I’m living in Mario Kart. I’m okay with this.

oh wait, is this true for the 3DS too? if so I’m fucked — can’t add money to it since I’m not in the region where I originally bought it.

early RIPmas to meeee
3DS stuff can still be purchased via the web store. Although not sure about the WiiWare titles. DLC obviously is all done in-game unfortunately.

tbh going back to my wii u or 3DS and buying stuff is a romantic idea but at the same time I picked up my n3DSXL yesterday and said to myself "gotta be honest, i'm not gonna play anything on this" and put it down without buying anything lol
Yeah I’m content with the hefty library I have already. I’d rather not add on more I may never play with how much dense stuff I already have on there. May type up a list of my digital collection in the next day or so tho

It's pretty funny seeing so much outrage over the Wii U eShop shutting down coming from many who would never touch the system with a 10-foot pole.

the situation still sucks, obviously

i was thinking recently and asked myself “what happened to EA?” I remember at mid 2020 when they promised delivering 7 games to Switch in one year and they made it, with even some impressive ports like Plants vs Zombies 3 or Apex Leagends.

So I was expecting the period of mid 2021 to now to be more or less the same, but correct me if I’ wrong, they didn’t released anything aside from the annual FIFA. No Sims, No Mass Effect, No Dragon Age, No Battlefield, No Madden….

And their games have sold pretty well, Burnout, Need for Speed and PvZ they all were in the eShop top 10 during their launch (and they always re-enter whenever there's a sale).

If I'm not mistaken Grubb said he expected the support to continue after those 7 games. Probably Mass Effect, but this is a pack of whole 3 games, I expect the porting to take some serious time.
Living in WarioWare. Perfect.
Wanna trade with mine? I have the vast fields of Hyrule.

I feel like 90% of the backlash is about the 3DS shop.

I'd take remakes/remasters of a great many 3DS games adapted to regular single-screen controls...
SO I've been thinking about this

What if they didn't need to adapt anything?

What if they put Nintendo DS/3DS games on NSO and sold this to subscribers

dswitch.jpg

Or sold this and was like "3DS games are now available for purchase on Nintendo Switch eShop. Existing 3DS digital purchases will be able to be redownloaded at no additional cost"

Yeah, this would probably make the most sense.

But who wants to play games like this 👀

That's monstrous... I love it
I don't know if the bluetooth on the Switch would have enough bandwidth to send a Nintendo DS-resolution video signal at 60 fps along with touch input commands? but hey, they've made crazier things work
Yeah, this would probably make the most sense.

me

Honestly it'd be the only real "one size fits all" solution to DS/3DS emulation. If we/Nintendo wants the Switch to be the everything console, they're gonna need a universal solution like this ahaha

If they could beam games directly into your brain then we could finally get a proper Kid Icarus Uprising port.

I had a good time with the system. I’ve also maybe pulled it out a dozen times since I got a switch. Which is why I’m not in a rush to randomly pull it out to buy stuff. I mean I wouldn’t mind grabbing ogre battle 64 but that’s about it.

As cool as it would be to have the bottom screen in hand for games that just used it for menus and maps and such, I'd worry about games like Sonic Rush that had the action moving instantly from top screen to bottom and back. 😅

I think there would need to be "all-on-one-screen" options for games that have that sort of both-screens continuity, but the add-on I was pitching would work for games where the action on each screen is separate like Elite Beat Agents, for example:

Yeah, this would be used in docked/tabletop mode to emulate the bottom touch screen.

Yeah, this is definitely the kind of solution that would would work pretty great for people other than me! I loved the DS and 3DS (still do for the former) but I wouldn't mind never having to play with two screens again.

Hey folks! Sorry, I know we already have a site notification about GoTY voting so hopefully I'm not being too intrusive or annoying anyone but I just wanted to say today is the last day for voting! So if you want your favourite game to win or just want to participate in our first ever awards, now is the time 🙂

Hrmm I'm not sure there's a market for this! I'd rather just play the games on my existing 3DS than pay for another piece of hardware and attach it to the Switch.

This is a nice solution to keep 3DS alive, but Nintendo closing the eShop down suggests they don't want to do that...

Speaking of, my next backlog clear is Sonic Rush Adventure. Like the ideas but have to say, not a fan of having to replay levels over and over to get materials.

I think this would serve a double purpose: keep 3DS games alive in a meaningful way, and also allow for Nintendo DS games to be brought to the Nintendo Switch Online service.

While people are upset that Wii U store is closing I can only look at my Wii U that decided to die on me not too long ago and is now unplayable but also unrepairable since no one does Wii U repairs where I live. OH WELL.

Is that the one with pirates? I vaguely remember it but not to a degree that I should if I'd played it. I think I might have skipped it. I actually can't quite remember. 😳

anyone else notice Switch Sports has "has in-game purchases" on it's eShop listing?

they gonna sell more sports down the road?
According to dataminers you get additional items if you're subscribed to NSO (or the expansion pack?), wouldn't surprise me if they have long-term plans for it (provided it does well)

Probably (hopefully?) just cosmetic stuff for your Sportsmiites.

I don't like the sound of that at all. It's not the pay-to-win dystopia, but this kind of monetisation is a step in that direction. MTX in a non f2p game on the console. This does not bode well.

Yes. You make ships and then have to draw lines to islands. It’s actually not too bad other than having to replay levels a bunch of times.
