Okay, just to keep track of all the games coming out this year that I need:

June
28 - Portal Collection

July
22- Live A Live
29 - Digimon Survive
29 - Xenoblade Chronicles 3

September
9 - Splatoon 3

October
6 - NieR: Automata
20 - Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
21 - Persona 5 Royal

November
18 - Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

And that's without a first party Nintendo Direct...

Uh... that's a bit confusing. I can't remember any specific game of theirs where you have cover mechanics like that. I feel like the whole light/shadow discussion in the spec might mean it's referring to a new Luigi's Mansion? But it doesn't seem to have any NLG inventors, so I dunno.

Interesting find.
Someone who visits this thread probably knows. If not we might have found something new. The sneaky aspects reminds me of WW, that’s definitely not it though.

For reference, this is from the patent @Awesomegames23 found:

The interesting thing to note here is that this was actually granted, it's not just an application.

EDIT: Oh it was previously published as an application back in March, I'm surprised I hadn't heard of it yet. It was filed in Japan in 2020.

They're reallly not that weird. It's a DQ game and even on a bad week Switch is still outselling PS5 5:1 in Japan which is the main demographic for that franchise. An exclusivity deal on that game is a no-brainer.

well then this just them look even weirder when you consider the fact that dqx offline has a marketing deal with sony in japan

Maybe it was me. I'm out opening manholes today. Currently on lunch break.
Unless you take your lunch break at 9 AM and travelled across the country last night, doubt it was you. But have to say I was excited to see the gentleman using a pry bar and not his bare hands.

If it’s no trouble, would you mind listing the inventors? Might make it easier to narrow it down.

Here's the google patents page for the March publication-

Sure, it's Shinya Hiratake and Katsuyasu Ando.
Ah, that explains it. This was for Bowser’s Fury most likely.

Holy, ahem, shit.

A very interesting partner showcase, probably the strongest one to date. I also agree that it felt like an E3 direct just without the first party announcements. Some interesting titles but nothing I am dying to get (except for Sunbreak). I do wonder why is Nintendo keeping their first party plan to themselves? Usually we get a "here is what the second half of the year has in store" around this time?

Not gonna lie, I'm getting a bit sick of people insisting that the Switch 2 is coming soon when everything is pointing to that not being the case. We're getting a bunch of big titles this year with DLC planned for next year (and 2024 for M+R2!). That wouldn't happen if Nintendo was trying to move on. BOTW2 and Bayonetta 3 aren't getting pushed out of the Switch lineup. Maybe MP4 but that's years away. We'll get a new Switch model (probably 4K) in the next six months then nothing else for two to four years.

Switch "2" isn't a thing.

A more powerful Switch is likely coming soon though, based on a rapidly growing pile of evidence.

Maybe, but that'll be a Switch Pro with hardly any exclusives and nothing will be held back for that hardware.
Who's talking about anything being held out? I guess I didn't realize that was the main thing you were saying in your post.

Yeah, no games currently announced for Switch are getting pushed to their next console, that's not how it works. They may get enhanced versions though.

It really is funny that people believe this is the last year for Switch. Maybe the current model will be done but not Switch 2 replacing it. Splatoon 3 is proof. Why release it now and not at Switch 2 launch if it's so close? You can argue backwards compatibility but this is Nintendo nothing is guaranteed.

So, the Partner Direct was really good and I honestly feel not making it a General Direct was a good idea. You know when you watch an Indie World and you just pay attention to every game because you're not in "when's the Zelda trailer coming?!" mode? I felt that today and really enjoyed the presentation, a lot of the games seem pretty cool.

It helps that they had a much better selection of games than in most 2020 Partner Directs as well.

I mostly try to tune out Switch Pro/2 talk. The discussion in the future hardware thread seems mostly interesting albeit too complicated for me to follow too closely. Outside of it, though? Mostly nonsense.

Reasons why I think the official next generation start isn't until 2024 (if it is a thing at all)

-Mario Kart 8 DLC through the end of 2023
-Splatoon 3, a multiplayer game with post launch support, is launching this September
-No leaks seem to be pointing to any radical changes coming in future hardware.

I believe that we are getting a stronger Switch sometime in the next nine months, but it won't be a Switch 2.

If a new Switch comes, I will buy it. But until then, the OLED is my favorite handheld.

I guess this is why some people put more stock in the "revision vs successor" argument than I do - they see "successor" as something that has exclusives immediately. I just don't see that happening for the upcoming model. My assumption is that it releases this year (or early next), and every game is available on both systems for at least a year or two (I'm leaning more towards two), then we finally start seeing "only available on X model" titles starting to appear. Eventually, it will be treated as a full-blown successor, but not anytime soon.

I mostly agree, but I do definitely see third parties having games exclusive to the upgraded model probably on launch day.

Is it just me or did the muddying of Sonic Frontiers visuals on switch oddly help? It looks worse by every objective metric, but it feels less like Sonic has been copied and pasted into a different game, the fuzziness on all the models makes them feel like they're all in the same world.

Along with the 4K Switch, I'd also like to see a Switch Lite with the current build that also connects to the TV. I barely use my Switch in handheld mode because it feels so heavy.

Sadly I don't see that happening. The business reason for the Lite to exist is to offer a lower entry point with lower value, and ideally eventually drive the user to upgrade to a more expensive model. Them adding docking to the Lite would render the OG model kinda useless and undercut their hardware revenue substantially.

It’s wild that Square Enix will put a gazillion low-to-mid-budget games on Switch but not make a single new Crystal Chronicles game just to spite me personally.

With the Partner Direct over... now what's there to talk about?
Me bashing my head against my keyboard trying to figure out how to generate an excel/sheets spreadsheet of inventory equipment each having like 15 different properties.

Oh yeah, where was Batman? Kind of shocked that wasn’t there if it’s real.
None of the miracle games were there. Kingdom Come, Hogwarts Legacy, Midnight Suns, Remnant, Humankind... Makes me think if Nintendo saving them for a special occasion. You know, to showcase a more powerful hardware.
