titleNone. That’s it for their sports titles. They’re probably making something new.
My faith in them making a GS is so low that even if the next piece of hardware is an upgrade of the current one and thus doesn't necessitate the next round of Tennis and Golf, I'd see them trying a new sport over returning to the IP.What other Mario sports games could they be making?
Mario Hockey would be coolIt’s probably gonna be another sports title
Mario Jockey is what we needMario Hockey would be cool
Mario Table Tennis for the chinese marketI am not sure they are working on another sports title. The others were made by Namco and Square, Baseball and Basketball respectively. Any other sport is not as popular as tennis, golf and soccer/futbol.
Dang. Isn't that sport included in the Sonic & Mario Olympic games?Mario Table Tennis for the chinese market
Hell, why not let Gust have a crack at Golden Sun after they finish a certain leaked game?
What other Mario sports games could they be making?
I don't think Golden Sun would be exempt from the Switch effect, especially since the system has such a viable ecosystem for RPGs, wherein even new IPs can break past the million mark, which GS has also done in the past, more than once. Why not light a large pile of money on fire while they're at it?
Yes but there was no S&M Winter Olympics for unknown reasons this year (in 2018 it was because Ubisoft had exclusive license).Dang. Isn't that sport included in the Sonic & Mario Olympic games?
Horse game is exactly that right now for Nintendo lol, also Gust games are on a budget always the most successful ones sell 500k ish Nintendo can give them a higher budget than usual and still break even if they dont sell even one million. Why not light a large pile of money on fire while they're at it?

Did better than Advance Wars ever did.

Hmm... it's true that Yakuman DS had a Mario theme, but I think fans of the series would rather see the return of the iconic Yakuman cast: Yakuman, Yakumam, Yakumiss, Dr. Yaku, Yakuinfant and Evil Yakuman.Yakuman Tenpai
If only Nintendo had a turn-based JRPG franchise. Not just the biggest JRPG franchise, not just the biggest video game franchise, but the highest-grossing media property in the world...Golden Sun should be Nintendo's classic Turn-Based JRPG franchise
Pokemon is a thing on its own.If only Nintendo had a turn-based JRPG franchise. Not just the biggest JRPG franchise, not just the biggest video game franchise, but the highest-grossing media property in the world...
Idk if they want to take the risk on a new one. Because now that’s a whole different ball game compared to remaking old games. Camelot can’t do it. They would need to find someone else and hope it sells well enoughGolden Sun should be Nintendo's classic Turn-Based JRPG franchise, they should market it that way. Hopefully Emily's comments about it materialize into something.
Yes, which is pretty much what Emily said.Idk if they want to take the risk on a new one. Because now that’s a whole different ball game compared to remaking old games. Camelot can’t do it. They would need to find someone else and hope it sells well enough
They use Team Asano games that they publish for that purpose, but they dont own any active 2D RPG series. Are there any current 2D RPG that Nintendo owns? Nothing comes to mind. I feel like Golden Sun perfectly fills that niche. Not everything needs to transition to 3D.
You've added a few of adjectives that weren't present in the original post which would indeed inflate the costs.I'm not convinced that creating a massive, fully 3D Golden Sun game would be worth the cost at all.

Why would you tap on modern Gust's shoulder to make a top-down 2D game? You've added a few of adjectives that weren't present in the original post which would indeed inflate the costs.
I feel like the logical transition for Golden Sun should be 3D though. The original GBA games had a style that resembled 3D graphics and Dark Dawn went even further with that. A sequel that had a big enough world to explore (not Xenoblade big but at least Dragon Quest big) should be ideal. Are there any current 2D RPG that Nintendo owns? Nothing comes to mind. From previous conversations one of the brothers mentioned wanting to return to the series and only needed to see that there is demand. My faith in them making a GS is so low that even if the next piece of hardware is an upgrade of the current one and thus doesn't necessitate the next round of Tennis and Golf, I'd see them trying a new sport over returning to the IP.
They may also try something small apart from Nintendo like Good-Feel, Game Freak and HAL do from time to time.
I would love to be wrong, though.
You’re comparing apples to oranges. Astral Chain and Golden Sun are different types of business moves.Nintendo has no issues financing 3D RPGs that are not expected to sell more than 1M (Astral Chain), sales are not the problem when it comes to Golden Sun, lack of a trusted dev team is.
If those are the first steps to gauge the viability of the series, then sure. Well not the 2D part, but the rest.So you would want Gust to develop a small scale, 2D Golden Sun?
Because it's clearly not something that would require the entire studio to accomplish, and yet it's a dev that is familiar with RPGs, has multiple teams making smaller-budget games, and now with some Nintendo collaboration behind them. I'm not saying it would have to be Gust, like they're the only ones capable or the obvious choice. Why would you tap on modern Gust's shoulder to make a top-down 2D game?
Two; Tomato Adventure by Alpha Dream (more or less became Mario & Luigi right after), and Magical Vacation by Brownie Brown (it got a sequel on DS called Magical Starsign). Are there any current 2D RPG that Nintendo owns? Yeah, that statement must be a decade old by now, though. Don't get me wrong, it's certainly better late than never, but at this point the only way I'll believe in Camelot making a GS is if I see it. On the other hand, these days I can more readily believe some other dev would be handed the reins to at least try a remake. From previous conversations one of the brothers mentioned wanting to return to the series and only needed to see that there is demand.

But they're also not going to be the most expensive studio to work with, but they have small capable teams, which is probably what Nintendo would want with an unsure property. It's not going to be 2D though obviously, I didn't say that. It's just not going to be some massive open world either.

My guess is Nintendo gets WayForward to remake Golden Sun 1 and 2 the same way they did Advance Wars, and Camelot can help.
Either that or Nintendo gets Camelot to do a new Mario Sports Mix with Camelot making one or two minigames having other support studios like 1-Up or Bandai Namco do other games for the same package.
