There's already the PSP version as well as a port of that to mobile devices. I'm sure a port of Tactics into modern systems isn't that much of an effort.

Triangle Strategy's story has been fine so far but I think the acting and character interactions carry it through. While I wish the side characters were more integrated into the plot, the core house members play an active role in the cutscenes throughout. FFT has a more epic storyline no doubt but character's become basically non-existent once they join Ramza's party. "I shall join your army Ramza but after this day, I shall never speak again!". The main thing I'm missing from FFT is the job system. I still don't think any has matched the quality and flexibility of FFT's job system.
Triangle Strategy's story so far is fine (I'm on Chapter 9), but it's been pretty... safe, I guess? Fairly predictable, and nothing's really happened yet that kicked it up a few notches. I'd rank it as medium but well-executed, so far. But I'm not the biggest fan of political stories, or at least stories where the politics and intrigue is the main driving factor. Final Fantasy Tactics has tons of politics in it as well, but what really separates it in my book is the added wrinkle of the supernatural demonic stones, ancient hidden secrets, and how the stones/gods/high fantasy elements mesh along with the backstabby politics. Adding in more magic, ancient evils, gods, demons, or in general just making the events more batshit and having more crazy plot twists is what I love in stories.

And I agree 1000% about Final Fantasy Tactics. It remains the prime example of customization and party building in a tactics game, at least to me. FETH goes some of the way there by letting you choose the development path of everyone, but the sheer amount of options, classes, and cool stuff you can do in FFT hasn't been beaten to this day. Plus it's just so incredibly addicting.

From the trailer it seems that they'll try to make the soundtrack more like God Shattering Star and I'm all for it.
It really says something about the OST when God Shattering Star is as good as it is and yet it's like my 4th or 5th favorite map theme. And yeah, as someone who's not really interested in Three Hopes, I'm at the very least really looking forward to seeing what they do with the music

The HD-2D games have been more grounded compared to their Final Fantasy counterparts. They of course still have fantastical stuff like magic and strange creatures, but they are not at the forefront of the story.

If Triangle Strategy gets another game, I do hope they dive into the job system. It's not like Asano is a stranger to it. The Bravely Default series is basically Final Fantasy III or V. The job system alone made me enjoy BD II more than Octopath Traveler. If they added in the job system and fleshed out the side activities, I think a Triangle Strategy sequel could easily rival FF Tactics.

Age of Calamity had a banger soundtrack so I'm excited to see what Three Hopes does with its source material

The saddest thing about Rayman's absence is that he was once Ubisoft's poster boy. Their first big hit IP. Whereas mostly all of Ubisoft's biggest franchises have been milked fucking dry, the Rayman series has stood the test of time with each game having there own distinct feel without ever losing their spark. The series only has 5 mainline titles, and I argue the series rivals Nintendo in terms of quality platforming.

Now, he's fucking neglected. I want to go off on Ubisoft's BS surrounding Rayman, but it's honestly nothing compared to the shit their employees have to go through with all the sexual and violent harassment surrounding this awful fucking company. It's at the point where I don't give a shit if they make a new Rayman or not. Until they get their shit together, they are not getting a damn dime from me. As much as it would pain me not to support Rayman day one, this is a much more important issue that desperately needs to be addressed.
Lmao I thought this was the folders thread for a second and you were comparing Folders finally coming to Rayman finally getting revived and was very here for it

Unfortunately I haven’t played RF5 yet so I can’t comment on it, but RF4 (and RF3!) have polished the farm-sim, fantasy-RPG, social-sim gameplay blend to a fine sheen. The major drawback is the 3DS-level graphics, but if you’re cool with that…
Honestly, I am. I kinda like how some 3DS games look

Once, Nate posted about knowing the marketing related to the next mainline Fire Emblem game. He talked about 'a fairly meaningful marketing plan attached to it'.
Could this suggest that Nintendo will go BIG, like with an anime or something?

For emblem heroes crossover events…

Incredibly excited for 13 Sentinels.
From everything I've seen and heard of it, it seems like one of those games that's a real "experience" in that it transports you to a unique world and takes you on an emotional journey.

It's the sort of game wouldn't usually be into (not really a fan of RTS or visual novel type gameplay generally) yet so much about it really appeals to me.

For me, the magic of gaming is its ability to give us experiences beyond what is possible in real life, and this game looks like an adventure well worth taking.

I just redeemed my points for the new batch of Mario odyssey icons. I have 79 total. Did I miss one?! Having such an odd number seems like I did but maybe the first set only had 4 of one of the frames or something.

