What do you guys think about those "leaks" that were floating around a few weeks ago? Mangs even made a video about them. They're not super dramatic which makes them more believable for me (Except that VA list lol)
Interesting. The game having Dual Strike balance is a good thing. There were some buffs and nerfs in the game that made it the best in the series. Hopefully we'll get Dual Strike CO's as DLC, they had the some of the series best CO powers. Javier and Sasha had super useful CO powers.

I would hope the dual strike CO’s (and units)were unlockable in The war room for multiplayer and special challenges

This game needs a new trailer to gain attention in media. It would be good if they confirm that war room and create-map modes are included or not.

1) There will be partial voice acting for things like CO Powers and certain key lines in the Campaign. Some names listed are Veronica Tyler as Andy, Aaron Hanson as Max, Matthew Mercer as Grit, and Laura Bailey as Colin.

2) In War Room, you’ll have the option to play by AW1 or AW2 rules. AW1 rules disable Super CO Powers and Neotanks. It’s unclear if AW2 COs will have an “AW1” version in Vs Mode.

3) Online Multiplayer will be present, but has yet to tested. Most of the development has gone to fixing bugs for Singleplayer and Local Co-Op.

4) You will be able to create and share custom maps, but will not be able to play them online.

5) The topic of heavy debate, the game is expected to receive some light balance changes. At the very least, Max is nerfed down to his AW2 D2D, and Eagle will work kinda like he does in DS; Lightning Drive will let him command his non-Soldier units again but nerf them, and Lightning Strike will let him command his non-Soldier units and buff his Air Units.

6) There will be three difficulties: Casual, Classic, and Challenging. The AI has also been updated such that it gets more intelligent as the campaigns go on. This may lead to Challenging being even harder than the Advanced Campaign.

7) The CO themes have been remastered. In addition, whenever a CO activates a CO Power, a more upbeat, aggressive version of their theme will play for the turn. The video was unclear if there is a third theme for Super CO Powers.

8) Clone Andy will be his own character. Mechanically he will be the same, but he’ll have blue eyes and Orange Star troops with Blue Skin. He has actual character and he has a unique CO Power animation. You can play him in Vs Mode.

9) Many COs have been redesigned from the Original Trilogy. Sami has been changed to be more like a Commando since launched, Sonja will have glasses and be pretty cocky, Flak will be absurdly muscular, Lash will be a “sexy goth”, Adder will be much scarier, and Sturm will be kinda like AW2 meets Darth Vader. Also Sturm blows smoke out of his mask when he uses his CO Power.
Oh this definitely sounds like what I expected. Except like you said, the VA list.

I'm looking forward to replaying these games, but I'm tentative on the look still. I hope it'll grow on me while I play it.

I'm massively excited for this and love the boxart so much I'm genuinely tempted to swap to a physical copy. I'll have to keep an eye on physical bonuses for UK preorders - if they come with a poster with this art (HINT HINT), I might have to swap from voucher to physical copy.

That'll leave an NSO voucher to use by late April, but whatever.

Sentimental story: Advance Wars is the case of 12 year old me buying a game based entirely on how much I loved the boxart. It just spoke to my brain and I 100% needed to get it. I bought it at a supermarket without realising that the issue of Gamesmaster I was also buying had a review of the game where they awarded it 95%. So this boxart being such a gorgeous reinterpretation of the original art means I need it.
I love that story as it reminded me so much of buying games as a kid just because of the box art. I think my biggest success story was California Games on the Sega Master System.

I preordered from Game Collection when they did one of their discount weekends, but I’m also hoping they do some nice physical bonuses.

SUCH a good boxart. I was planning on replaying the first GBA game when I got my Analogue Pocket, but I think I’ll pick this up instead. I happen to really like the in-game art as well.

I tend to get multiplayer games, and games that I play daily (like AC:NH) digitally, but I’ll definitely get this one physical, if for nothing else than for the box.

CO themes being remastered and getting a more upbeat version when a CO power is activated is already present in the treehouse footage we have (5:42 onward on the treehouse footage, and listen closely to the music). Only worry I have is whether this means we're not getting remixes of the CO and SCO power themes from AW2 onwards.

Other than that, I'd feel surprisingly okay with pretty much all of this. They feel believable enough, too.

I really cannot get past this art style. I hope it sells well however and we get more games/new games in the series.

Hopefully Nintendo starts promoting this game soon. I get right now it is all about Metroid, but hopefully we start getting trailers/new info some time in the next couple of weeks.

Can't say I care for the boxart. It doesn't look as good as the original rendition, and it doesn't acknowledge AW2 in any way.

Does anyone know, or have a guide that details the most efficient way to play through AW1 in order to S rank all the stages with each CO? God, I hope they include a way to view your Campaign ranks without having to be in the middle of a playthrough.

I'm excited for this. I played the original AW on Wii U VC and had a great time going for high ranks and all that. For some reason I never bought the second one so this re-release is excellent for me.

I'm also one of the few that likes the art style.

Just pre-ordered at Best Buy yesterday when I saw the option was available. I never actually played the first two, I only owned the two DS iterations but absolutely loved them. WarGroove scratched the itch a bit, but looking forward to finally experiencing these gems. I trust WayForward's track record to deliver a solid product.

Every so often, I forget that we have this to look forward to. Wargroove didn't manage to scratch that itch.

If someone told me Advance Wars was going to make a resurgence 13 years after the last entry I would have called them a liar. Doesn't even matter to me that this is a remaster of the first two titles since I haven't played those in years and I'm going to love revisiting them.

