RE: Hardware thread, just had a quick look but is someone suggesting a hardware reveal next month?

I do wonder what we don't know yet for this year coming to Switch, where they could surprise us.

Also historically Minis have never been super exciting, not only less stuff shown but also lower tier announcements.

I guess it would be their chance for a Wind Waker HD port.
It’s hardly a packed year. They usually put out about 20-25 games which we aren’t close to. The most unusual part is mainly that we know a lot of the heavy hitters / pillars up front and even have dates for them.

July Live A Live, Xenoblade 3
August
September Splatoon 3
October
November Pokemon SV
December

Floating - Bayonetta 3, Mario and Rabbids 2, Advance Wars

Rumored - Metroid Prime HD, Fire Emblem, Everybody 1-2 Switch, Goldeneye.

We barely have much info on Bayonetta 3 and Mario and Rabbids to begin with so those could be big focuses of a presentation. Typically too, a lot of the smaller games don’t get leaked ahead of time so there’s certainly room for more beyond the rumored games. Updates/DLC are usually a given as well.

It’s certainly possible they could put on a decent show. Maybe it is being split because new hardware is closer than I thought it would be. I don’t think it would be the best move, but we’ll see soon I guess.

Imagine if after all this doom and gloom Nintendo will announce a normal general direct with infos of BotW2 in it, a dream.
I do think this would be the funniest / best outcome after all of the blood, sweat, and tears spilled here. I’m positive they have the games / announcements for it.

It'd be interesting to check those 20-25 in 2018 and 2020 cause i don't think we were even close to those numbers then.

As for the rest, if you slot those floating titles in those 3 empty months, you have at least one big release every month which i think is the goal here from Nintendo. Mario + Rabbids 2 is basically going to have a dedicated Direct basically, we'll see the other two.

I don't know i might be pessimistic cause with the whole no E3 this year, i came in already expecting Nintendo to skip June entirely and so far it is going as planned. I wonder if insiders will ever reflect on that when they cheer for the death of E3 (hi Jeff Grubb!), Nintendo's June efforts were always because of E3, Treehouse Live exists exclusively because of that.

A scenario where E3 doesn't exist anymore, you'll have to get accustomed to more years like this which to me it kinda sucks.

I don’t have them myself, but some people on here have charts showing the software output each year. Not all of it is interesting to everybody, but that’s where the numbers come from. I want to say even 2020 didn’t do that badly, but it’s a year you shouldn’t judge any company against.

I loved E3s of the past, the set dates and concentrated hype was nice, but parts of those shows will never return even if E3 itself does. We get less games by the bigger publishers and spreading them out gives all of them more time to shine. With a few great exceptions, I think we just had a generally less inspiring selection of games and announcements so far this year. I’m still hoping we get a bigger show from Nintendo, but if that big show comes a month or two later and we have a steady release of good games in the mean time (June was amazing and July looks great), I’m not going to care as much once we are past this annoying/awful uncertain period we are in. We might have our answers in as little as five hours.

I really hope it’s a proper Direct as a mini or parter showcase means they probably haven’t got a big 1st party holiday release (again) and I have nothing to play for the rest of the year after Splatoon 3.

Past partners have been called Direct Mini.

What if the upcoming one is a Direct (not mini) Partners showcase ?

Frankly given the game potentially shown there, the speculation on the branding is moot.

Nintendo is going to try and jazz it up with a new name probably.

I just think the Mini branding is used since hey it's a Mini which means not 30 minutes or more long, yes there are other things but the length is the probably the biggest one.

RE: Hardware thread, just had a quick look but is someone suggesting a hardware reveal next month?
Splatoon 3 themed OLED, it's pretty much a given and Nintend'Alerts have been dropping a lot of stuff hinting to that. Probably announced during a Splatoon 3 Direct

Could be renamed to something like ‘Nintendo Direct Partner Spotlight’

I wonder how devs feel about being apart of these style Directs when they see people online basically shitting all over them?

Oh so not an actual new console but a new design on the current OLED
It's only an educated guess, I've only heard "new hardware soon", but given the Nintend'Alerts clues and the chinese forum leak, I wouldn't expect more than just new colours

Again asking this, why is everyone talking about a mini or partner direct? Is there any proof that it might not be a normal direct?
There is no "proof", there never is until Nintendo says so. But there are some people/insiders who are suggesting that it will be a partner/mini or at least third party focused direct.

Here is an update on the insider gossip list I posted a few days ago:

  • Nate says a Direct is coming
  • Grubb says Nintendo is doing a bunch of different showcases in the coming month
  • Pierce says 29th, Nates says 28/29th
  • Xeno 3 direct happens - edit: A 4chan post that correctly predicted the exact time (direct + announcement) and length of X3 Direct says a X3 story trailer is coming in a Direct next week. Nintendo later names X3 trailer "teaser"
  • Tom Henderson says something is happening, but maybe not a direct - edit: Later clarifies that a mini partner is coming per VGC, and M&R2 is the something he was alluding to
  • Nate confirms we are getting details about M&R2 next week. Is unsure about Bayo 3
  • Piers is flying out a work from home member to discuss a Direct next week
  • Nacho Requena states he is hearing a direct focused on third parties is coming. Persona game will be present. Four year old game coming to Switch.
  • Eurogamer, VGC, Tom, and Nate further collaborate that they are hearing the Direct is now a Mini Partner

Make your own judgement. Thankfully we should be less than 24 hours away from knowing the true answer!

Announcement tweet will probably say something like 'Tune in to a Nintendo Direct Mini, focusing on 3rd party games coming to the Switch in 2022'. I think they will just call it a mini because the partner showcase branding is a bit toxic and they must know that.

It still makes little sense to me to not just do a Mini now. You can have all your partners announcements and add a few more Nintendo announcements (Mario kart dlc, WWHD, other dlc, etc). Especially, if what Nintendo has coming the rest of the year is smaller game announcements. Plus, the Mini brand is way better than the Partners brand.

If it's a Mini, hope someone at Pokémon Company taught them how to use the YouTube Premiere feature, so that we don't have people spoiling the one more thing to others

We will now in a few hours. Imagine if at 23:00 JST, General will be announced. That would be some groundbreaking moment.

The thing is, I have been disappointed by nintendo for the past year.. I have been hoping on anything Zelda (WW/TP HD for switch, OoT Hd for switch, anything good about BotW 2) and this direct seems to be the perfect moment for some BotW 2 gameplay. And tbh, if we get a partner or mini direct announcement, I won't even watch it.

An interesting tidbit is that the Japanese Splatoon twitter has been posting previews at 11 am CEST every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the last 2 months or so, but today they only tweeted about the results from a league battle competition (which hasn't prevented news tidbits in the past)

Edit: damnit beaten by like 20 seconds

Edit 2: they just posted

Thanks for this. I was honestly not able to keep up with who said what and when anymore lol.

Direct Mini Partner though. Next up is Nintendo Direct Ultra Mega Evolution Macro Partner Spotlight Showcase and Knuckles feat. Dante of the Devil May Cry Series? 🥴😂

In all seriousness though, the information is so over the place that at this point anything can happen - or nothing at all.