Considering what we heard just from the trailer, I’m gonna got out on a limb and say it will be great.

Speaking of which Triangle Strategy has an amazing soundtrack.

Edit: @Amadeus I don’t think it would be an anime since when was the last, or first(?), time Nintendo has done that for a series. My guess is the marketing will probably be more integrated & grand combining certain aspects like a concert, bringing back the con, Heroes, and perhaps a fancy commercial that can be split up.

It's true that Nintendo never used the anime medium to promote anything, unfortunately.
Fire Emblem seems like the one of Nintendo's series that could benefit the most of it.
With Square Enix doing it with TWEWY and Nier, I expect more publishers (and maybe one day Nintendo) to do the same.

That’s what it was for me, all the things you said plus it has an amazing 80s-Japan vibe around it that made it fun to live in that world. And it really is an experience, my brain was on overdrive piecing things together start to finish

Yeah, no Nintendo IP has ever been promoted through an anime before. Never. Imagine if there was a long running games that had new releases every few years, generations you might say, and with each new season, there was an anime series that aired concurrently with the games. Imagine the marketing synergy. Pair those up with maybe a trading card game, toys, and a bunch of other merch and you might have a several billion dollar franchise on your hands.

Out of curiosity: is there an officially accepted onomatopoeia for the Kirby suck sound?

sorta like...

Fun Switch related story from this weekend

I bought an iPad Pro and thought I was stepping outside my comfort zone and the norm getting a white keyboard and Space Gray body.

Then I got home and realized it perfectly matches my Series S and OLED Switch - Black and White lol. Including the White Leather Mat I have on my desk with a Space Gray MacBook Pro and Black monitor….

Whoops

I'm not sure whether my disgust over the idea of noodle sandwiches is stronger than my desire to figure out what the hell this means

It is a real world food item and I'm not talking about the ramen spam sandwich. That one just replaces the bread with ramen noodles. I'm talking about actual noodles in between bread. Carbs within carbs.

Kirby talk always reminds me of this one time a co-worker went on a bizarre rant regarding Bandana Waddle Dee (around the time Kirby Star Allies was announced). He thought it was the stupidest character name he had ever heard, and so I listed all the stupid character names in other games he didn't seem to have a problem with. It was the most hilarious thing ever and to this day I can't believe someone would get so worked up over a character like Bandana Waddle Dee.

For anyone that might be playing 13 Sentinels for the first time, you have to ask yourself, does the thought of noodles inside a sandwich sound appealing to you?
Depends: does macaroni count as noodles and do burgers count as sandwiches?
Because I actually did this a couple weeks ago:

and it was good

edit: wrong thread whoops
Noooooo, this is the right thread, come back!

It looks as though I might actually manage to acquire one of these fancy devices all the cool kids here refer to as a "Switch," specifically of the OLED variety.

I recall there's a thin film atop the screen, meant to hold it together should it shatter, but which lacks hardness. Is there a concensus these days as to screen protectors for this?

Or anything else that really should be done for it?

I believe my acquiring of such a device might be the final step in a conjuring ritual for some form of new hardware. You will all be able to thank me for my sacrifice.

The fan on my Erista made a noise today that it's never made before, which might've also been part of that ritual. Please don't say "sacrifice." 😅

(also yes the OLED needs a screen protector, as the anti-shatter film is scratchable)

Los Angeles and Yosemite, In N Out, roller coasters, and Kirby this week. For the first time in a long while, life is good.

I’ve never had it or really thought about it before, but simply playing 13 Sentinels has put yakisoba pan at the top of my “I’m going to try this one day” list.

That said, noodles in a sandwich isn’t THAT weird, it’s not that different than just having a bunch of bread with pasta. Or a calzone. And I have actually tried mac and cheese in a sub before. Don’t ask; weird local place that has a menu full of “everything but the kitchen sink” subs, basically all fat and carbs.

I'm probably wrong, but I see the addition of folders as a confirmation that we'll get a Switch 2 or Pro. You don't bother updating an OS five years in if you won't use it for many years to come.

Also, now that we have folders, I think we can all agree on the fact that the Switch has the absolute best OS on the market, and arguably ever. Clean, simple, doesn't bother you with useless shit. Perfection.

Finally folders!
The Switch OS is a nice contrast to the slow and overloaded stuff on other consoles, but the lack of folders bothered me.
I just wished folders would show up on the Homescreen as well.