No kidding. I figured when the 3DS retired that our best chance for another Advance Wars game slipped away. Getting Advance Wars on Switch tells me that just about any Nintendo IP is possible for a revival.

Seriously. Between this and Famicom Detective Club earlier this year, it doesn’t feel like much of anything is off the table like before.

I'm very excited for this, I figured Days of Ruin was the last time I'd ever see a new Advance Wars game. If this does well maybe they'll bring back Battalion Wars as well

I was about to replay advance wars 1 on my phone as I can't be with my switch much this month but those leaked changes make me want to wait for the release on switch. I loved the first advance wars on the gba back in the days. Also days of ruin was amazing. 2 and dual strike i sadly never played.

I’m still not sure if this one’s worth the asking price for me. I’ve never played an Advance Wars game, but I do like Fire Emblem and strategy games in general - should I give it a shot?
It's worth the asking price if they get this right. I spent dozens upon dozens of hours playing each of the first 3 entries. (Days of Ruin never vibes with me, but I'd like to give it another shot.)

What I'm wondering is if the first two entries will be distinct in this or a blend of both? I'm hoping they are distinct with their distinctive CO powers.

I find this hard to answer. If you like turn based strategy in general then yes. The game will have tons of quality content and challenge.

However don't try to compare it to fire emblem. They both are so extremely different in my eyes. If you go in thinking to much about FE you might fast miss all those rpg elements.

2021 has actually been a year of miracles:

- Pokemon Snap gets a sequel after over two decades
- the first two Famicom Detective Club games get internationally released remakes
- a third mainline No More Heroes game releases
- Metroid Dread is a real, critically acclaimed game, the first new mainline Metroid for 11 years and a direct sequel to Fusion after 19 years
- Advance Wars gets rebooted with a remake of the first two games

People begging for F Zero (I want it too, folks), but Nintendo revived Pokemon Snap, Detective Club, 2D Metroid and Advance Wars this year. That's really quite something.

Advance Wars is my all time number one favourite game. The first game is the most perfectly balanced strategy game ever (something they lost a bit with each sequel adding new units) and I already have the game preordered digitally on my Switch. I can't tell you how excited I am for it's release.

I'm just a bit disappointed we didn't get a range of Amiibos with it. I'd spend an absolute fortune on them and then set up my own battles on the dining room table. I'm 42 and engaged but I don't care, I have no shame.

I hope they fix the final mission in AW1, that was so bloody hard. Had to use a walkthrough back in 2001.

There were three games I always hoped would come to Switch: WarioWare, Advance Wars, and Wave Race. Come on Nintendo, just one more, I’d even settle for Wave Race 64.
I can’t begin to imagine how much I’d lose it if a modern Wave Race was announced for Switch.

Well...

"You may see that game again. We have been trying to make many games and that may be one of them … I personally love Wave Race!" - Shinya Takahashi

Seems like a new Wave Race is actually quite likely. Now we just need someone within Nintendo to champion a new F-Zero and/or Sin and Punishment 3.

Please let it be so. The water effects in that game were incredible, and it was so ridiculously fun.

64 will definitely be on NSO we just don’t know when

lol. I know it's obviously coming but I really missed WR64 in Switch Online demo reel for N64.

I really hope so.

I was really surprised it wasn’t one of the launch titles, and I was even more surprised when it wasn’t even included in the coming soon list.
To be fair the latter is a hype list. I mean it doesn’t even have any normal third parties which there’s several dozen we could get. Heck even VC alone has 12 titles that aren’t announced yet. Biggest hint I take from it is a tease that we’re likely back to monthly updates

Monthly updates would be great. I was surprised they didn’t clarify any of that, but I assume all those kind of details will come with the pricing and release date.

Dang that boxart is lit! I legit can't wait i hope it sells enough for the series to be revived! I did my part and got a friend notifiee about it aswell. He loved advance wars when we were teens so i brought it up these remakes were happiming and he immediatly preordered the game haha.

So I was mistaken. Apparently I did have the first Advance Wars. I found my copy when digging through my GBA collection earlier today.

Any love for Battalion Wars? I was never able to actually beat the first one...

Nintendo has been smart with their external studios this gen creating a more balanced release schedule – wayforward + mercury steam carrying the holiday, whodathunk

Advance Wars is without a doubt my favourite Nintendo franchise. While I have replayed these games several times, I will likely buy this if it has a good online service just to enjoy playing more competitively with others and to keep having the series continue.

When is Nintendo going to start promoting the game? Seriously, it needs all the marketing it can get and so far it's gotten none. Please don't send the game to die, I really want AW to be a thing again :(

Now that Metroid Dread is released I think the next game to get a promotional push from Nintendo will be Shin Megami Tensei V since it is the next big, exclusive third-party release and coming out soon. After that I think Nintendo will start pushing Advance Wars.

I think it will be Mario Party, and then Pokemon. Though I'm sure they'll also help market SMTV.

More on topic though, I'm really excited to play these again! Hope we see more of it soon!

Mario Party is next. SMTV will definitely get a big push. Advance Wars is probably something Nintendo has very very low expectations on and wouldn’t want to spend much money on it.

I need some new footage. Really curious to see any improvements from the E3 build.

We’re less than 2 months out from release. Perhaps we see a ramp up in marketing after Mario Party at the end of the month. About a month out was a pattern for a few recent releases.

Yeah... I'm so hyped for it but that they don't show anything does scare me a bit. I really want this game to be a success.
